Del Posto is one of the best special occasion restaurants in New York City. Think of it like a more upscale Babbo, or Daniel with pasta.
Awesome all good nothing to say but awesome.
The ambiance was spectacular as was the service. However, many of the courses were bland and in the case of the veal tonnato and the heritage pork flavorless.
The wine list is overpriced. We ordered by the glass which proved more interesting and less expensive unless you go for their new reserve list where a 3 or 6 oz. glass of wine can be upwards of $100 and not less than $88. You can buy the bottle in a good shop for the same amount. As to the bottled wine list we were offended to be offered a less expensive varietal for five times the price as retail in a good wine shop. I felt as though they were daring me to order!
Overall, the bill was close to $600 for 2. It should have been much better.
Nice ambience, food options, complimentary appetizer, desert, chocolates, cookies. My chocolate Budida desert was good but very normal. My husbands pistachio desert was amazing. Lamb chops were great, lobster was amazing. There was a long wait before desert which could be avoided.
We had the Captains Tasting menu, I am dairy free and no red meat and they accommodated that very well. Everything was about the attention to detail. I even had a stool to rest my purse upon!
The service was lovely, attentive and not the least bit stuffy.
Drinks are a bit pricy, so which out for the drinks bill!
Overall we spent 3 hours there and we enjoyed every minute!
Impeccable food and service. Has clearly earned its strong reputation and Michelin star
Over 1/2 hour wait between the two pastas?
As for the wine pairing ,,,, they might have well just used shot glasses ( the servings were so small)
Food was not impressive. We already told the waiter we don't like lambs and wanted more seafood but still got a lot of goat/sheep cheese dishes for the captain menu. We should have decided what we wanted to order ourselves and not let the waiter designed for us. Not enjoyable for mother's day dinner.
Took the family for Mother’s Day and it was beautiful. Food, wine and service was superb. A bit expensive but worth it for a special occasion. Will be back again.
Was here for Mothers day. I was quite disappointed with the food. I always ask for food to come out hot. But the food came out cold. Our pasta was cold so much so that that you could see the butter on it turning back to a solid. My lamb chops came out cold and I had to send it back. It came out a second time and was still cold. I was quite disappointed.
The meal was truly a culinary experience from the moment we sat down. We chose the 5 course menu, which was actually a very good amount of food, leaving both my wife and I perfectly content and ready for our Broadway show.
There are surprises at the beginning and the end of the meal that provide wonderful surprises with tastes that are truly unique and extraordinary.
My wife and I are huge fans of Carne Vino, another Mario Batali restaurant, located in the Palazzo in Las Vegas. The culinary experience there was our favorite, until we dined at Del Posto. This was our ultimate food experience. Mahalo for everything!
My favorite place to dine! Perfection every time!
This was the best dinner we ever had!! We will come back the next time we are in New York. The service and food was excellent. The wine pairing was excellent, Evan the Wine Director picked a perfect bottle of wine for us. This was an amazing experience and we enjoyed every minute of it. Debbie our waitress was very friendly and extremely helpful with our questions. Thank you Del Posto for making our anniversary very special. We will never forget our evening and we are bringing home special memories.
Went for combination of birthday and anniversary celebration. The staff greeted us with congratulations on our anniversary, from the maitre to the young lady who served us our water.
All throughout the service was impeccable, not a single flaw. Food was amazing, especially the pasta with rabbit sausage and the lobster appetizer. The room was lovely as ever, candlelit staircase is breathtaking. Ambiance with live piano also a plus.
Mu second time here and it certainly will not be my last. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
They stayed late to accommodate our very late party of seven and it was absolutely amazing. Every course, the wine list, service was all an unforgettable experience.
Had the 8 course Captains dinner (where they ask a few questions then surprise you with varying tastings) there for my bday recently. Had been when restaurant first open years ago. Wasn’t impressed with food then and wasn’t impressed now.
First the good. The space is gorgeous if a bit cold given its vastness. They compensate with great lighting and wonderful piano player. The service is also impeccable. But feels more adequate for a Tea service than having an Italian meal.
The not so good - the food. The only thing that was a wow is the bread and cream/burrata offering and the pasta with sea urchin. The rest was very predictable, nothing original with average plating and with no particularly special ingredients- no lobster, no caviar, no truffles. Nothing.
Which gets me to the bad - $600 for dinner for 2 and two cocktails with average food and no wow ingredients is not what we had expected.
So, given somewhat pretentious service, average food and high cost, we won’t be returning or recommending.
Top 5 in NYC! Excellent meal! Inventive and perfectly executed! We got the captain’s tasting menu and let the chef and cooks do their thing. Restaurant is beautiful and not too loud yet not too quiet. The cocktails and wine list are great. True hospitality professionals here. Had a 10:15 Saturday night reservation. I was expecting a great meal and got better than that. This restaurant is damn close to if not already joining the ranks of Le Bernadin, Bouley, and Daniel. I will be back.
Everything from the food to the staff to the decor was wonderful! We went for our 8th anniversary and we were treated like royalty! We will for certain be back!
Excellent food as usual. Really expensive so it is not for every week
As good as it gets for fine dining in NYC. Impeccable service, stylish food in a beautiful dining room.
Excellence all around. Terrific value for a one-star Michelin, a three-hour lunch for 59 bucks a person.
Most tables empty, no ambiance.. food mediocre
It was so good, we made another reservation a couple days later to eat there again. The experience was wonderful.
Took my boyfriend there to celebrate his 50th birthday and it was a truly outstanding and once in a lifetime experience. Magnificent food, excellent service and ambiance. If you want to truly splurge and feel like royalty while enjoying some of the best modern Italian cuisine in NYC this is the only spot you should be looking at.
Fabulous! Our favorite restaurant anywhere!
the ambiance makes dates night special! food was incredible. i'd recommend the 5 course menu
Managers awesome. Captain awesome. Back waiters phenomenal! Vegan Tasting menu superb! Best date night in ages.
Came here to celebrate surviving law school, and could not have chosen a better place.
We opted for the Captain's Menu, with 8 courses tailored to the table. Each course was nothing short of divine. There isn't enough words to adequately talk about how enjoyable everything was.
For the pastas, we had a black truffle pasta, which was $20 extra per head. It was $20 amazingly spent. The black truffle butter was rich without being sickening; the truffle flavor was so vibrant; the pasta just melted in your mouth. If that is an option, get it.
Service is also fantastic. The sommelier selected three wines for us, after asking what we preferred. Our server explained the menu choices with great detail.
Dinner here is an experience, and one I highly highly recommend.
Have you ever been to a place you are just dying to go back to? This is it...the food was beyond amazing!! The service was just as spectacular as the food! I was just blown away with this type of overall excellence! The flavors of everything were beyond anything I had ever expected... the cocktails were flavorful and perfectly concocted! With every bite of our 5 course meal I melted in delight! In my opinion this is the best restaurant in the city...
I wish I could give this gorgeous restaurant 5 stars for the food. It’s arguably the most beautiful dining room in NYC and the service is stellar. The food, however, is always a bit of a let down. The pastas are lovely but I have been consistently disappointed with the main offerings. I have dined here on several occasions but will skip the chef’s tasting next time and stick with what they do best...pasta.
Nice dining experience
Very dark. Could not understand our waiter. Had to wait for a table even with a reservation and many empty tables. Enjoyed the wine pairing and most of the dinner courses. Very special but not quite five stars.
Del Posto is in the Meatpacking district of NYC. It was a bit far from our hotel and in what appeared to be a very industrial part of NYC. The atmosphere was very dark, serious, and gold. The lighting was so dim that I could not read my menu even under the lamp. I had to ask for a light in order to see, but they didn't have anything. They brought another lit candle to use and this was awkward. We were only offered 3 different prix fixe menus that were quite expensive. We felt pressured by our server to choose the most expensive (8 courses), and to choose the wine pairings which were an additional expensive cost. When we told the waiter that we wanted the 5 course option we were made to feel like we were not making a good choice, as he said, " It is not a problem". We did not order the wine pairings, because 5 glasses of wine, was not of interest to us. We ordered a single glass of wine which was adequate for our needs, but again made to feel like we were making an error. We had to ask if there was a wine menu as nothing was offered to us. The food was good, the salad and pastas were delicious, but my entree and dessert were just ok. Although this was a special occasion dinner, it was not worth the over $500 price tag (including tip). Other than feeling pressure as to what to order, the service was impeccable, but there was a different server for each course which may explain why they must charge so much. I have never seen so many servers in one restaurant. I have dined at many upscale restaurants, including Michelin Star restaurants and we have paid high price tags before, but this particular experience was not worth it.
Great food and atmosphere. Service was also wonderful.
Birthday very nice. This is one of the most expensive restaurants I have ever eaten in. Worth every penny if your a foodie.
The service was good, exactly what you expect in a Michelin star restaurant. However, the food was just plain bad. My branzino was dry and over cooked, the Arctic char was tasteless. Appetizers were very boring and uninspired. Pasta was okay but not worth coming. I refused the desert.
I tried a great number of Michelin restaurants in New York and world wide. I really don’t understand why this restaurant gets such a good rating on OT?!
Absolutely amazing dining experience. Very special service without being overly stuffy or formal. The food is perfection.
Amazing! Loved the bread service, wonderful desserts!
As usual, a great experience. We had a vegan with us who was delighted with the vegan options. Indeed, I would have eaten most of it myself!
