Our menu brings together a mélange of flavors, textures and contrasts. The menu brings together influences of Jay’s Indian origin and features his mom’s homemade naan recipe made one at a time on a cast iron skillet, Scott’s upbringing around country cooking and our friend Chef Eve’s childhood memories of the spice markets in Jerusalem, growing up around vibrant flavors of Cuban cooking in Miami, and her culinary training in France.
Wow! A great dining experience from start to finish. I have to start by saying that our server was exceptionally good. She knew the menu backwards and forwards. She happily brought us not one, not two, but three servings of the free naan (which is deLIcious) and would have kept going if we hadn't decided we really did need to stop. She had that perfect combination of professionalism and friendliness that did not cross the border into "too much". And the food. The food was excellent across the board. Such an interesting and unique blend of French and Indian cuisine. There's nothing like it in Ann Arbor, or, frankly, anywhere else I've ever eaten. Finally, the restaurant is simply lovely. Beautifully designed. Cannot wait to go back because I wanted to try just about everything on the menu.
Every bite was fabulous! These chefs know what they are doing with flavors! Lovely atmosphere, yet comfortable and great service! We will definitely be going back again soon to try more menu items!
We took two friends to dinner for their first time at Dessous and they were impressed. Would have preferred Chilean sea bass on the menu. Winter salad was excellent as was the duck. Very picky guest enjoyed the scallops. Love the duck nachos and the bread. We were there at 8 pm, so not too crowded, but waiter was very slow taking the order. We had a good time.
Excellent atmosphere !! Great food! Love the host !!!
Servers work very hard but more are needed
Nice space with good service, pretty reasonably priced food and drinks, and flavorful dishes. It’s maybe a notch below the best places in Ann Arbor, but a very solid overall experience.
It was an interesting restaurant experience. The food covers a wide range of cuisines. I thought the lamb shank and vegetables were very good and prepared well, but the scallops were just okay. The wine by the class selection is excellent. The dining experience is in close quarters and the setting is a bit sterile. But all in all, the food is good, and it makes for an interesting evening.
Nice atmosphere. I like the curtains separating some of the tables. Menu was exactly the right size... not too many choices, but enough variety. Food was delicious!
Lovely choices, esp. cool weather salad with Maytag blue cheese, shrimp tacos and flavorful crab cakes. Lemon curd pie could use a stronger citrus boost. Fruit crumble near perfect for the season. The dining room is serene and low-key, a refuge from the bustle on Main Street. Service had a hiccup halfway through but the house made a good recovery. Craft cocktails hold many attractions. Overall, a splendid experience.
Wonderful addition to Ann Arbor's OK food scene. Creative menu, wonderful service, very pleasant ambiance
Great food, drinks and ambiance!
Food was delicious
Dessous was the perfect place to celebrate our 42 wedding anniversary dinner. We loved everything about the experience. Service, ambience and food were stellar.
The food was delicious, the wine we asked about and ended up having was also delicious. Our server was pleasant and efficient. One very nice thing was that it was warm and cozy on a day that was very cold and windy. Over all, a very nice experience before heading to The Ark for some music.
This place blew us away. From the knowledgeable staff to the amazing food and drink...
Cocktails were nice! Acoustics were so nice-a trio was playing but we were still able to carry on a conversation. Food was creative and yummy. We loved it!
With all of the great restaurants in Ann Arbor, it's easy to become really picky about there to dine. This place is worth it. dessous offers delicious and creative food, exceptional service, and a light and comfortable atmosphere.
Great service, atmosphere, food & drinks!! Will be back!
Thoroughly enjoyed our first dinner at Dessous on Friday night! Best, the food is great - my husband got the sea bass which he will now order again and again forever, our daughter ordered the Cool Weather Duck, also a hit. I ordered the Duck Confit Nachos which were a lovely smaller plate. Two of us had salad starters, both terrific (a composed romaine, and the cool weather frisbee salad). Only the Avocado Naan was a vague disappointment (bland). Second best, the ambience is great and a HUGE improvement over the prior tenant. Reminds me of many NYC restaurants which are bright and charming while lacking natural light. One tip already on Open Table, however, and oh-so-true... REQUEST A BOOTH. There is definitely a first class/second class/third class seating regime and - despite a reservation and an empty restaurant - they were hell-bent on seating us next to a service station at the end of a sterile aisle. We spoke up and recommend you do, too. Finally 3) service is charming and natural, but slow. Perhaps not the equal of the price point. Everyone seems sincere but inexperienced. Great if you're not in a hurry. They were barely 2/3 full on a Friday night and yet the kitchen and the staff took a while, for everything. We were enjoying yourselves, but I wouldn't go to Dessous if I had an event afterward.
Food was excellent. Server was prompt, very knowledgeable, and attentive. Craft cocktails were creative and tasty.
Dessous is far and away my favorite restaurant Ann Arbor. The service and the food are both excellent
A wonderful upscale haven in the middle of Ann Arbor. Enjoy the beautiful atmosphere while feasting on some cosmopolitan cuisine.
The salad and appetizers were overwhelming - excessive garlic and seasoning left me unable to fully enjoy the subtle flavor of my (delicious) pasta dinner. The cocktails were terrible. Switched to prosecco, but it didn't stand up to the overly seasoned dishes. The ambience is not my cup of tea either - reminds me of a cross between a formal living room from the 80s and a doctor's office. It's underground, so I don't know why they thought it would work to try to imitate light and airy decor that actually requires light and air to look right. 🤷
Service, choice, presentation and taste/texture were all excellent.
Lovely presence. Great service Excellent food. well presented and superb flavors
Quality throughout, definitely a special restaurant
Probably the best meal I have had in Ann Arbor, Period! Lamb Shank is Outstanding!
too noisy and there weren't even many people there.
Wonderful dinner with the girls, 3 foodies and me. Comfortable, loved the ambiance. Duck nachos were out of this world. I had the lamb and it was an overly generous portion, so yay dinner and lunch for 2 the next day. But I didn't share the naan, nope I ate that all myself 😋
Quiet modern chic restaurant with delicious food. We'll definitely be back for more!
Dessous is great! I loved the braised lamb shank and the spicy sea bass. The service is excellent and the prices are reasonable given the quality of the food and the service. A great place for a date or a special occasion.
Food and service was absolutely excellent. Definitely a great treasure!
Delicious food and good service
We really like the new contemporary atmosphere. The food during restaurant week was very tasty and the happy hour fab as always.
Absolutely amazing in every way
Excellent meal. We shared and enjoyed everything on the Restaurant Week menu.
We had dinner there for restaurant week. The food was excellent; among three of us none had anything they didn't like. My only ding would be on the service. For the most part it was excellent; food arrived in a timely manner, water was refilled before being out, beverages were checked to see if we wanted another, dishes were taken away fairly quickly. All the staff were extremely friendly without being intrusive. However, after serving our dessert the waiter disappeared for a long time without checking in to see if we wanted coffee/tea or if we needed our bill. There was also a bit of a snafu with the credit cards but I'm willing to write that one off as a one-time thing.
First time there. Enjoyed our dinner, immensely. Great selections. Great service. Great dining environment.
Excellent experience. Food, service, and ambiance are all top notch.
Fantastic meal with colleagues during restaurant week- almost all of us ordered the same thing - winter salad and the sea bass - and it was universally enjoyed.
