Danish
Denmark House is a small piece of Denmark in the middle of Melbourne CBD. Offering the best of Denmark: wonderful Danish food, served in beautiful Danish design in a enjoyable atmosphere of Danish music and “hygge”, which translates as ‘coziness’.

The New Nordic cuisine is one of the leading gastronomic experiences in the world. Denmark House is part of this Nordic food
revolution and the restaurant and bar will provide you with a traditional yet modern Danish experience.

For lunch we offer 20 different kinds of “smørrebrød” – the traditional Danish open sandwich. You can choose your own selection or go for the tasting platter, a healthy lunch option when you fancy something different.

In the evening we serve a contemporary menu inspired by New Nordic cuisine with an emphasis on comfort foods so guests sample true Danish ‘hygge’ when dining at Denmark House.

Super Danish food in a little quiet corner of tranquility, with polite and attentive service.

Good food, good service, quiet enough to read the introduction to Elton’s translation of Saxo Grammaticus or Hans Christian Anderson if the mood strikes you. I thought briefly about Kejserens nye klæder (and about how terrible my Danish was), enjoyed the delicious sandwiches and will gladly dine again in future.

My wife and I went to Denmark House for a Tuesday lunch. I had high expectations for this restaurant, and was not disappointed. It is a tad on the expensive side, but the food was superb, and the staff super-friendly and attentive, even after the restaurant got busy. They took the time to explain some of the dishes and drinks to us when we asked. The decor is simple but comfortable and spacious, as one would expect for a Scandinavian establishment. We opted for the 'Feed Me Danish' menu item, a set of four pre-selected smørrebrød flavours, and also the 'Matched Akvavits', although for the future I think we'd skip the latter and try some other drinks. We shared these between the two of us, then ordered two more individual smørrebrød versions from the menu, the Laksesalat and the Blåskimmelost. All were absolutely delicious, but I particularly loved the last one. For desserts we ordered the Kransekage (because I love marzipan and also developed a weakness for Traestamme while in Denmark), while my other half ordered the Citronmarengstærte. I am not normally a fan of meringues, but this one was again absolutely delicious. We finished off the meal with some French plunger coffee. I was looking forward to the dining experience at lunch time, and would definitely go back again. We both agreed that we would also like to try their evening menu at a future date.

Service was EXCELLENT. Ambience was pretty awful. Felt like we were dining in a city office rather than a restaurant. Food was great but not enough of it. Wouldn’t come back except for how great the service was and the quality of the (not enough) food. Food quality was better than quantity.

Service was very friendly - really nice that they offered our toddler some colouring entertainment. The food is DIVINE - feels like I’ve been transported to my Farmor’s kitchen.
