We enjoy eating at Demarchelier for lunch whenever we visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The food is wonderful. The service is attentive. They even charged my husband’s phone . It reminds me of our trips to France.
Great ambiance and a wonderful neighborhood spot, but would have to say that in terms of the food, there are other French bistros nearby with better quality at a similar price point.
The traditional French bistro is a dying breed in New York, and Demarchelier is to be recommended mostly because there are so few such places left. Everything is of its kind and pretty good: the salad, the bread, the dessert. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing to cheer very loudly about.
Delicious food and very nice setting
If only the food matched the warm and cozy decor and the service. My husband's filet mignon was mostly gristle; the scallops I had were not bad but undistinguished. I had often passed the restaurant while walking or riding on Madison Avenue and been struck by the great looking interior of Demarchelier. I had no idea the exterior was superior to the interior!

It was great to be in a semi-private space that wasn’t too noisy. I only wish the waiter hadn’t abandoned us after the food was served. I was thirsty and wanted more water, and we waited a long time to find a waiter to bring us the check. The Asian chicken salad was OK, but why do chefs insist on grilling chicken breasts? They’re always dry and tasteless. At home I poach chicken thighs, which are moist and tasty.

Good neighborhood place
The mailer d’ was rude, unlike another we have encountered there. She was like one in a typical mediocre Paris Bistro so perhaps an authentic experience. Food was over-salted. Coq sure vin: dark meat mushy, breast hard as a rock. Bar Boulud is magnitudes better.
For local lunches only. It feels very French. which is its most appealing quality, but the food is mediocre.
The service is slow and, often, unresponsive.
Just wonderful. We were a large group but Demarchelier worked with us and met all our needs. Outstanding service, food and wine! We will be back!!

The location and the French decor is the only good thing about this place .
I will not go back .I ordered a veggie burger and it was a microwaved overcooked burger served on a piece of bread with two slices of tomatoes and onions ,no cheese ,no dressing ,no flavor ,no care for the taste or presentation.
I ‘m French and I was very disappointed to have picked this place for what I thought would be a wonderful lunch.

Late dinner on a Sunday night we had organic liver with beat salad and artichoke first and crepesfor dessert. All went very well despite the having run out of first choice was the cold salmon. After little waite one was more than satisfied with the excellent food and caring service.
Good location near Central Park. Had brunch. Brought us burned pancakes we had to send back. Service inattentive. Mediocre experience.
The service here is never friendly but we would go because there aren’t lots of good choices in the 80’s and 90’s. Tonight sadly, the food was really sub-par. The mussels were dry, the escargot were tasteless and did not seem fresh and our usual favorite, the fondue, was mostly butter and very little cheese. The champagne was $20/glass and not very cold or very good. There was one waiter for the entire dining room. Overall a really disappointing experience. I hope they tell the chef and bring back the quality of the food.
The food was O.K., nothing particularly special but perhaps I made the wrong choice. They forgot our dessert crepe for which we waited at least twenty minutes. The bathroom is small and not very well appointed and there can be a long wait. Considering the lack of moderately-priced restaurants in the vicinity of the Met it was a good choice.
Absolutely perfect in an effortless, understated way. Classic French dishes in a lively room adorned with original art. One of the best burgers around and tarte tatin not to be missed! Also the perfect simplicity of endive, apple and blue cheese salad was a lovely start!

I like the place and the ambience. It has good energy. I had the prix fixe and the food was not so great. It is well priced but the steak was very average and fatty. I do like that you can add sauce for $2.50 and substitute spinach for fries for 2.50 but it was better for a nice night with friends than for the food. hope it's better next time

Demarchelier is a lovely authentic French bistro located near the Metropolitan and Guggenheim museums. It provides the perfect lunch before an art-filled afternoon. You can expect all of the usual French fare: nicoise salad, mules frites, eggs benedict for Sunday brunch. I will put this in my file for my next museum outing!
Excellent food and service
It is becoming our favorite neighborhood restaurant! Had a most recent terrific time with friends and the staff was so very accommodating of all our requests. Thanks for a great time by all.

Consistently reliable Upper East Side bistro. Convenient to Mad Ave shopping and museums. I wish duck confit was still on lunch menu!.

Perfectly cooked (not over-cooked ), grilled swordfish accompanied by a delicious mustard sauce. That, along with excellent service made for a most enjoyable dinner in this lovely restaurant.
