About Desi Vega's
Voted Best New Restaurants "Class of 13" by New Orleans Magazine. Desi Vega is the restaurateur of Desi Vega's Steakhouse and Mr. John's Steakhouse. Both restaurants are consistently outstanding and locals' favorite place to "see and be seen". Desi grew up in the restaurant business and was groomed by Ella Brennan at Commander's Palace, Ruth Fertel of Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and Emeril Lagasse. His attention to detail and commitment to excellence makes for a truly memorable dining experience. Our USDA Prime steaks are carefully selected, hand-cut and aged for tenderness, then seared to perfection and served on a sizzling plate. The Who Dat Shrimp appetizer and Andouille-crawfish Mac & Cheese are favorite dishes of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans players. We hope you'll visit to see for yourself!

Desi Vega's Ratings and Reviews
I had reservations for 9. When we arrived we were immediately seated. Which was great. The servers were good. The food, NOT so much. We had the shrimp rolled in bacon which was very dry. The steaks were not seasoned. The mashed potatoes tasted like it was instant. The asparagus, no flavor. I would not be going back.
Everything was excellent. The Who DAT shrimp was outstanding. We will definitely be back. Our waiter, JD, told us that the food would get better after each course. He was not kidding. It was already perfection from the appetizer. (Who Dat shrimp)
I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
The steaks were phenomenal!!! They are USDA prime, cooked to perfection and come to the table sizzling! A steak lovers dream! I had a crab cake for an appetizer which was delicious and also sizzling when served! My husband had the lamb chops. They were served with a flaming Mojito glaze and lit on fire! The staff was very knowledgeable & experienced! Exceptional! We will be back!
If I could give you zero stars I would. First time at Desi Vega's and I am certain it is my last. Full disclosure I had a 5:45 reservation and I got caught in some Mardi Gras traffic. I let the restaurant know I was running a little behind and was told they would only hold my table for 15 minutes. I got out of the car and ran a half of a mile making it with 2 minutes to spare. Once inside I was informed by the hostess that I had to be finished eating by 7:45 and that is the only way they would agree to give me the table. I asked what kind of reservation this was where I had to rush? The hostess said, "well you are late!" I reminded her they agreed to giving me 15 minutes past the time and I was there within that time. The hostess then tells me because it's Mardi Gras they don't want people just sitting occupying tables. I am sorry, I thought this was a restaurant where people come to relax, and enjoy a meal. I was brought to my table where the wait staff made it very clear that the meal would be rushed. We were asked at least 8 times what we wanted for entrées before finishing the first drink. I have never wanted to ask for the check midway through a meal until tonight. I was very relieved that we did not want dessert because I was looking a my watch all night to see how much time we had left. By my watch we would only have 10 minutes to eat dessert and drink coffee. The food was okay at best so I'm not sure why this place is so renowned. If you order a vodka tonic with orange wedges one would think it would not come with a lime and no orange. This happened at every round of drinks. To any one thinking of dinning here don't! Spend your $200 at a real New Orleans restaurant where they don't mind if you stay a while. To the owner of Desi Vega send the short hostess that was wearing the gray sweater to a hospitality course she has the worst manners and attitude that I have ever encountered in the service industry.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in New Orleans. The entire staff is wonderful and always so friendly. We love Addie the hostess! She is always so nice and works so hard to find a table even if I call at the last minute. The food is delicious, the wine selection is great...it is our family's go to place as well as our date night favorite. The meatball and garlic bread should be offered as a main course at dinner, however, but no one ever listens to me! LOL.
Saturday, date night, I was expecting the place to be busy, and it was. The hostess was polite and seated us, without a wait. However, she seated us right next to the entrance into the bar where waitstaff & barstaff enters, and the smell was horrible. When we asked to be moved, at this point, our waitress moved us...now, directly next to the entrance to the kitchen, with the same smell. I decided to just sit in a different chair and not asked to be moved again.
I thought this would be the only setback, I was wrong. Our waitress, Victoria, was very nice and polite at first. She read the specials and got our drink order. When she returned with our drinks, she immediately went to the next table and started putting a table cloth on the table, while she was trying to give us attention as well. I asked her again to repeat the specials and she gave a sigh, and repeated them, all the while still with attention on the table. I understand it was busy, but she could have given us the attention we deserved for a quick minute. We ordered and ate.
Our steaks were made the way we ordered, the twice-baked potato was the best part of the dinner however. I ordered the oscar-topping on my steak (lump crabmeat, that also came with asparagus...this was forgotten. I was into my steak before I realized it, but I made a mention of it and said I no longer wanted it; the potato was enough for me and my fiancé. Victoria brought a dessert, on the house, for forgetting the side order. However, I would have preferred something different, or if she would have asked if we had wanted a dessert, as I don't eat what she brought. However, I did appreciate the gesture.
I simply didn't feel that we were given great service from anyone other than Victoria's assistant and the manager. I would give them another try, as the food was good, but those 2 tables need to be removed from those areas, they are too close to the smell of chemicals and stagnant water.
Great food and service. My wife and I have been Saints season ticket holders since 2000 and try to visit this restaurant at least once annually. Food and service are very good. This past Sunday, after the NFC Playoff victory against Carolina, Coach Shan Payton and a number of players showed up for dinner which was an added plus. Would recommend it to anyone who likes drink and delicious food.
The waiters were awesome !!! However, the hostess looked overwhelmed and agitated upon approaching and was rude to a few of my guest. Amy was rude and only tried to accommodate us after being there for almost an hour. Overall the waiters out weighed the initial service and the fact that 4 of my guest left based on the attitude they received from the hostess . I will not be back but my best friend got a selfie with the owner by the restroom which I thought was pretty nice of him :-)
There was a group of 6, we were all very pleased with the wine list, service, food & atmosphere. I enjoyed the business casual attire of the people, nice to dress up a little for dinner these days. Wait staff was outstanding. It’s my go-to place when suggesting to friends!
Steaks were just 'OK', sides were so disappointing. The creamed spinach had WAY too much nutmeg in it, Oscar topping was dried crab over asparagus, missing the sauce, baked potato was ok. There are too many good spots to eat in NOLA to waste a night on this place.
The bread and gumbo were GREAT, but the STEAKS were not cooked to order. We got there before some larger parties, and our steaks still were not done correctly. Two of us ordered medium rare, and we got medium well. I suspect it was because they probably cook it medium rare but then put it on a sizzling plate where it continues to cook. Also, three of us ordered the petite filet, and it they were different sizes (in fairness one was butterflied), but still the other two were significantly different in size. The creme brûlée was very good as well. I gave them a poor rating because it is a “steakhouse” and they were not good.
Our group from work came here for a Christmas lunch and everyone was blown away by how good their steaks were. The service was excellent, similar to what you would expect at Commander’s Palace. All 7 people in our group got either the ribeye or the filet. Each were cooked perfectly and came on a piping hot plate. For appetizers, the bacon stuffed shrimp were awesome, the spinach dip was pretty good but was the least memorable. Overall, we had an outstanding meal and will return for sure to have another steak.
Went for our anniversary dinner and everything was wonderful. Husband had the cowboy ribeye and he is still talking about the spices on it ... wonderful. I can never get past their lobster tails. I'm not sure what they put on them to make them so flavorful, but whatever they do, it works very nicely. Although they have ruined me for lobster anywhere else. Highly recommend. Expensive, but, top place.
