Del Frisco's Grille - NYC Ratings and Reviews
As expected the steaks were great. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed them. This was her first visit to a Del Frisco’s restaurant. We decided to have dinner there after seeing the matinee of Wicked in NYC.
The one issue I had was with the side dish of Chargrilled Broccolini. The dish needed to be cooked more for my liking. The stalks of the Broccolini were way too hard. My wife took a bite and chose not to eat any more. I guess I could have sent them back, but did not.
I really wanted her to have a great experience for her first visit. We’ll try again one day.
My husband and I were looking forward to a quiet steak dinner with good service on our last night in the city. I had been to the other Del Frisco’s a few blocks away many years ago for work and thought it might be a similar experience, although slightly more casual. Instead, it was very loud and hard to hear each other. The food was mediocre. Both of our steaks were undercooked from what we ordered. My salad was drinched in dressing and the dressing was overpowering in flavor. Overall, a very disappointing meal for one of the better known New York steakhouses.
We made last minute reservations (literally, 30 minutes before res time) after a show. The filet was great and cooked just as expected- no need to send any (4) back. The waiter was fantastic as was the manager who gave us a piece of their amazing lemon cake on the house since we are veterans and it was Veteran's Day! They also contribute to a charity for wounded warriors. High-five for that!!
The food was good and so was the service. However, I believe the drink I ordered, a manhattan, was spiked with some type of drug. After finishing one drink I was unable to function. This was not my first manhattan so I know the difference between being lightly buzzed and being unable to walk normally, speak, see, etc. We were heading to opening night for Rockettes Christmas Spectacular so just kept going. This evening was ruined for me and I hope the restaurant is mindful of some suspicious behavior that, I am sure, was going on behind the bar.
Del Frisco's Grille is a perfectly reasonable lunch place for Midtown. Pricing is reasonable within the context of location and clientele. I found the experience to be much better than the parent steakhouse on Sixth, which is no better than a Capital Grille or other standard issue steakhouse. Service was friendly, and reasonable, but some noticeable missteps included asking for a coffee that came out cold (have never seen that ever) and the ongoing habit of NYC restaurant wait staff removing your plate the moment you finish, even if your guest is still eating. I am not sure if this phenomena is based on incompetence or moving the table along, but in either case it is not great. Food was very good, however, with a tasty (but overpriced) fish taco and excellent steak salad. Overall, much preferable to the main chain, but not a supremely satisfying experience. Perfectly fine would sum it up best.
Returned to Del Frisco’s grill for dinner for one. Excellent food and wine. The soup was delicious and not too large a portion. The seared tuna with noodles was also excellent and a generous portion. The place never disappoints so next time I am near Rockefeller I will be dining there.
