Derek's Ratings and Reviews
This was one of those nights where everything was just OK. The waiter was overly chatty and seemed confused by our every order. The food came promptly, but it seemed to have been prepared by someone with a good cookbook but without much of a flair for cooking. DW had a burger, which was delicious, and my sense is that this place is best for red-meat lovers (of which I am not one). The price was fine, so I can't really say that it wasn't worth it. It was just nothing special.
Will probably go back eventually to give it another go, but I won't hurry.
I had the Chilean sea bass and it was very salty. My wife had the butternut squash dish and found it to be extremely sweet. We were seated on the first level and it was extremely tight. I was constantly hit by the waitresses as well as the other patrons leaving or coming. This was a special occasion for us, and I was very disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant.
I live in Manayunk & wanted a nice place for a business lunch. Perfect choice! Our waiter was super, handling special requests and so attentive. The kitchen also prepared our choices off the menu, much to our delight (could we have the freshly baked flat bread with Parmesan rather than garlic? The mushroom & steak salad with no mushrooms?) My only regret was my business partners had no time for coffee & dessert, though the waiter did tempt us with the "afters" menu, which looked great.
I admired the art on the walls, though you can admire the street scene from the sidewalk tables or window seats in the front. The dining room in the back faces an outdoor garden, so lots of natural light and high ceilings. We enjoyed the restaurant. Thanks, Derek's!
Just back in town after two weeks abroad, we headed out to Dereks to pick-up on the vibe of dining what watching people walk buy like every restaurant we visited in Italy. Warm and inviting setting was matched by flawless execution from the host, wait and kitchen teams.
Sunday night isn't a typical "out to dinner" night for us - but after discovering the half priced wine bottle list at Derek's - it's about to become one. We settled on a spectacular French Sauvignon Blanc that paired exceptionally well with Derek's Secret Recipe country chicken and with the jumbo scallops with fig jam on roasted potatoes. We spilt an overly generous heirloom beet salad with mixed greens and candied walnuts - simply delightful.
In short, Derek's deserves the high marks and high praise found in the OpenTable reviews and their conscientious service team was considerate with the perfect amount of attentiveness. A grown-up dining experience for certain, we'll be back to sample more of their well rounded menu.
In general, the service is great but it fell short of expectations. First the bread that was promised was not delivered. Then, one of the credit cards was dripped from the folio. When brought to the attention of server and host, it took a while to locate. Someone had returned it to the bar and instead of getting it for us, we were told to fetch it from the bar.
Just alerting you to these lapses as I've always loved coming to Derek's and want to have others that I bring there with me also have a great experience.
The food is good, personnel friendly and we like the Manayunk area for a strolll, before and/after a meal.
My problem with "Ambience" on this particular day was that the air conditioner blew cold air onto us, on an already cool-enough day. We were offered a different table, to be fair, but the window view was an attraction we'd not sacrifice.
Fantastic, my second time here I had the steak with Parm mash potatoes delicious my cousin had the ribs with fries and the lobster bisque soup
She loved it
Best of all was byob no corking fee Sunday through Thursday
Our waiter cary was fabulous had a wonderful night out with family before heading back to south Florida
My food took a very long time to arrive at my table and I only ordered the California salad. The waiter did not check in with my table very often to give any update on my order or ask if we needed more water/drinks. My guest and I ended up going to a different establishment on the strip to continue the evening. This was not my first time at Derek's however this was by far the worse experience I've had there.
The service was very attentive and the food was good. My wife and I were just looking for a relaxing evening out and decided on dericks and glad we did. We were immediately seated upstairs and it was very nice there. I had the chicken and it was so tender I cut it with a butter knife. Definitely on my return list of restaurants!
We went here for restaurant because they offered the best menu out of anyone in Manyunk. Food was great. My only problem was we were originally seated in these really low comfy chairs. Although comfy, it was very difficult to eat and drink while sitting in them.
My sister and I decided to have an outing abd we wanted something refreshing and a place we never been. We decided here because it was recommended by a friend for mother's day (which unfortunately, we could not celebrate). So I remember the menu (partially) and we went for it. Had a few drinks and a great time the food was unforgettable!! The duck quesodillias are delicious...enjoy!
Maybe going for restaurant week was a bad idea. Only food served was from restaurant week menu. Right.. Like no burgers, how could they!?! Food served room temperature to cold. Ran out of ribs. Waitress kept attending to other guests while taking our order. And to top it all off, mice came out to play at the end of the night.
We went to Derek's last night for restaurant week and had a horrible experience! The service was terrible, at one point our waitress actually disappeared for a half hour! She never asked if we needed anything and took forever to get our drinks once we asked for them. We had reservations for 7:30 but literally did not get our first food app until after 9pm! Once we got the food, my soup was cold and entree was bland and tasted like frozen ravioli. My fiancée's "filet mignion" was all fat and he couldn't even eat his meal it was that terrible. It seemed like all the tables around us were experiencing the same problem and once servers brought out food, they asked every table if it was their meals or not. Clearly the staff had no idea what they were doing. It was the worst restaurant week experience I've ever had and not to mention our outrageous bill at the end of the meal! I will never return to Derek's!
I had a one clock reservation for brunch and although we were seated promptly, the food didn't arrive until an hour after we sat down. The manager compensated us for the meal but seeing as the food came out wrong after that long of a wait didn't make it worth it really. The restaurant was by no means packed but did have a few large parties which could explain the wait, but the food still wasn't as good as one would've expected.
After a long day of traveling from Southern MD to Philadelphia for Luke Bryan weekend we sat down for dinner with my son, nephew and their girlfriends outside. It added to the experience people watching and seeing what Manayunk living is like; seems a lot like center city just more community like. My son ordered for the table and we did family style, taking some suggestions from our server Alisa as well we had a few pizzas, lemon calamari, watermelon salad and each of the ravioli specials. The shrimp ravioli in lobster brown butter were my favorite along with the sangria and bread pudding. Where I'm from bread pudding is a big thing and glad to see it is at Derek's, too. We even when back for an excellent brunch the next day in what my son called a "day load" whatever that is.
My friends and I really enjoyed our dinner. There were many delicious choices on the menu which made it a bit hard for me to make a decision. The bread was fantastic. The appetizers were yummy. My pizza was perfect. I would definitely go back for a dinner with just my boyfriend. Maybe we will dine in a new section of the restaurant since there were 4 options. We dined in the outdoor back courtyard which was very nice for our double date. The staff was also very friendly.
