Our menu brings together a mélange of flavors, textures and contrasts. The menu brings together influences of Jay’s Indian origin and features his mom’s homemade naan recipe made one at a time on a cast iron skillet, Scott’s upbringing around country cooking and our friend Chef Eve’s childhood memories of the spice markets in Jerusalem, growing up around vibrant flavors of Cuban cooking in Miami, and her culinary training in France.

Very unique flavor with Indian spice for the dishes we ordered (lamb shank, vegan explosion). Environment is very quiet and comfortable. Service was outstanding! If you want to try creative cuisine, this is the place!
Wonderful food and atmosphere. They were short handed and service was slow. Management was very apologetic.
Service was awful. It took forever to order and then to get the food and drink. Scott, the manager, kept coming over and apologizing. Server very nice but unavailable. Food was tasty but most dishes had spice and something like sea bass is probably better with a milder seasoning. Still love the duck nachos that Melange had and it is on the current menu.
Fine dining in a laid back atmosphere. One of the best dining experiences Ann Arbor has to offer. Best service I’ve had anywhere. We had the duck nachos, scallops, and sea bass. To say each was unique and delicious would be an understatement.
We had a delightful dinner at dessous. The dining area is very attractive and inviting. The food and cocktails were very good. We appreciated the innovative cuisine. As a new restaurant, it is ironing out its service. GM Scott was attentive and went out of his way to help staff serve us in a more timely way. I definitely plan to return and to inform friends about dessous. If you liked eve and Kerrytown Bistro, here is a new opportunity to have a high-quality dining experience in Ann Arbor.
Wow! What a wonderful experience. The menu was truly inventive with locally sourced ingredients and honoring of the season. The service was outstanding and definitely a place to revisit next time in Ann Arbor
Great to have Eve back in this kind of restaurant setting. The menu is excellent; and the kitchen strong. The service was attentive, but very inexperienced (unsure how to pour wine, salad and main served at same time). Worth a visit!
Incredible food and service in a town already populated with fantastic restaurants. Bold combinations of ingredients produce harmoniously flavorful dishes, with great subtleties. We had the caesar salad, Spanish eggs, lamb, and spaccatelli - all wowed us with perfect flavor and execution. The blood orange mojito is outstanding, as well. I had high hopes for Eve Aronoff's latest venture, and was not disappointed!
We didnt realize it was so beautiful inside, it looked fancy but it felt warm and comfy. Came for a birthday dinner and had melted butter on Naan, and then Avocado Naan, Seabass was incredible, my girlfriend melted when the Lamb voluntarily fell off the shank. Come here, have an amazing time, repeat. Our server, Carissa, was great. Wine list is great, wine storage room is awesome.
Love Eve's food. It was all perfectly cooked, had the right amount of spices and tasted great. Jacob and Scott were also great helping out with our table.
Anna was a great server! She was very personable and friendly. Her recommendations were good for everyone. The food tasted phenomenal.
We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The service was outstanding, making us feel special. The food was amazing!
There were numerous fruit flies in the restaurant. My husband had a fish bone in his lamb dish. The food was good but I have issues with the health safety. Also the service was poor, we had to flag down our waitress anytime we needed anything. We waited 45 minutes to order our food.
A marked improvement from Melange! A thoughtful/interesting menu with lots of vegetarian adjustments. The cocktails were thoughtful and tasty. Our server Anna was super and the GM couldn't have been more attentive and gracious. An excellent option for an upscale but comfortable meal.
The naan bread was good, not a fan of the Indian spice butter. Tomato mozzarella salad was great. Shrimp pasta (w/o peas) was delicious! My husband's two 5oz fillets we're good, but a bit salty on the ends.
I love their fare... excellent choices and always something new and seasonal on the menu. It is really one of my favorite places to eat in Ann Arbor.
Love Eve and what she and her team accomplish. We sat on street during car show, but downstairs looked great, cool and opulent. Shared elevator with the Ark should be mentioned for folks needing assistance with the steep steps.
Wonderful. Delicious. Will come back. Beautiful decor. A little pricey, but worth it.
Excellent food and service. Was not very busy—hope business picks up!!
We were at Dissous on a Monday night and it was very quiet. We all enjoyed our meals including the sea bass both as is on the menu and also "not so hot", the scallops, and the halibut special. The wine list was good and reasonably priced.
Eve hits it out of the park. Delicious creations with an Indian flair. The new decor is upscale, contemporary and inviting.
I really like the couch/pillow arrangement.
Great ambience. Very interesting and high quality food.
Delicious food and swanky ambience. Everything we had was incredible! The duck nachos are a must-try. Our service was fast and wonderful. A hidden gem in Ann Arbor!
Absolutely perfect experience
Really delicious creative dishes and small plates
Perfectly prepared steaks
Wild Caught Salmon
The Avacado Naan is crazy good
I think they have done a wonderful job of transforming what was formerly Melange restaurant.
Chef Eve Aronoff of Eve Restaurant fame and the founder/creative genius of Frita Batido Cuban restaurants has put together a very wonderful menu for foodies to go to as well as anyone wanting great cocktails and small plates.
The wine options are deep and impressive as well.
First time since the renovation, we found "Dessous", formerly Melange, refreshing, classy, and delicious. The menu is wide-ranging and creative, with some holdovers from the Melange days but many Indian/Asian influences. The Wednesday half-off wine special is disappointingly gone, but the list is ample and features many affordable selections ($30 -$50). Perhaps the best part was Anna, our superb server. She is intimately acquainted with the menu and wines, and very helpful in making you feel at home. An outstanding touch was bringing the bottle(s) of wine ordered by the glass to the table, so you can actually confirm your selection. I wish more establishments did that. Altogether we had a great experience and will happily return.
The food was outstanding! Everything from first course to dessert! Service quick and friendly. Wine choices great! Only thing we didn’t care for is that the tables were so close together that you couldn’t help hearing the conversation next to us. When we are choosing a restaurant for a special occasion it is nice to be able to have conversation. We booked it with special occasion for our anniversary so it would have been nice to be seated separately. We’ll b back for the excellent food!
Eve's new venture is not to be missed! Elegant flavors with a French and Indian twist. The sleek decor makes this restaurant a must try.
Dessous has considerably upped its game from the space's former incarnation as Melange, under the same ownership. This seems to be largely the work of consulting chef Eve Aronoff, whose signature touches are everywhere, from the neutral, modern, monochromatic decor to the flavored butter and amped-up spicing of nearly every dish we tried.
Dinner during Restaurant Week isn't a fair test for any restaurant, but we received surprisingly outstanding, if slightly hurried, service,. The crab cake appetizer was wonderfully flavored but a bit too porridge-like in texture for my taste. Arroz con pollo was spicy but not particularly inspired, while the sea bass (also on the regular menu) was perfectly prepared and highlighted by the Brinery's kimchi.
Of particular note: a separate, $30-and-under wine list, with several interesting bottles, make Dessous more interesting for those who enjoy wine with dinner, but don't enjoy breaking the bank.
All-in-all, a very good but not great meal. But we'll definitely give them another try, and hope that they continue on their upward trajectory.
Nice ambiance, not an innovative meal. Would not go back
Thank god they didn’t 86 the duck nachos!!! Some other delightful additions including a sea bass. Yum and a half.
We enjoyed dessous during restaurant week. No trouble getting a reservation, and restaurant was barely 50% occupied upon departure. Food has an eastern/indian flare and a very good main menu selection from which several items (4 each for appetizers and entrees were drawn and 2 dessert selections). The lamb bolitos and salad were delicious, although the 2 lamb "meatballs" was skimpy. The arroz pollo and sea bass entrees were flavorful and portions just right (it's nice not too have heaping amounts of good food for which half goes home in a plastic container) and desserts were equally tasty and sized. The restaurant is very chic and modern; service was very good and the nicest surprise was affordable list of wines (~ 8) at under $30.
The sea bass was one of the best dishes I've ever had and the duck confit nachos are unique and delicious. Our waiter was well versed in the menu and was able to give some nice wine recommendations. Overall, it was a great experience.
Loved everything about this restaurant. Used to be Melange and they totally revamped the decor and menu. The cocktail menu was new also.
Extraordinary fusion of exotic spices and classic food. Superb service!!
dessous is easily my new favorite restaurant in ann arbor... there’s literally nothing to complain about! walking in alone the ambiance and vibes you get from the restaurant has eve’s (the chef) flowy, beautiful stamp on it - a perfect place to have formal/special dinners that doesn’t feel stuck up or uninviting... and you have the staff to thank for that as well. the staff is the best, just so kind and really know what they’re talking about when you ask for a menu explanation. speaking of the menu, my personal favorites include the avocado naan, ceviche, shrimp tacos, lamb shank, and sea bass.... but you truly can’t wrong on ordering anything off the menu (i’ve eaten everything haha). LOVE IT!
