Been coming here for many years. Always a good time.
Food was average at best, manager was terrible and dismissive. Restaurant "requires" doors to remain open after a certain time to card people which left a portion of the dining room open to the cold. Food quickly got cold and eating with a coat on is not enjoyable. Manager dismissed several customers' concerns and left the dining area leaving wait staff to continually apologize.
First time there for a birthday celebration. Very accommodating and our waiter Kevin was great.
Always a good time at the Deer Park. Not quite family yet if they seat you in the bar area but the food was delicious for all plates we got.
Great food, extensive menu. Can't go wrong with wings and a farmhouse burger
The Deer Park is an iconic Newark, Delaware with interesting history. It’s a great spot for dinner or lunch with libations.
Server was great. Food was not good and was not worth the cost. I ordered the shrimp and grits. Grits very dry and shrimp and sausage was placed on top. My date ordered the hamburger. The burger arrived without any lettuce, tomatoe, ec. Not sure if that’s an additional cost. I would not recommend this place.
Food was decent, service was ok, and the wait staff were very nice.
Local. Down and dirty in the best sense of the phrase. The food was good and the service was speedy. We liked the lively atmosphere.
I spent a lot of Thursday nights at the Deer Park -- 50 years ago when I was an undergrad at Delaware. (We didn't call it UD then.) The food at "The Park" was never the attraction.
Much to my surprise, the food is front and center now. Terrific lunch menu with traditional comfort food, updated standard bar food, and also what some might call "fou-fou food." Think ham sandwich with brie, fig jam, apple slices, and crunchy lettuce. Think YUM!
Also served to our table were a steak sandwich cooked in French onion soup with more soup for dipping, a burger, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everybody loved their choice. We did think the traditional french fries were better than the "hand cut" fries; the latter were not really crispy. Two desserts were a hit: the brownie sundae and the no-flour chocolate cake.
Extensive list of beers on tap, and interesting-sounding cocktails.
It's 45 minutes from us, so I won't say we'll make a special trip. But if we're ever in Newark at mealtime, we'd definitely consider heading back to the Deer Park.
We were there for brunch on U. Del Parent's weekend. The restaurant was also hosting a Breast Cancer run. So it was loud and packed. Despite this, they had our table ready with our reservation. The service was great and the food delicious.
We were seated within minutes of our reservation. Waitress very friendly. According to our waitress, the kitchen was backed up which resulted in some delay between drinks and food. Our party was famished. Overall food was very good! All in all a great time with family!
We had an absolutely terrible experience at Deer park this past weekend. We were in town for Parents weekend and booked a reservation at Deer Park for 8:00pm. We arrived very hungry after the Udel football game and were told that our table was ready but the kitchen could not handle all of the food orders and we would have to wait at least 1 hour to order our food! What kind of restaurant takes a reservation and then tells you that you can't order any food! On top of this, they didn't even offer us a free drink or anything to make up for the issue. Our waitress just acted like it was a regular occurrence. If you go on a busy weekend, there is no guarantee you will get to order any food. We will never go there again.
Visited for parent's day at UD. We got there at the perfect time - it got crazy busy about a half hour after we got there. Food was good, service was pretty quick. We were seated right by the front door (even though many other tables were available), which was kind of a pain...especially since we had reservations. Otherwise, a decent evening.
Experience was so good that we returned the next night. Megan was our server both nights and she was excellent.
Great place to take our college age children. We were even able to be seated on a Friday night.
Good food but took 50 min for our meals to arrive.
An OK choice for a quick bite if you like your hamburgers well done. Never mind that you ordered medium rare, as members of our party did on two separate occasions. They still came out well done and inedible.
Not easy getting in as huge '90s party going on upstairs and rope line going down the street for partygoers. But inside we were seated quickly in a fairly quiet spot (despite loud music upstairs) and the service was excellent. We ordered roasted beet salads, a veggie burger and a pulled pork sandwich along with appetizers and drinks, and all was quite delicious. Prices are not bad - for our meals, four beers and two whiskeys the total came to about $90 before tip for four people. I would definitely recommend this place but if you're going on a Saturday night, in this college town, you will do well to get a reservation. I'll definitely be back (but not in '90s regalia!).
The bar/drinking atmosphere was great, however, the food was not great. The chowder & bisque were both flavorless and starchy. The crab dip was decent, but the "loaded" tots we ordered were more like "sprinkled" and dried out. Aside from the dip, the food was not worth the price. We will not be back to eat. 💔
One of my favorite places when I was in college. Traveling by so stopped for dinner. Thursdays are all you can eat wings! Tried a few flavors and all were good!
We had dinner at Deer Park Tavern after moving our son into his dorm at UD. Our server was great. Very friendly, professional and fast. We sat outside, since it was a beautiful evening. There were only a couple of things that made the dinner less than 5 stars: a very loud, long freight train that came through, and a little while later, a large group on Harley Davidsons pulled in. That was pretty minor, though - the train went past quickly, and the motorcycles were only noisy because the group was pulling into the Tavern for dinner. The food was excellent, especially the oysters. I liked that the outside seating is very dog friendly. My son misses our border collie, but he got to pet a couple and two labrador retrievers as well. Overall I give it two thumbs up, and we'll probably be back when we come down for Parents' Weekend.
Our server was great, something on the menu for everyone, the atmosphere was cozy even though the restaurant is huge. We all loved our choices. We were on a college tour for U of Delaware.
Beware the Crab Burger - get description before ordering. Power Wrap was great! French Onion Steak Sandwich was really a French Dip. Waited a while for service, but thereafter, attentive and friendly.
Wonderful Father's Day Brunch! The Bloody Mary bar was fantastic. The live music was an added bonus. We are definitely going back!
Great food and we loved our server , who was very patient with my 2 young kids.
Enjoy the atmosphere of Deer Park! Celebrated my sister's 70th birthday and our server Linda took very good care of our party! Nachos are very tasty!
I went to the University of Delaware many years ago when the Deer Park was just a dive bar with George Thorogood popping in. What a change!
The food is great, and the service is as well. We now make it a point to plan our Sunday breakfasts at the Deer Park after our (2) annual reunion weekends.
Deer Park Tavern with ham, appkes, fig jam was tasty but salty. Shrimp&grits drew praise. In spite of huge crowd,we had excellent friendly service, quick refills on tea, quick check.
Had a chance to meet a friend from college for lunch and decided to go to the Deer Park for old times! It was Tuesday and half price Burger day. The burgers were fantastic! However service was extremely slow. Had to flag someone down to get our order and took a long time to get our food!
Stopped by for lunch to eat a salad and ended up getting their daily special which was half price chicken quesadilla. Food was good. Free popcorn always available which I love. And service was great!
The food was delish, especially the stuffed meatballs. Our server, Skyler had great energy and was very attentive without being overbearing!
I went there for Mother's Day because there was Corn Crab Chowder, which was excellent. I also had the Jambalaya and was very pleased. My husband savored his stuffed hamburger and enjoyed the beer flight.
Mother's day was quiet for us this year. We got to Newark early, walked up and down Main Street and was still a bit too early for our reservation. Due to just two of us I am sure...no problem getting seated early. Our hostess was very nice, our server, awesome and we dined well. Always like a reason to head to Newark and Deer Park is a good one!
Good food... fries were cold which was a bummer but the sandwiches were great. Highly recommend the French onion steak and crab cakes! Don't miss the locally made ice cream!
Had brunch. Food was great. Atmosphere was fun downstairs with live music, unfortunately they stuck us upstairs which was cold, with no atmosphere and bad piped in music. Note to self, request seat downstairs. Upstairs would have been good for a private party. Reservations can be made online which was convenient.
I brought my parents here for brunch and they loved it. They are breakfast snobs so I was a little bit nervous they wouldn't like it but they said it's one of the best breakfast places they have ever been to.
Friendly service, comfortable atmosphere, plenty of options and reasonable prices. Excellent beer menu, too!
Nice place and has a gluten free menu too. Service was very good and pub food very good too. Will definitely return to this great find! I recommend this restaurant.
We ate here for Easter brunch. Portions were a little small but the food was very good and reasonably priced. Very attentive and personable waiter gave great service. Very nice atmosphere and the Bloody Mary Bar was a unique added twist to the dining experience. Definitely would go again.
