We were a party of nine, and Del Mar is one of the few restaurants in town that can easily accommodate a large group like ours. Although very pricey, the food was excellent and the service was very good. I only have one complaint. As expected, a gratuity of 20% was automatically added to our bill. I understand and accept that - we were, after all a large group and it is customary at most restaurants to automatically charge a 20% gratuity for a large group. When it came time to pay, the server brought a portable card scanning device. She inserted the card and then handed the device to me. The first screen on the device presented an option to add a tip. I verified with her that a 20% gratuity had already been included, and she confirmed that but then went on to say that this gives me the opportunity to add "something extra" if I was especially pleased with the service. I selected "No Tip" and signed. I immediately sensed a change in her tone of voice as she thanked me. She did not seem pleased that I was not extra generous with my tipping. In my opinion, there is no reason for asking for additional tip money when 20% has already been charged on a very large tab. Especially in a scenario where the server is standing right there and is able to immediately react to the tip selection the customer makes.

The vibe is west coast, elegance and beautiful. Brunch was delicious and I definitely recommend if you’re in the area and want to try something different.

Kate was an excellent server! The food was great & so was the atmosphere. We will be back next week! Enjoyed our cocktails/mocktails too. Thank you. This was dining the way it was meant to be.

Love this atmosphere and food. However this is the 2nd time the service has not been good. Waited 20 min for a glass of Prosecco. And waited again to order food. We felt forgotten. After 6 visits we will wait awhile to return

We have been to Del Mar on several occasions and the food and service have always been good, if not great. On this occasion, which was my 22nd wedding anniversary the experience was nowhere near good, let alone great. We waited 10-12 minutes before seeing our server. I ordered sparkling water, which our server forgot, so I sat drink-less for another 10 minutes. Upon ordered our apps (caramelized onion bread and oysters) our server asked if we also wanted to order our main course and we said “no”. Once our apps came out we didn’t see our server again for quite some time. At that point we decided to finish our dinner somewhere else. We asked for the check when she finally came back around. She offered us our free anniversary dessert, which we accepted. The food was very good. We love the caramelized onion loaf and the cake was delicious. Not sure we will be coming back anytime soon. Disappointing for a Cameron Mitchell restaurant.

The food is excellent. We had dinner reservations at 5:30pm on a Friday. We were sat upstairs, and you cannot get any happy hour specials/prices upstairs. Not sure why it has to be different if you are seated upstairs.
