Beautiful restaurant . Top of the line food and service . Love the old world charm.
Only disappointing factor was the dress of other diners. I truly think jeans in a restaurant such as Del Monico's was very inappropriate . It is a class-act restaurant. Sad to say most of the customers were not a class-act.

Classic. Institution for steak-lovers. Not inexpensive, but portions are generous & I’ve NEVER had a bad meal here. Everything’s made to order, so joyfully spend on cocktails w/conversation whist you wait.

Outstanding!!! We arrived for 8.15 and it was busy with a good level of noise and action. Come 9.30 it had died down considerably..

Staff were top topnotch and food was great.. Big lumps of meat cook perfectly..

I can see why this place has been around for 180 years! The steak was perfect all the way through and the char was splendid! The king crab mac n cheese was amazing and the creaminess complimented the steak perfectly!

This was the finest steakhouse experience of my life. My girlfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day and were impressed with the experience at every level. We requested a quiet/private table and were seated in a special room. It was very intimate and the food was outstanding. I will definitely be back for another occasion if my wallet allows me...

It was the second time that I had met a friend there. We returned because our first experience was perfect. This time all was amiss. The waiter did not tend to basics and hovered doing nothing. We felt unwanted which was confirmed when I asked for cheese as a dessert and the waiter rudely waved me off. I live in California and look forward to returning to my former residence, especially as the food in so many restaurants is unparalleled. This was absurdly poor.

Solid but unexciting steakhouse. Relies heavily on name recognition and history, but at least provides a decent meal. Cocktails are underwhelming. If you're looking for the best steak in a historic setting, check Keen's or Peter Luger.

This was my first time at the oldest restaurant in NYC, and in no way did it disappoint. The food was luxurious; the atmosphere friendly, and the service impeccable. We three each had different items, and so we could taste a variety. The lobster bisque was lovely, and the scallops appetizer succulent. We had two different steaks and lobster newberg, all of which were delicious. Dessert was cheesecake (light and airy), chocolate mousse cake (rich and dense), and Baked Alaska: gorgeous!

Classic dishes ordered at the classic restaurant where they originated made for a fun evening and excellent meal. The atmosphere is classic and timeless, with wood paneling, wall decor, chandeliers, tablecloths and candles on tables. Service was NY-minute efficient, friendly, and professional. We ordered Delmonico steak rare...perfect, Lobster Newburgh...classic, Baked Alaska..scrumptious. Wine was surprisingly nicely priced. Overall a satisfying, classic meal done right.

My boyfriend and I went for restaurant week and it was lovely! For the value of the meal, the portions were smaller than what I would imagine they normally are but it was worth paying for the meal at a fraction of the price. Our server was very attentive and we were placed in a separate room so our date was much more intimate. I also made our reservation on the OpenTable app and checked off that it was my birthday and my dessert came with a candle! They really went above and beyond with the service.

The food was perfection, and a great value on the Restaurant Week lunch menu.

But was disappointed and frustrated that the service was not nearly as top-notch. Both our waiter and busboy failed to bring ice for my water as requested, until reminded, and -- perhaps due to a shift change mid-afternoon -- we had to wait nearly 20 minutes for our check.

The drinks and food was good. The service was terrible. We had to ask for bread plates, they had no been placed on the table. We had to ask for napkins, they had not been placed on the table. The menu was not properly explained to us. We had been looking forward to this meal. We were disappointed.
Thank you.

This was a Restaurant Week lunch. I was disappointed at the dining area decor. I had pictured something more plush. The food was filling but ordinary. One of the best things about Restaurant Week is how the chef plans the menu to fit the cost. The starters of risotto with seafood, and the lobster bisque were good. Short ribs for the entree was tasty. Desserts of baked Alaska ( $8 supplement) , and a chocolate mousse were good. This was my first baked Alaska. I found it too sweet but have nothing to compare it against. The meal overall was good but not memorable.

My wife and I went for Winter Restaurant Week. We ended up getting the petit filet mignon and the lobster Newberg for our entrees. The filet mignon was one of the best steaks I've ever had: well-cooked on the outside, pink/red on the inside with spectacular flavor. Not a single part of it was tough or difficult to eat. The lobster Newberg was succulent and rich. Truly a unique experience, and fun to order it where it was first created. Our waiter was professional and knowledgeable, while the rest of the staff were polite and attentive. Not much else to say- a wonderful experience overall!

The Lobster Bisque & Lobster Newburgh sauces were virtually identical, save tarragon added to the Newburgh.
Not a bad soup/sauce, good lobster flavor, but too thin (not enough or lower fat cream used.)
The lobster meat in the soup (1 small claw) was terribly overcooked/tough, while the meat (& veggies) in the Newburgh were cooked perfectly. The portion size for the Newburgh was generous.
The bread had zero crunch, OK taste.
Ditto for the Delmonico Potatos.
90 seconds in a hot oven & a short trip under the broiler would have helped both. I expected something similar to crunchy hash browns (in part), but ended up with a microwave dish.
You could learn texture from a good Greek Diner or any restaurant serving an Onion Soup Gratinee with the bread/toast not the texture of Wonder.
That said, the taste of the potatoes was excellent.
The desserts, Creme Brulee & Baked Alaska were excellent. The Baked Alaska had more of marshmallow than meragne taste (works better!) & was perfectly "tanned." I don't like cold Creme Brulee (maybe just me), but the taste was fine & sugar glaze perfect.
The dining room is elegant, traditional & in good shape (vs. Waldorf-Astoria suites for comparison.)
The staff is knowledgeable & helpful, the front a bit aloof.

I was really impressed about the service. You didn't have time to call the waiter because he was already asking you what you needed. I think they have two waiters per table, plus the person who pours water. AMAZING.

Visited during restaurant week. Eggs Benedict was very good, dry aged steak was life-changing, as well as being a great deal. Ordered an OJ which was mediocre however. Not a big deal but would expect attention to such details at such a respected and storied restaurant.

Overall a great experience.

Delmonico's is a piece of NYC history near Wall Street. Happily, the restaurant's styleand decor preserve that history. We were there on a weekday. The ambiance was old school although noisy. We were in the main dining room, there are several other areas as well. Happily there is no background music to add to the cacaphony. We were waited upon immediately, and service was quick but not hurried. The waiter was excellent, both formal and friendly ---- but we decided the pepper guy was paid by the pound...he reached over and peppered my shortribs although I said no pepper please, then ARGUED with my companion, promised to replace the food if she didn't like the pepper...and once again reached over her against her consent to pepper the food GENEROUSLY. The Lobster Bisque had a strange gummy texture and beefy flavor. The seafood risotto was excellent. The steak and potatoes were classic and perfection -- if you go there stick to the steak - it's their forte. The 18 hour braised short ribs were surprisingly not tender, and the squash grits were unseasoned .The winter greens consisted of a few leaves scattered atop the short ribs. The overall result was slightly bland. The Baked Alaska was generously portioned, handsome, and delicious with walnut cake, a lemon syrup on the cake, and vanilla ice cream with apricot coulis on the plate. Unlike others I've had, the meringue was cold rather than just out of the broiler, and had a marshmallow texture. The raspberry topped cheesecake was a small, moist, round cheesecake with a fresh blackberry sitting atop it.
