Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steak House - Boston Ratings and Reviews
Having been here several times in the past, our favorite Boston steakhouse disappointed tonight, despite knowing it was my girlfriend's birthday. The stone crab was not well-cracked (irretrievable from the shell on 2/3 claws), and when this was pointed out, they didn't remedy the problem but instead gave us a lobster cracker (?!?). The oysters were not well-shucked. The sommelier provided a great recommendation, but actually suggested that he wouldn't be upset if we offered to share a glass (which we often do, but not when it's suggested up front). The waitress completely disappeared after our entrees. And while the complimentary birthday dessert was appreciated, not even offering the menu seemed presumptuous. Next time we drop four figures on a great dinner, I have to admit reservations about this being our first choice.
I suggest you make a reservation. When you arrive, have a cocktail at the bar. The level of service you receive here is top notch from the moment you walk in to the moment you exit. Beautiful way to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you Sean or Shawn at the bar. Thank you Elissa Pablo for the ultimate experience.
I am in total disbelief with my experience here this time around. Our reservation was at 8:15 pm and didn’t get seated til 8:45 pm. I feel if we arrived at 8:45 pm for an 8:15 pm reservation we wouldn’t get serviced. We were here for my brother’s birthday. We ordered drinks that took 15 mins to arrive after ordering. We ordered 2 apps and that took 30 mins to arrive. After ordering our side dishes and steak it took 45 mins to arrive. We ordered more drinks and that took about another 20 Mins. They cleared our dishes and brought dessert plates out and we were sitting there for 20 Mins without the dessert. We were sitting there so hungry we just inhaled our food and couldn’t relax and just enjoy it. There was a table of 5 next to us that were getting serviced beautifully, I’m just confused and disappointed as to why the service was so horrendous for us this time. The server seemed like he didn’t want anything to do with us. This was a favorite place of mine and now I’m so mind blown that I wouldn’t come here for a special occasion again.
Although the table was reserved we had to wait about 10 minutes in a busy area before being seated. It seemed like no one really knew what was happening.
The sommelier was interested in advising, but veering toward more expensive wines.
The steaks were great, cooked exactly as requested. The sides were nearly cold !!
It was a pity because we were expecting better. The manager apologized for the poor service (very slow) and did not charge for the sides.
The deserts were OK but not exciting in any way.
The room needs some acoustic help! As designers ourselves we understand the challenge. The staff even found it difficult to hear us.
All together makes for a strong three star outcome.
The noise level in the dining room was SIGNIFICANTLY above what it needed to be to have a conversation without shouting across our two-person table (I could not imagine trying to have a conversation across one of the 8-person tables). We went for a romantic anniversary dinner and were significantly disappointed that conversation was futile and quiet happened only when we stepped out of the restaurant. The food quality and service were terrific. I would have like to know that it was not a place for a quiet, romantic dinner.
The atmosphere and ambiance were outstanding. The waitress was attentive and pretty friendly, although every request for a recommendation was met with the most expensive option. My steak was supposed to be med-rare, "I'd like to see some blood on the plate after I eat" and was much closer to medium. My girlfriend's seared Tuna was very good. The prices are much more standout than the quality of the food. The cheesecake was amazing though. I chalked it up to paying for the view. I will probably go back at some point.
This was the 3rd time that I dined at Del Frisco's and it may be my last. Reservations were for 9 pm on a Thursday evening so the restaurant wasn't very busy. Server was good but abruptly ran through the specials and didn't ask if there were any questions. Sommelier reviewed wine selections and suggested a wine which turned out to be OK. Calamari, wedge salad, and Caesar salad were all very good. Things took a turn for the worst when the steaks were served. All significantly undercooked. I requested a dry aged ribeye ($65) cooked medium and the steak was seared on the outside and raw in the middle. Another steak (fillet) was ordered medium rare and came out raw in the middle. Both steaks were returned. Ribeye came back medium and fillet came back rare. Decided against sending fillet back a second time and diner just ate the outer parts. Manager was attentive and apologetic. Manager offered up an additional side dish at no cost but I had lost my appetite by then. Ultimately, all the food was removed from the bill and only the wine was charged. While this was a reasonable response to the situation, the manager should have considered providing a gift certificate for a future dining experience in the hopes that I would return and give them another chance. In summary, it was a very disappointing experience at an expensive steak house.
We had been to Del Frisco's a number of times before, so I didn't think that a group of 9 ( my cousins and I ) was going to be any great problem. WRONG. Let me say at the outset, the food is great but waiting over 1 hour and 15 minutes (since we last saw our server) to get our food was not. I finally had to get up ( after my family kept asking where the food was) and spoke to the manager. I was polite but clear...this was unacceptable. Erica, our server, was quick with the drink orders and the appetizer orders. They did come relatively quickly...comparatively. But the wait for the entrees was interminable. Yes, they comped some of the liquor...Honestly, this is bush league service considering the hefty price tag that comes with the visit. Not going back...unless I have 3 hours to waste.
I have been to Del Frisco's several times and have always enjoyed the food and the experience. This time, I had a reservation at 8pm and requested a table in the bar area. We had to wait until after 8:30p before getting seated and going to the hostess twice. When we were seated, it was not in the bar area......that was disappointing. The food was great except for the NY Strip Steak....hard to cut even with the steak knife. Service was extremely SLOW. It was a birthday celebration and we had a limo waiting for us. Like I said, we did not get seated until after 8:30 and did not finish until 11:30. Three hours for five people was a bit ridiculous!! We did not get to enjoy the evening as planned. Disappointed in Del Frisco's.
Decent food but the service was horrible. Felt like they were basically throwing the food at me. When I was done eating I still had half a filet and crqbmeat - the helper started piling other things on my plate without even asking if I wanted anything wrapped up - which I did. After they put the bottoms of plates on top of my food that idea was ruined. So They basically wasted half my new.
My steak was unedible and they didn’t offer to prepare a new one. Our bill was over a thousand dollars (5 people) and when asked to have the steak removed from the bill I was told “sorry sir we can’t do that - the ribeye has more fat then you may be used to”. I told them I thought that was a very bad choice and left it at that. Until last night I was a frequent Del Frisco diner and took many business lunches/dinners there in multiple cities. I’m done and will never go back.
Went for an extended family get together. The food and service were spectacular; all aspects of the me were beautifully and seamlessly orchestrated. The service was impeccable; available, but not hovering. The sommelier was educated, creative, and took a genuine interest in finding a bottle that suited our meal and price range. The only complaint was the noise level, for some reason both the music and surrounding tables were very lively and pretty loud; not typical of Del Friscos. Overall it was a wonderful wonderful meal top to bottom. Del Frisco’s once again delivered a phenomenal evening to me and my family.
Reservation made long in advance, and confirmed by phone that morning. They were not ready for our party of 6. The place was maybe 10% full and they tried to seat us at a high top. We asked for a regular table and then they tried to put us at a booth which was ridiculously tight. We asked for a regular table and were finally seated at an appropriate table. It took a long time to get our food. Five of us got our meals at the same time. One (a wrap sandwich) was delayed, as were the two salads that accompanies two of the means. At that point the restaurant couldn't have been more than 20% full. Not well managed. But a nice view of the harbor.
