dell'anima means "of the soul" in Italian and the food features hearty, eloquent dishes of thoughtful simplicity. Our menu offerings change daily, and we use local, seasonal, sustainably harvested produce where possible. Our menu features a selection of pastas made in-house daily, traditional dishes rarely found outside of Italy, and Italian-inspired creations that are of Thompson's own invention. Our wine list features an array of small production, high-quality selections with an emphasis on traditional and natural winemaking. Over 200 hand-chosen wines are selected for flavor, uniqueness and tradition. dell'anima is open weekend brunch and dinner daily. Reservations are recommended but we accept many walk-ins.

This was my second visit to Dell'Anima, and it hit a home run once again! It's a small restaurant and tables are very close together. That being said, it has the feel of a cozy neighborhood trattoria. And the food is fantastic! If you're a fan of carbonara, you MUST try Dell'Anima's deconstructed version where you mix everything together yourself on your plate, including the raw egg. The cheese and speck that they use in their version give it a very unique flavor. Also enjoyed their crispy branzino braised in citrus juices with olives. One of the best branzinos I've ever eaten. I highly recommend Dell'Anima to anyone who loves creative Italian cuisine.
After having a meal here 6 years ago, we came back for our 5 year wedding anniversary. The food was even better than we remembered. The staff was extremely helpful and even with a small misstep in forgetting to place our appetizer order, they very quickly took care of the mistake and had the food out to us. Thanks for a memorable night and full stomachs.
We were in NYC for two days and looking for a good Italian restaurant. This was a great choice! The lily confit bruschetta was garlicky goodness. The bone marrow dish was rich and delicious. The pasta was delicious- just chewy enough and each version was its own delight: the bucatini arrabiatta was pleasantly spicy and the bolognese was meaty. Four of us shared the carmelized tapioca with Concord grape gelato which was enough for 3-4 bites each and a smooth, fresh finish to a wonderful meal. The service was there magically whenever needed. It was quite noisy when we got there at 8:30pm (we were seated immediately) until around 10pm (weeknight) when things quieted down.
I was so pleased that I was able to get a reservation here to enjoy a fabulous Sunday night meal with our adult daughter. The pasta is a must, rarely have I had pasta that was clearly homemade with a simple spicy tomato sauce with perfect balance between the tomatoes and spice. Our waitress was very attentive and extremely helpful with suggestion. My biggest complaint is how hard it is to get reservation both here and at it's sister restaurant.
Was referred here by a bar tender and it was excellent. Our server was attentive and made excellent recommendations. The portions are just the right size so that you can enjoy dessert and coffee afterwards and not feel stuffed. The Bolognese sauce was about the best I've tasted and the Rum-Almond cake was out of this world. Highly recommend this cozy restaurant.
Very disappointed with the long wait time. Had to wait about 25 minutes for the table that had finished eating and would not leave. Management did nothing about it and when asked if they would we were told that is not how the restaurant operates. Very small restaurant and patrons knew we were standing, basically waiting for them to leave. They had paid for food and were just hanging out. It was a bit passive aggressive from the customer and total disregard from for us who were waiting around for 25 minutes for them to leave. Didn’t even offer a drink or something to smooth the transition.
We went to celebrate my daughter's birthday and had a nice dinner up until the end. We had appetizers, entrees, drinks and a bottle of wine. We ordered a dessert which came with 2 biscotti, which were very good. When we asked our waitress for 2 extra biscotti she said she would have to charge us $2 per biscotti if we wanted an extra. After we spent a lot of money on our dinner they were nickel and dimeing us. This is not how a restaurant of this caliber should operate. We have been here before and enjoyed it...but never again. This is not how you treat customers!!!
Really outstanding food. Not run of the mill Italian at all. A nice sense of adventure in the menu with some items I've never seen before. Terrific wine list that goes up to "way out of my budget" territory.
Service was terrific - prompt, knowledgeable and informative.
Overrated and overpriced. Waiter seemed annoyed by my presence. Very cute restaurant in charming party of town. Food was fine, but nothing spectacular. I had an arugula salad, 2 glasses of wine, bruschetta and split the risotto with my friend. Will not return. Too many other options in NYC.
I loved every minute of our experience here. Took my team there for a celebratory dinner. No one had ever been. Food was amazing, as per the usual. Pastas to die for. Service was great. The roasted chicken is amazing. We ordered way too much food and then had to pack to go. I specifically asked for the jus from the chicken to be packed to go- that is one of the best parts of that dish- no problem said the server. I did not check the box when it was passed to me. Got home and low and be hold all of that wonderful jus was no where to be found. SUPER disappointed that is how our meal ended. What a total waste. Can't believe whomever packed the food to go would even consider throwing that jus out! Definitely tainted what otherwise was a wonderful meal.
I booked this restaurant for my girlfriend's birthday and it was a hit! The food was absolutely delicious. There were four of us and we all ordered individually, but shared family style and there wasn't one bad bite. We cleaned our plates and let nothing go to waste. The pasta was so fresh and kept us wanting more. All around an amazing experience with ambiance, waiting staff and the delicious food. Definitely a restaurant to keep on our list when we're back visiting NY.
It's really overpriced place. They have open kitchen so you can see how they cook but also you will be sitting in a smoke after when they frying food.
In the end of the dinner we wanted to have another glass of wine but they recommended to go to the bar next door because table was reserved for later time. This fact was the last drop plus to all my clothes and hair smells like a fryed fish. Overall, waiter was really professional and nice.
I was very excited that I finally got a reservation at Dell'anima, even though it was for 5:45 on Labor Day Weekend. We had a lovely outdoor table but right away our waitress was sullen and interested in being there. She couldn't describe the dishes or make any recommendations. The appetizers were wonderful, we had the charred octopus salad and my wife had the arugula salad and asked for some sliced tomatoes. The waitress said "we will see" and charged us $4.00 for a slice of tomato that she she didn't forewarn us. The table next to us had a pasta dish that looked good, so I ordered a similar dish, however, while very tasty, it came in a small bowl and was 1/4 full. We have been to their other restaurants and loved L'artusi but this was a real disappointment. Fortunately there was a good coffee shop around the corner so I didn't have to go home hungry.
