Delmonico's Ratings and Reviews
Our meal was OK, nothing special especially for the prices. One of my guests' steak was overcooked and he was disappointed but didn't want to send it back because he didn't want to delay our business lunch. All in all, it was nice to take someone a historic landmark but for my money, Capital Grill a few blocks away is a better place.
Took my girlfriend here for her suprise birthday dinner and she loved it! True steakhouse with phenomenal food. No wonder why this place has been running for over 100 years! Given its a bit pricey, but what Steakhouse isn’t? In my opinion, it was worth every penny. We had the filet minion, specialty burger (recommended to all my burger enthusiasts), mashed potatoes, hash browns, Brussel sprouts and topped all that deliciousness with the profiterol dessert. Everything was great!
Was my steak precooked? My strip was not hot was not even warm and came out of the kitchen way too fast. My side of spinach ordered with garlic and olive oil was steamed and was not drained, thus watery with no hint of garlic. We are going back to Smith and Wollensky for a better dining experience. Timefor a dessert and what do we get ?appears to be factory made and bland.
Their steaks used to be so good, but something went wrong last time when we went there. The Delmonico steaks all four of us ordered were terrible - lots of fats and the quality was not as good as they used to be. After this terrible experience, it is hard for me to consider going back there again. (their sister restaurant: Delmonico Kitchen in midtown is way better!)
As a Chef I can say that this was the worst food I had ever paid for, and couldn’t eat!
Salty salad! Salty steak!!! Wrong menus disciption!!! Don’t waste good money on horrible goods!
The cooks don’t know how to cook fillet mignon to right temp, I got Cold Meat instead of Medium rear,
The server asked how is the food, I replied; horrible! Salty, raw, and no sweet potato chipolini onions on my wife’s short ribs...
The server said: I see that you don’t like it!
And left the table!!!!
I and my wife did not eat nor enjoy our $170 steaks, paid and left very very upset!
No manager was available to speak to me!
Shame on you!!!!
I would like a refund and apologize!
Not sure which of 3-4 different waiters were ours, still had to grab a busser almost every time we needed something on a low key Thursday night. Drinks came well after the appetizer (martini & scotch in a glass, not that hard). No Sommelier anymore for the wine. Wine we ordered came 20 mins after we got the main course, which was overcooked. Baked Alaska left something to be desired. Haven't been here for 2-3 years. Always used to have a hreat experience. It will be a while before trying again.
The Lobster Newburg had a very generous portion of lobster, but the sauce was a bit off, more like Thermidor really. The baked Alaska was definitely not baked the day we were there, but the rest of the meal was outstanding. The foie gras was exceptional. We will visit next time for breakfast.
I wanted to try the NY classic Delmonico's, and order one of their famous steak. I took the signature one. It was awesome, with a perfect medium rare cooking, incredibly tender and tasty.
Overall very good service and expected ambiance for a Wall Street institution.
Disappointed..... To be fair the quality of the food was very good but besides that service was subpar and the ladie’s restrooms at the rest stop on the NJ Parkway are by far up to better standards. Attentive service was nonexistent. After the server explained that they Pool their tips together it made more sense. One of the two women’s stalls was a mess with a clogged toilet and neither had toilet paper. I would have expected way more for a $400 meal. Save your time and money and eat elsewhere!!
Took my bf for his birthday - we had a nice time here. Service was mostly great although a bit confusing in the beginning when 2 waiters seemed to change coverage. Otherwise everything else was great from the food to relatively quiet atmosphere. Wine recommendation by the waiter was on point. Delmonico's potatoes are a must!
As soon as I walked inside, it felt like it was 1910, or somewhere near. Beautiful paneled walls,paintings,lighting- all in time with one another.
This place has excellent cocktails to start the evening. Sturdy, knowledgeable waiters are good listeners, and are of high quality servers. They were always right at hand, offering whatever my needs were.
Their incomparable Delmonico steak is not to be missed; simply put.
A more than adequate wine list supplies a compliment to the exceptional food.
This (to me) is a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed if you like quality food, service and atmosphere.
The food was just ok. Not a knock out steak, as I had hoped. However, the wait staff was great, it's possible to have a conversation with your dinner partner without screaming (a rarity in NYC these days), and the setting is very comfortable. So a good experience overall. Spent ~$300 for two.
I’ve always wanted to go to Delmonico’s. It did not disappoint. Waiter was great, food was classic, and they even made us the Lobster Newburg appetizer (not on menu that night). Great bar too. If I lived in NYC, I’d celebrate all of my special occasions there. Hell, my grandfather used to go there back in the day.
Their supposedly signature Delmonico steak was a disappointment. Although the crust and temperature were perfect, the steak had way too much salt in it. Half of it was acceptable but still on the salty side. The other half was absolutely atrocious and simply inedible. We already ate the first half at that point, so didn't feel like exchanging it.
Now the crab cake. Tasted weird. Part of it could be the new flavor, but something was definitely wrong with either the crab meat or the veggie mixed in. At least one of them was not fresh.
And then there was the service. First waiter was about to clock out and obviously didn't care for us. The second guy was great but he was only there for the last 20 minutes of our meal.
Most incredibly disappointing dining experience. I'm not sure if this restaurant has changed owners/mgmt/chef recently but the whole experience was awful. Starting from the lobster bisque that tasted like beef, not anything like lobster and was luke warm. Then the steaks were cooked perfectly, but tasted like pure salt blocks. The bearnaise sauce was cold and the fried onion garnish was ice cold and tasted stale. The manager came over to mansplain to us that in this restaurant, bearnaise sauce is always served cold and the onions were purely meant to be garnish. As such they are cooked earlier and served cold. In this case they were clearly cooked 2 weeks ago. So poor all around. Don't waste your time here. This used to be a gem, but sadly is now a dud.
