Del Mar Rendezvous
Sesame Crusted Seared Ahi*
sushi grade ahi, seared on the outside and raw through the center; covered in a wasabi aioli dressing and laid over a bed of spring mix lettuce with Rendezvous' house vinaigrette
Kung Pao Pork Tenderloin
8 oz of tender pork marinated for four hours, pan fried, then roasted; served over sautéed green beans and in a caramelized hoisin and chili paste sauce with grilled onions on top
Egg Flower Soup
egg in a vegetable soup broth; made fresh daily
This was a frustrating dining experience. We went specifically because of the numerous vegan options but arrived to a "limited Mother's Day menu" which was not disclosed in our reservation. The only vegan options were tofu. I hate tofu. After an enormous level of arm twisting, the chef agreed to substitute eggplant for the tofu. I'm not sure if the issue was the server or the chef. We didn't talk to the chef. Once the food came, it was delicious. But felt like I had to give up a kidney to get the guy to use eggplant instead of tofu. I gave a poor rating for ambience and noise because we were startled out of conversation numerous times by the insane buzzing of motorcycles that cruise the street and we had to eat outside (this is after indoor dining was allowed, but for some reason they weren't using their indoor dining). The motorcycles are not the fault of the restaurant, but to have been closed for a year and still not be ready for indoor diners was a bummer.
Our food and service (Angelica) were excellent. Highly recommend.
We go all the time. This time food not quite me. Maybe anew cook?
Food always good
Service a little all over the place
Forgot one item and then brought it later
Maybe short staffed that night
The food at this restaurant is delicious and there are lots of wonderful choices. The place was crowded on Friday night and the wait staff seemed rushed and not that pleasant. I have had lunch at Rendezvous and did not feel that way about the staff.
Great food and friendly service. nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
The food here is amazing. High quality, great flavors. Have been coming here for years & will continue to do so!
The service was terrible. We repeatedly needed to ask for items including napkins, utensils, and our bill. There was no reason for the poor service since we were the only table in the restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. The meals were expensive for the quality and quantity. I will but frequent this establishment again.
Great food and probably best selection of items on the menu
Rendezvous was excellent, as always. Spirited and friendly service, generous portions, and high quality, interesting ingredients, made this a most enjoyable Valentine’s experience. The Prix Fixe choices offered good variety, and it really could not have been better. This is consistently a go-to place.
I just returned from Del Mar Rendezvous after taking my husband and kids there for my husband's birthday. I made reservations for lunch for 12:45 pm. When we arrived no one was at the hostess stand so we waiting there for about 10 minutes. We sat down and waited another 10 - 15 minutes for anyone to come by and even offer drinks. The appetizers arrived at 1:45 pm (a full hour after our reservation). It was highly disappointing. My husband was not happy with his dish, however the other food was okay. Here's the thing, there are a plethora of good restaurants in this area. So average food, less than average ambiance and terrible service should not make the cut. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
This place never disappoints. We always get the Seafood Pad Thai and it is delicious. This was our first trip for lunch and we order the Kung Pow Beef (made with filets) and Cashew Chicken - both were amazing and came with a side salad that was a pleasant surprise and added to our experience. Always have had great service here also. Wonderful Valentines Day outing.
This is one of our favorite local spots, especially great if you are looking for vegetarian dishes. The food is terrific, excellent value, dog friendly patio, and really nice people.
Excellent food & service!
The food (Kung Pao chicken) was quite good and the service prompt and friendly. Sitting at an outside table, soaking in the ambience and vibes of Del Mar was just an added bonus. The prices are a bit on the high side but, well, it is Del Mar.
Food is delicious and they have a full on vegan menu which also very good. Service a bit slow when we were there but the servers were great and apologetic
We have been here before and will return. Food is very good and so is location. We have sat inside and outside and both are great depending on weather and your preference. There is a covered patio and heat lamps. Good wine selection.
Food was average Chinese American, but quite expensive... $22 for Pad Thai.
We arrived at 5:30 pm, one of the first tables, and ordered right away. It took over an hour to receive our food. Granted, several employees apologized and said they were swamped with take out orders. I would think the customers on site would have priority over new take out orders! Not acceptable. The food was ok, but nothing social. We would not go again.
Food is always good here, and $15 bottles of wine for lunch. Two of us had ribs, ahi and crispy duck wraps. A perfect meal!
The place is small but setup fairly nicely. The service was also decent but oh man the food was terrible. It’s like Panda Express food, fried, greasy and dunked in sauces with no flavor of it’s own. But you pay Del Mar prices for that. Not going back for sure
We are regulars at Rendezvouz, it was perfect as always.
It is always great food at Rendezvous, but if you are going to pack your restaurant, have enough servers and cooks to keep up with it!
Heard wonderful reviews of Rendezvous - and it was mostly true! Delicious food, good service and reasonable prices. My main concern was the lack of working outdoor heaters. At 55 degrees, it’s too cold to offer outdoor seating with no heaters. They did offer pull down plastic windows but it was really still too cold to enjoy our meal. My suggestion is to be sure to ask to be seated by working heaters (there were only a few) before dining outside.
It is always such a delightful dinner experience -- love grazing and trying different dishes. So happy they didn't change their menu -- it's the best!
Last minute change to their New Year’s Eve menu, limited choices and two courses for $55 each. Food was good and plentiful but not worth it. Bathroom was dirty and toilet didn’t flush. Servers were very nice. A bit of a wait because they were so busy and looked understaffed. Setting was nice. All considered, Won’t go back there.
The food was inedible and it was so overpriced, even for Christmas. Service was super slow even though the place was empty
Dissapointed to find only expensive prix fix menu available
Simply the best!
It’s over-rated. The food are not that authentic.
I think we caught them on a bad night. Overheard that a couple of their employees had called in sick that evening.
Food was slow out of the kitchen and timing was off. The items were lukewarm at best which was disappointing.
Food quality was good although a tad on the bland side, odd for Chinese food.
Will give them another try in a couple of weeks or so.
Great food but below average service.
Always a good experience, sometimes hard to get a good seat because of the smallness of the restaurant but always good food, good service, good everything!
We chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration because of their awesome seared ahi, a favorite of the birthday celebrant. Sadly, it was sold out. Our wine choices (one white and one red) were also sold out and we had to come up with alternative choices. The food we did get (and shared), was delicious. We especially liked the Pungent Chicken and the Pad Thai. We had a good time despite the initial disappointments.
Used to be a favorite, but should have known something had changed because all time slots were available for reservation. Too bad, but really poor experience. All four dishes were awful. Hope they can bring it back.
Loved it! We went at a busy time but we were in no rush. Always happy about going here.
Delicious varied food ! They have numerous gluten free items, dedicated pages of vegetarian options, delicious traditional Asian dishes , wine menu could improve but not by a much the only downside - it’s pricey .
Service was pleasant and friendly .
Search for coupons but if not , you’ll still enjoy .
Everything is always wonderful here. They take very good care of us and remember our favorites.
Food was so fresh. FINALLY, a chinese restaurant, in San Diego, with chinese food that is comparable to SFO's quality and authenticity.
Great! From the easy ordering to quick service, the best dinner out recently.
