Service was beyond bad but the food is delicious
I took a friend here, telling her how great the 'starters' were, especially the brussel sprouts and salads. It was all just terrible. What the hell happened to you? I had gotten hooked on Declarations at their other location (in Northeast?) and the first time I went to the Navy Yard location, I was not disappointed. But between then and this past Friday night, the food went totally downhill. I was embarrassed and she said next time we'd go to Rasta's next door 'where the food is really good.' All three starters appeared at the same time, right after the lousy drinks. The brussel sprouts were soggy and there was this icky white mayo-type sauce on it. The salad was missing the white beans so they gave us $4 off our bill (big deal). The waitress never stopped interrupting us. It was all very 'rushed' and get this - there was almost no one in the restaurant on a Friday night before a long Christmas weekend. You guys are going out of business before you even started because your competition is fierce with much better cuisine.
Had a business holiday lunch party here and everything was fantastic!
Great add to the Navy Yard area. Really happy with the food!
Manager was gr8. Attentive
It was our first visit to Declaration. We had a reservation in the table was waiting for us when we arrived. While overall the table service was slow, our big problem was with the bar service. After sitting down it was 10 to 15 minutes before someone came by to take a drink order. Shortly there after the waiter returned and we ordered our entrées. By the time our entrées arrived 30 minutes later, we still hadn’t received our drinks from the bar. We reminded both the hostess and our waiter multiple times that we hadn’t received our drinks, but neither of them seem to be able to resolve the problem.
Our beers finally arrived as we were taking the final bites of our entrées. Since we were heading off to a sports event we didn’t have the time to sit around and enjoy the drinks, so we requested they be removed from the bill and we wrapped things up. The two tables on each side of us had similar problems with their drink orders. With one table waiting more than 45 minutes for a couple margaritas.
Yes the restaurant and bar were busy, but when you open the place next to a sports arena you’ve got to account for the expected crowds. While the waiter service was a bit slow, their bar service in particular was abysmal and they really need to work out and prioritize the restaurant service bar over the cash bar. Either have a dedicated bartender handling the restaurant drinks (service bar), or teach the bartender to prioritize restaurant drink orders over to walk up cash bar.
Lastly, I want to add that the manager, our waiter, & the hostess were particularly nice and understanding regarding the issues we’ve experienced. They all apologized profusely and waved our charges for the drinks. I appreciate the gesture, but they really need to get there food and drinks delivery processes improved.
Our server was really bad. I had to ask for water four different times -- but never from our actual server, it was from other staff. At one point in our meal, he asked my friend if he could take her diet coke away (not so he could refill it, just take it away altogether), and it was still half full. He was very unhelpful when I asked him about something on the menu and really didn't seem like he wanted to be there at work. It was a disappointing experience.
The food was decent. Not great, but good. I'm not sure the price point was appropriate for what we got.
The food was fairly good (some meals were on the colder side) but the service was a bit slow. Overall I will try this restaurant again but not for a special occasion.
I love the other Declaration location, but my first time at the Navy Yard location was a bad experience. The server was not attentive at all. Didn't know the menu at all. Didn't check on us at all. And didn't try to rectify the poor service/situation.
Excellent food and superior service.
good food and great drinks. Went for brunch, pricing for bottomless mimosas was high especially since they wouldn't leave a carafe for my table of 6. We kept having to ask the server to come back and refill. Considering we were the only ones in the restaurant, asking for refills seemed like it shouldn't have been necessary. Chicken and waffles are good, the sriracha maple syrup sounds weird but it blends well with the chicken. Not too spicy but has a kick. it also comes with Coleslaw... which it doesn't say on the menu. Its not too bad but if you don't want it let them know.
We had a work lunch at this restaurant. It was a bit loud so it would not be a good spot for a working lunch. Luckily, that is not why we were there and everyone enjoyed the service and the food!
Forgot one pizza. The other was cold. The place wasn’t busy.
We enjoyed the pizza very much as well as our entrees. It was moderately busy but we felt ‘left’ by our waiter for far too long. Had to call him over to take our entree orders.
Braised pork Ragu was wonderful.
Went after Nats game with my family who loves pizza. Pizza was so-so and service was slow. It took several minutes for waiter to come to our table after we sat down, despite the fact that there were few tables full when we arrived. After we got our drinks, the waiter disappeared. Finally, someone who appeared to be a manager walked by and I was able to place our order. Then it took a while to get our check and pay.
If you are heading to a game, the location cannot be beat. It wasn't very crowded, but the bar was exceedingly slow. The brunch food was average, but it's a cute, casual spot right next to the park.
I love this place..
First time at Declaration. Food was very good, but the menu is somewhat limited, although the Gluten Free pizza was clutch. Great vibe for a Nats pregame. Service was very good. The drinks were good, although pricey. Overall, a great time.
Selected this restaurant to grab a bite during rain delay at Nats park. Reservation was honored immediately and service was good. Ordered wings, double cheeseburger, and margerita pizza with meat toppings. Wings were a little over cooked but good, double cheeseburger was just ok, and pizza had absolutely no flavor!
Good spot to get a solid meal before a Nats game. It's just around the corner from the stadium, but doesn't get as mobbed as the places around 1/2 Street. Good beer and cocktail list. I just had the pizza for dinner and it was very solid.
Outside of the pizza which is acceptable, nobody in our party liked the food
Wondering service and excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere
I LOVE THIS PLACE!! Marcus and Jasmine are great staff.. Thanks for the home town feeling.
One of my fave lunch spots in Navy Yard. Love the meatball and Brussels sprouts starters.
This was our first time at Declarations. The brunch menu was quite short, but had a lot of variety. The service was good and our server knowledgeable and attentive. The food looked very good -- all of the various dishes I saw coming out of the kitchen. I had the fried chicken and waffle. The chicken was well cooked and moist; however, it had NO seasoning -- therefore NO taste. There was no salt or pepper on any of the tables, so I couldn't add myself. So... the meal was disappointing. I will give it one more try -- want to test out the pizza.
The flies inside the restaurant really ruined the atmosphere
2nd time was just as great as the 1st. Servers are attentive and welcoming. my new favorite place.
the atmosphere is great. I felt welcomed at the moment I entered.
Went for restaurant week. They’re apparently known for their pizza, but didn’t have any on the prix fix menu. Food was ok, nothing special. Fruit flies and other flies around my food (melon and beet salad) was pretty offputting. I know it can be hard to control flies in the summer, but I’ve never experienced a restaurant situation with numerous bugs flying around and constantly landing on my food. They need to set up some traps.
The food was on point and the waitress was friendly
We went for restaurant week. It took almost 2 hours to get all our courses and 20 minutes to get our checks. The food wasnt BAD, but it was only okay. Spend your valuable Restaurant Week lunchtime somewhere else.
This was my first visit - took advantage of Restaurant Week and what a pleasant treat just around the corner from my office. Nice, casual atmosphere, excellent food, good service. Bonus - a really pleasant surprise when I was informed by the waitress that the Restaurant Week lunch included a glass of wine!
Will be returning again today.
Stopped in before a DC United game. The staff was friendly, the food was good, and the drinks were extremely reasonable ($8 cocktails!). You can't really ask for more from a pre-game spot.
I'd definitely come here again! Great, casual atmosphere with fresh modern-rustic décor. Solid cocktail menu and unique pizzas. Outstanding service. One of my friends ordered his pizza "extra crispy." The chef thought he overdid it, and even though my friend told the waitress he thought the pizza looked great and was happy with it, the chef wasn't satisfied with it so he made a second one the way he meant to the first time. We enjoyed both pizzas! Above and beyond on service,
Food was wonderful, great happy hour portions. Limited seating though.
Popped in after a Nats baseball game. Zucchini Chips and The Thomas Jefferson pizza w/added pepperoni. We shared both and they hit the spot. It was quiet and peaceful. Our waitress was spot on and attentive. Only negative is the cat that brought the pizza...didn't speak other than a mumble, had a tooth pick in his mouth(very unprofessional) and he didn't take away the empty zucchini chips bowl that was in the way on the smallish table for a pizza. Will pop in again.
We were just about the only diners after a Nats game. Inattentive servers delayed our ordering and meal. Additional drinks were not offered. Mediocre food.
Location is good, but we will not go back.
Declaration is pretty standard fare. I found the selection to be good and the pizza my table split was good. It's a nice choice if going to a Nats game.
