Dere Street Steak
I ordered a filet mignon and my wife had salmon on risotto. Both were well-prepared and well-presented. Our waitress was friendly and gave us appropriate attention (not too much or too little). We ate on the porch on a beautiful evening, and enjoyed the view of the houses along Main Street. All and all, an excellent experience. Prices are perhaps a bit high, but we'll certainly be back.
Food was perfection. Excellent service. Celebrated our anniversary.... lovely atmosphere
We always enjoy the ambience. The server was appropriately attentive and friendly. The food we had was good, as usual, but the menu is severely limited and has not changed significantly over time. Certainly at this point it could not be considered a "European" menu (and maybe the addition of "Steak" to the name should have dispelled that expectation). Two of the four salads offered included bacon and, ok, I asked them to skip the bacon, which was easy enough, but come on, guys, it's a salad. The Mains offered are interesting enough, but generally pretty heavy stuff. Would it hurt to offer a couple more items that are a bit lighter (and, no, a great pea and asparagus risotto loaded with cheese is not lighter fare).
Steak was not cooked, ordered medium rare, came out cooked on end and raw in center. Mashed potato was so small you could fit the entire side dish on a soup spoon. I thought it was overpriced with very little food for the money. Not a good value. Very disappointed. A restaurant with steak in the name should at least be able to cook a steak properly. Staff was very nice.
Delightful & delicious! Such a great menu & atmosphere.
Talented chef..the food is really good. Just wish there were more options for those of us who don't eat meat or bacon (so many dishes with bacon). I know it is now a "steakhouse" but I'm sure they don't want to lose customers who don't eat meat. There used to be more options.
The latest changes have turned a
Good restaurant into a great restaurant.
Returning customers, again and again
Ok. Just ok. Expected better. Waitress fine.
Three sandwiches were offered at lunch. The one I ordered was supposed to have cream cheese. I was informed they ran out of cream cheese. Go figure
A special place with a special menu -- you'll likely never see some items anywhere else!
As far as ambience and noise, when we first sat the music, which was great, was too loud, with the speaker right above our heads. But without even asking the volume level was soon reduced to a very enjoyable level.
We will definitely be back; there are menu items that still need to be explored!
Excellent food, wonderful service! We will definitely be back.
Attentive service great atmosphere where conversation can be enjoyed over meal. Food perfection!
Our server, Christiana, was friendly, informative, and professional. She made thoughtful recommendations regarding our dinner choices and we were not disappointed! Our party of four enjoyed the rib eye and filet mignon cuts cooked to perfection in addition to finishing with the sticky toffee pudding. Overall, wonderful dining experience had by all.
Wonderful experience. Service was a bit slow to start at 6:30 but that was because many people arrived at about the same time. For the remainder of our two hours, the service was timely and excellent. We had the 8 oz Filet Mignon, which was more than enough for two people (we tend to want smaller portions that are typically served.), and was cooked to perfection. For appetizers, we had the smoked salmon filled with crabmeat (excellent) and the Burratta and tomato salad (only they forgot the tomatoes and finally substituted small cut cherry tomatoes - not a good substitute). The restaurant is located in the heart of the Newtown village, at the flagpole. The car noise was not noticeable and the experience of eating out on the deck in the center of town was excellent.
Best restaurant in Newtown. Beautiful ambiance and location! Scrumptious fresh food and the menu is wonderfully varied with delectable English cuisine. Each dish wonderfully prepared from soup to nuts! And such wonderful service. Everyone is so kind. Thank you!!!
My fiancé and I had dinner here this past weekend and could not have asked for a better experience. We had a reservation and sat at the bar while we waiting for our table and decided to just and eat our meal there. The bartender and rest of the staff were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the food and menu. The ambiance was perfect and the the drink selection was superb, I recommend the Purple Rain! Also love the fact that all the cocktails are inspired after songs. Our meal was excellent and the porterhouse was so good and cooked just right. I would highly suggest ordering the mussels to start, the broth was very unique and delicious. Im also a huge dessert lover and will be going back if only for the sticky pudding, you won’t regret eating dessert because it is so worth the calories! We will certainly be going back very soon!!! A-Mazing! Start to finish!
Have been wanting to try this restaurant for a couple years. We weren’t disappointed. Coffee arrived lukewarm but they gladly brewed a fresh and hot pot when requested.
Food & service was very good. We sat outside on the patio, which was pleasant. Halibut special I had was exceptional.
We chose this place because it was the mid-point that left a one hour drive for us and a one hour drive for friends we wanted to get together with. Neither of us had been here before and the food was a secondary concern on this occasion. Happily, we were pleasantly surprised to find excellent food, good menu choices and friendly, attentive service. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered and would now like to try a another menu item; so, we are looking for an occasion to go back.
Great food, great service, and fantastic quiet music. Perfect dining experience.
Excellent food and service.
My Husband and I are new to Redding and had dinner for the first time at Deer Street Friday night. It was our Wedding Anniversary and I was hoping it would be good...well it was by far one of the best dinners we have have ever had!!!! The salads were fresh and excellent, the devil on a horseback appetizer was delicious and our mail corse of filet was melt in your mouth perfect! The cocktail were hand crafted to perfection and all fresh ingredients. I loved the names of the cocktails too! I know you will enjoy!!!
We were so full, but of course had to try a dessert, they were very thoughtful and wrote a Anniversary note in chocolate on our plate...
We will be back again and again...
Thank you for making our Anniversary dinner just perfect!

Fantastic food! Nice casual atmosphere. Great service. A little overpriced but we loved the food.
We winter in Fl. and had our first experience in the New Dere St. STEAK. My wife’s pork chop and vegetable were excellent...my ribeye tender and cooked med rare as requested. Not only has the food menu changed, but the liquor offerings were also changed from only boutique brands to more recognizable ones. It’s a good sign when the management listens to its customers. Well done !
The only negative is the pricing of the drinks... $15.00 is the most I’ve paid for a Grey Goose on the rocks (outside of NYC that is)
Everything OK but: had French fries as a side dish. Was told They do NOT have ketchup. How can a steak place or restaurant not have ketchup. Gave a small dish of cocktail sauce as a substitute. Ugh. Second, when the waitress cleared our dishes there was a French fry in the middle of the table. She just left it there. Never cleared it while we were there.
Wonderful food, one of the best steak's I have had! English chips :)
New menu with steak offerings is great. Choices of beef selections are all worth trying especially with their sides.
My wife, daughter and I were excited to try the restaurant for the first time, which will certainly not be our last! The menu was a fantastic mix of classics, upscale and a steak menu. We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer to share, which were amazing, and my wife is from Milan so that says a ton. The entrees were to die for and cooked perfectly and seasoned oh so right. We ended on as good a note as we started with the sticky toffee pudding and banana creme brûlée. The wine list was expertly paired to the menu as well. The service was impeccable. We also met the owner who was attentive and gracious to us as guests as well as obviously having trained an excellent staff. Top notch place from food to decor to service. Highly recommend.
Many changes are going on at Dere Street Restaurant, not all positive as we absolutely loved it prior and were frequent patrons. The menu has shifted toward steaks now. I chose the filet which was very good but was my default selection given the limited other choices now offered. I was disappointed in my drink and appetizer (which has never happened before). Hopefully the transition is still adapting.
Awesome Food will be going back to try all the steaks available. 👍
Sunday brunch - Eggs Benedict scone with salmon - superb.
We were surprised to learn that the restaurant has changed ownership and is now emphasizing steak. As a vegetarian, I found the options limited and had soup and salad for dinner. Luckily, the same great chef is there and the food is really good. The dining room is darker with dark walls and a large dark picture of a guitar instead if the colorful quirky Euro photos that were there before. It's still good but something is missing.
Awesome new changes! I don't eat of lot of meat so wasn't sure about a steak house but had The Best appetizer dates stuffed with goat cheese in a red wine syrup and a creamy pea asparagus risotto. yummy special drinks and a cool relaxed vibe. sat outside which is covered and pretty. Happy staff - so refreshing. British chef so try the toffee pudding dessert, heavenly. my friends had steaks which they said were excellent with killer sauces.
We love the food at Dere Street. Hoping they bring back Afternoon Tea.
Great food, great value, great staff. On point all around. Have been and will continue to frequent. Not sure how the noise level rating is intended to be scaled but my intention is to reflect a low level of noise. You don't have to shout to have a conversation. Even at the cocktail bar.
Always a great meal and creative cocktails matched only by outstanding service. Easily our favorite spot
We'd heard good things about this place and went on Valentine's Day for lunch to check it out. It was as fabulous as we'd heard and we'll definitely go back. The fish and chips were outstanding, best we've ever had, the chocolate tart for dessert was SO good, and the drink menu had several interesting choices. The one with thyme, mint and gin was very tasty.
Made a 5:30 reservation [pretty early] walked in to an EMPTY restaurant was asked to sit by door, that kitchen staff keep using to go get stuff, it's cold out, asked hostess can we have one of those nice two toppers by the windows, she goes into a 5 min explanation of why this will mess up het whole evening table plan because she has some 7:30 reservations she has to be ready for... after actually deciding to "LEAVE" because of how ridicules this seemed in an EMPTY restaurant, at the door, a waitress comes and says "hold on" after another min of looking at some screen, the hostess informs us we can have the table but have to be "done" by 6:30 I told her if she hadn't wasted 10min deciding if she wanted us a s a customer we would be well done by 6:30... we stayed [the food is good] when we left at 6:35 not so much as a Thanks or a sorry for the misunderstanding... Food is great, but not sure I'd go back. More restaurants need to remember people want great food but they come BACK because of Hospitality..
Fresh food, decent portions, a little pricey but your paying for decor and culinary trained kitchen staff. Definitely a great place too eat and enjoy a nice relaxing cocktail.
It is our favorite place to eat for any occasion... But Sunday is when we go most... The Sunday Roast is exceptional! There is a fabulous choice on the menu, which I am working my way through... Simply put everything is delicious. Service is also outstanding which is matched by the decor.
Highly recommend a visit.... You will be guaranteed to return!
