A soulful, contemporary restaurant, Decca brings the talents of chef Annie Pettry to 812 East Market Street. A commitment to locally farmed and small production ingredients is evident in the kitchen and throughout the bar and wine program. Decca makes its home in a historically renovated 1870's building, and features two intimate dining rooms, a private dining room, an outdoor courtyard, and a beautiful brick and limestone cellar for libations and revelry. We were celebrating the promotion to a new job and mentioned it in the OpenTable reservation comments and they gave us each a glass of Prosecto to enjoy on the house! Great service, wonderful food! The ribeye steak was tender and flavorful and the pork shank fell off the bone.
The meal at Decca was fabulous. It always is. Our waiter seem very tentative and new and wasn’t very engaging. The first time we went we had a waiter who really helped us make the most of the menu and we had some new people with us and was quite disappointed that we had to ask for some engagement and even then it was very tentative. We could barely hear him speak. We trust he was new and really aren’t complaining just giving feedback.
The food was absolutely delicious! The risotto was tasty as can be, and the ricotta toast should definitely be tasted to be believed. I had the pork rib and it was so tender I hardly had to chew at all. I would definitely recommend going there for a date night or just for a fun friendly gathering.
Food was excellent, but we were seated upstairs. The room was spare and unwelcoming. We were celebrating a special occasion and the ambiance was not conducive for comfort or pleasant dining. I know the basement is known for music and food, but we did not attend and cannot comment on that.
The food is always consistently good to truly special. Service varies depending on which waitperson serves you and the hostess has consistently feigned interest in me as a diner over the last 16 months I’ve been dining there. The food is the reason I return, in spite of an average dining experience.
I've been to Decca several times in the past. I've always had good meals. Tonight was an off night for the Chef. My very small serving of Steak Tartar was good, but extremely small for $18. My Redfish was unseasoned, the portion was very small, and the cannellini beans served with the Redfish were hard. With my side of broccoli, my bill was $54 before tax and tip. I left hungry. That shouldn't happen.
My wife said Decca's new Chicken dish was the worst chicken dish she's ever had. I tasted it, and I agree with her. Neither of us have ever had chicken with the consistency of this dish. I would advise against ordering it.
Although I've always like this place, the food not good, the portions seem to have gotten smaller, and it is very expensive relative to the portions. We won't be going back any time soon.
Food was great. Redfish is a great entree Beets are amazing. Wine was great (Chateauneuf du Pape), but markup was astounding. Our server was out to lunch. Slow, with no personality. Flat, flat affect. We got a double charge from him, but it was changed with a nice apology from management. He seemed not to fit.
We had to check on our food after it took awhile..... and got 2 different excuses as to why it took so long. So for our trouble and we were running late to get to a concert, I thought our bill would reflect some sort of comp. Also, the server mentioned that might happen. We just got a manager visit and no offer to make it right. It’s too bad because the food was excellent and I’ve been here several times and loved all previous visits.
Another go-to in Louisville. Amazing wood grill options (don't miss the broccoli which is always on the menu). Didn't love our waiter (who has been there as long as we have been going and yet pretends not to recognize us) but that would never stop us from dining there. Weather permitting, the outside patio is also lovely.
We were celebrating my husband's birthday! It was a special night that was lovely sitting out on the patio! The food was amazing. The fried green tomatoes were especially tasty! After dinner we went downstairs for a cozy drink in the cellar which would also be perfect to do while you wait for your table.
We dined here on a quiet and slow night, which was fine with us. Complimentary sparkling wine for our anniversary was a nice welcome. Food was uniquely and skillfully prepared and we tried several courses. Service attentive and approachable, not to overbearing. My favorite was the duck terrine with pickled vegetables and cherry mostarda, including pickled cherries, served with wood grilled focaccia. SO good!
I have to admit. My first experience when Deca opened was short. Didn't even try the food as I could not tolerate how close the tables were. Felt like I was in NYC. I don't wish to be so close to patrons that I hear their conversations. We left.
This weekend, we dined outside and it was a home run. Food was excellent and carefully crafted. Staff was on their game as well. Great ambience. Well appointed tables.
My husband and I ate at Decca last night for our five-year wedding anniversary. I mentioned that it was our anniversary in that "special requests" field when you make a reservation on Open Table. Until now, every restaurant has ignored that field, but not Decca. They congratulated us on our anniversary, sat us down at a great table on the patio and gave us a complimentary champagne toast!
We weren't seated right away because we wanted to sit outside, which was perfect because it gave us a chance to have a drink at their cellar bar. I had the Little Red Dress, which is a champagne and vodka cocktail. Delish!
Our table was ready before we finished our cocktails, and they seamlessly transferred our bill upstairs. The ambiance outside is really nice: koi pond, lights strung from tree branches, etc. We had the fried green tomatoes to start; omg, they are divine! My husband had the Texas red fish, and I had to pork chop. We shared the broccoli; It will make you want to eat your vegetables! Our dinner did not disappoint! For dessert, we ordered the buttermilk pie, which was amazing. You're seeing a pattern here. My only advice would be to not pair it with a citrus sorbet next time as it took me out of the experience. When our check came, so did caramel popcorn that was good as anything we could've ordered on the menu. Nice touch! Oh, and the chenin blanc wine pairs nicely with the pork and the fish.
I'll also add that we overheard a service issue with another table that got their food late, and the waiters handled it admirably, comping their food.
We will definitely return to Decca and highly recommend it to you.
I don't think I've ever been as disappointed in a restaurant as I was on Saturday night at Decca. We were a party of 3 with a reservation. We arrived on time, and the only thing the hostess said to us was "Well, I hope you still want a table outside." She barely made eye contact. I wrote it off to her not having a great personality to begin with, and was still very excited for dinner. We sat at a lovely table on the patio. After about five minutes of watching the servers wait on everyone other table on the patio, a woman came up with water and bread. She never spoke to us. Just dropped off the bread and water. After almost 20 minutes, a server realized we had not been helped and came over. He asked if anyone had been over to us yet, and when we said no he offered to get us drinks. He did not seem entirely surprised or sorry, but we were just happy to be getting a cocktail! After ANOTHER TEN MINUTES of waiting, our drinks came. Finally, I noticed a woman I thought might be a manager cleaning a table near us. I asked her if she knew if we had a server, and she came over to our table and said "Yes, you have a server. Let me go find him." No smile, no apology, no emotion whatsoever. We were starting to wonder if everyone at Decca took a downer or something before their shift? After our interaction with the manager we decided that we would not stay for dinner. Finally, our server, or a server, we're not sure, approached us and vaguely apologized. We said that we'd only be having the drinks and he said, "Ok" and brought us the check. We paid our bill (shocked that they didn't offer us anything or even attempt to explain what in the heck had happened) and left. No one said anything to us on the way out. The manager never came back to our table, in fact we didn't see her again. We were incredibly angry and disappointed, because we had heard such good things and the food sounded wonderful. However, we luckily walked down the street to Garage Bar and had an excellent dinner!
Great food and service. Creative use of ingredients and great presentation. Parking somewhat of a challenge due to construction in the area. Interesting wine list that could use more selections from Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Cocktails well made but not generous in size. Our server was well informed about the choices on the menu and very enthusiastic about the seasonal menu. Particular dishes that were outstanding were the mussels appetizer and the duck liver terrine with accompaniments. Shrimp entree was also excellent. Chocolate cake with coffee ice cream was fabulous. We will definitely go there again soon.
