A last minute decision to eat out and glad we took the chance. A hidden gem in a neighborhood that is transforming so a little difficult to find and limited parking. Service was good as it as early on a Friday evening and the place was packed before we left. A nice selection of Thai dishes that were all tempting but settled on the lemongrass pork. It was a unique combination of food but wonderfully tasty. Spring roll was finger licking good and the right amount of spice. Pork was nicely seasoned and grilled and accompanied by noodles and a delicious salad of pickled carrots and onions with a beautiful dressing.
I will definitely go back and sample more from the menu as it is worth the trip.
Parking is VERY limited and compact, and we almost couldn't even get through the parking lot because one of the parked cars wasn't pulled into their spot far enough. (You will definitely not be able to park a truck or full size SUV in there.)
Drinks were very disappointing, food was good (the sushi especially), service was...confused? There were a rotation of 3 or 4 different people stopping by throughout our meal. There did not seem to be much distinction between host/hostess, kitchen staff, cook, waiter, etc. Which would be fine, if they were on the same page. For example, we asked if they had hot oil (to add some flavor and spice to a dish) and the woman (who was either hostess or waitress, still not sure) told us they didn't have that. We asked if they had hot sauce, like Sriracha, and she seemed unsure. So I said to just bring "whatever was the spicy red sauce on top of the Kiss Of Fire roll". A minute later another person came out and said that for the dish in question, he thought hot oil would be better than Sriracha. We told him that's what we asked for originally but she apparently didn't know what it was or that they had it. He returned a minute later with some chili oil and warned us it was really spicy so use it sparingly. Several of us tasted it and it was not spicy at all. Not sure what happened there. The red sauce on the Kiss of Fire roll was way spicier than that chili oil.
Also odd, the restroom is in the very back corner hallway that doubles as their storage it seems. To get to the restroom, I had to actually close the kitchen door which was standing open and completely blocking the hallway due to all the boxes piled up against the opposite wall.
Service could be improved, but the food was good enough I would be willing to come back if it wasn't so far away from us. (We were in the area for an event nearby this time.) If we are ever already in the area again, maybe we'll try again.
We went there for lunch with my family for Mothers day. We had 2 adults' and 3 kids in our party. First thing we notices when we reached there was how secluded the location itself is, but when we entered inside it was somewhat more comfortable. Next the menu was mentioning that there is side fried noodles and sweet or unsweet tea with lunch dishes that we were planning to order, but the server mentioned those are for special occasions (which was not mentioned in the menu). Next the food itself was okay not that great compared to other Thai restaurants we have been to. Finally when the bill came I was shocked they added a gratuity by default for 18% for a family of 5 which is absurd in itself. So in a nutshell we went for celebrating mothers day but was disappointed by the hospitality as well as their not so open attitudes on what is written in menu not honored and hidden gratuity without being told upfront. Also the plates that we got initially were not cleaned properly and also there were no replacement plates at that time.
Amazing food! Great staff
Service was very good towards the end with manager/owner. Food was pretty good too!
This was my first visit and I went on the recommendation of a friend who dined with me. The server brought our appetizers and was not wearing a mask. I also watched him prep food without a mask. Considering Mecklenburg County is a COVID19 hotspot I was surprised. I couldn't eat my meal. I took it and discarded when I got back to the hotel.
We can’t wait for COVID-19 to be gone, then we can experience DJ Thai in its original setting again!!! It’s strange to sit outside with no music, no ambiance, in a self-serve environment. I think they could improve this considering what other restaurants have done with improvised outdoor seating. The food is still great, but, until things go back to normal, we’re gonna do take out only with DJ Thai.
Experience was perfect from start to finish. Food was amazing. Can’t wait to go back.
It was my first time visiting this location. I can't say enough about the staff. They allowed me to adjust my reservation from 6 people to 7, even on a busy night (Valentine's Day) with no issues. They even suprised us by hanging up a "Happy Birthday" banner since I included the fact it was my friends birthday on the reservation. The food was all good - I had the Lemongrass pork. Drinks were unique (cocktails that included Sake) I will be back to try the sushi.
