Decca 77 Ratings and Reviews
We were there for New Year's Eve dinner. There was a 4 course prix fixe menu and the food was good. It was not the best meal I have had in Montreal (go to Le Robin Square for that). The service was horrible! I had to ask to have my water glass refilled every time (4 times), the appetizers and half the 2nd course came out at the same time (3 of 6 people's second course came out). We had to order a Coke twice before it came. One of my dining companions had to pour their own wine when our server disappeared. The waiters could not remember who ordered what and kept placing food in front of the wrong person at every course. I had a view of the kitchen and some of servers were drinking wine while working--it looked like they were finishing up a bottle that was left behind from a previous diner's table. To top it all off, 3 people (including me) ordered decaf coffee, one ordered regular. The server couldn't remember which cups were decaf and which one was regular and I ended up with the regular coffee --even after confirming with the server that it was decaf. I ended up not being able to fall asleep until 3AM! The price of the meal did not match the service received. Would not recommend returning unless there is a changeover in staff and an improved menu.
We are a family of five with three teenagers. A quiet night just after Christmas, the night turned out to be fantastic with respect to every course, the service and conversation.
The beef tartare was everything we expected and the fried avocado was something we’ve never tried and we loved. All the meals were delicious and cooked to our satisfaction. The dessert was elegant and completing. The waiter, originally from France, seemed to be serving many other roles. He was extremely friendly, accommodating and attentive.
We were seated and despite the fact that it was a hockey game and usually a very busy night, only 2 wait staff and 1 bus boy were on hand in the bottom section. It took 10 mins before we were even acknowledged by our waiter, the another few mins for water. Meal was decent, but not good value...$38 for a few slices of flank steak on fries and a small portion of gnocchi for $24. Wine was priced in the usual range for downtown restaurants. Ambiance was subdued, lighting seems off, not sure what exactly it is but it makes the place feel worn out. I've been there for lunch and it was definitely a nicer experience.
Location is great. Valet service is even better! The food: based of the mtl a table menu was a nice selection. The starter was pathetic. It was a Caesar salad looking for life. The main was nice. I had flank steak... simple enough. Desserts ... both option sucked and tasted stale. The service: great until the waitress cleared the table and completely forgot about offering dessert for at least 30 minutes. Everything is quiet pricey ... thank god for mtl a table
On a night when there is a show at the Bell Centre, you'd think they had the staff to handle a surge of diners all wanting to leave by 7:30, but apparently not. The wait for appetizers was long, the wait for mains even longer. We ended up finishing up dessert while paying, and skipped coffee or tea.
As for the food, utterly underwhelming. It was a set menu for Montreal's MTL à Table event. My wife and I each had the variation on a Caesar salad, which was sold as being a lighter dressing. The presentation was awful - a few leaves, some bacon, no cheese. As for the dressing, it seemed that it was waved on top of the salad without actually getting any on the lettuce. I had the bavette main - bof. The meat had little taste, the fries ok. My wife had the duck confit which was passable.
We both had the pouding chômeur for dessert (for 31$, it wasn't going to stay in the kitchen). The cake was dry, and the sauce was heavily alcoholized - not my idea of a pudding chômeur.
This is the second time I've been there on a night there's an event at the Bell Centre - never again.
We had a very nice evening, some enjoyed very much, others find the portion of the Salmon very small. The wine list should be revised with wines that are a little more affordable. I think the cheapeast wine from France was 135$, I think this is really exagerated. Finally we got a wine that was not on the wine list suggested by Julien, which we got a very very good service!
We will come again.
We decided to try the resto as it got good reviews. When we went it was a pre-event table d'hote menu since it was night of Bruno Mars concert. The service is good but the food was a huge disappointment. My husband and I had salmon and beef tartare respectively, and it didn't taste fresh. The salmon was not firm in texture, and the colour of beef was dull and tasted old. The salad that came with it was made of cheap ingredients (lettuce, bacon bits, coutons) - the chef could at least put a drop of truffle oil. The dessert was a fruit tarte but the base and custard fill tasted like it was factory ordered, then topped with fresh fruits. I returned my beef tartare plate and replaced with a fillet mignon, but for the price of it ($42) the accompanying vegetables were cheap - carrots and broccoli with button mushrooms. If it were asparagus and portobello mushrooms.. it would have been better. Would have left only one star, but the additional is for the service. Definitely not going to have me as repeat customer!
