I was looking last minute for a restaurant to dinner and drinks and Death Ave. was a perfect choice with delicious food and great wine choices.
We are frequent visitors to NYC from Boston and appreciate the diversity of its restaurants and what they have to offer.
The best things about this restaurant are its location and the fact that it isn't too crowded for brunch and the seating gives you space.
The menu is relatively large and varied, and all the food is well done.
We were there for a 5 person family brunch and everyone found something they could like.
It's expensive by our provincial standards but hey it's NY, right?
Great spot for after work drinks/dinner. I would definitely go back
I love this place. It's cozy, has a kooky layout, is homely and the food is original and fun. It's kind of like a high end bistro but not. The service is really good, the drinks are really good, the food is really good, it's just good. I also think this was the first time I liked fried pickles. Usually they're too oily but no here. I had the lamb shank and it was tender, savory and soooo good when it hit the lips. Right now you can't eat outside but once spring comes, this is where you'll find me.
GREAT Menu options, nice tasting and entree choices, everything fresh, never disappoints. Drink and wine selection also excellent. Frequent the restaurant or their bar next door at least once a week. Bar menu has limited food options however charcuterie or KimKraut great for two or for a group. Death Ave is our go to, so happy in our neighborhood.
A bit too pricey, layout in the back is a bit odd. Food was ok but not great
I know it’s hip Chelsea, but it was expensive for a quick, light lunch.
Great ambiance and loved the little nooks and eating areas. The room we were in was louder than expected without all the tables filled, but was totally bearable. Tacos and fried pickles were delicious! Definitely on my return to list, especially when it's warmer out and we can explore the outdoor area.
Amazing service, meal, ambience, drinks. Everything was fantastic. Highly recommended.
Too noisy.
Beautiful labyrinthine restaurant, with excellent service, great drinks, and a surprising menu! Will be back.
Great vibe!
Would love to have beer flights available for beer tasting as they are brewery anyway. Now tasting requires to buy 10-12 usd beers for each and not to finish them.
Food was excellent. The best lamb chops for a long time, same with the chicken soup. Crete salad was having maybe bit too much rucola (gets quite bitter that way), but I still liked it a lot.
Went on a Saturday night and we were literally the only table filled in the whole restaurant and the service was still terrible.
Cool space. The cocktails and beer are great. The food is overpriced and mediocre at best.An almost $30 moussaka that was fine. Tacos for almost $30 that are literally not nearly as good as $4 tacos from Tacombi. We got the braised cauliflower and shrimp. The cauliflower was hard, the opposite of braised. A $200 for 4 people where everyone left saying "it wasn't bad but it wasn't good."
Amazing server in the 1st half.
The food is so bad and the pricing for horrible food is just as bad. Don’t go no matter what you hear about this restaurant
restaurant is a bit too warm (temperature). Need to turn heat down
My friend and I were in the area for a show and had an amazing time at Death Ave for dinner and drinks. The staff kept us laughing, made great recommendations, and felt like friends. The food is delicious. Definitely give the fried pickles and truffle fries a try. They come with amazing sauces (one of the best BBQs I’ve ever had). We also chose the 8hr marinated octopus and the Byzantine sausage. There wasn’t a thing left on the plate! As drinks go, our top three favorites were the fig julep, the old fashioned, and the black martini. If you’re on the high line and was perfectly curated cocktails and well executed food...this is your spot.
Food was very OK. Staff was not particularly attentive. Ambiance was fine. Wouldn’t go back.
food was good but not hot when it arrived at table.
Excellent food!
At first we were seated in the back dining room, which, at first, was quieter than the bar area. But when my guest arrived the table of young women next to us became so loud we had to move! The bar was quieter, although when the music got louder we had to ask for our server to have it lowered. Which happened, and so our meal continued in peace.
But the burger was so big, and the muffin do soft and crumbly it was difficult to enjoy.
So, ultimately, service was professional but the food was overpriced and poorly presented, and the beer overpriced and in not even pint glasses, that I can not recommend it as a good value. Pretty interior, however.
Wonderful meal and service. Will certainly go back!
Another great meal at Death Avenue. The food seemed even more delicious than usual, and Steve and the staff were warm and welcoming as always. Can’t wait to go back.
Food was mediocre. Pretty place but definitely not worth the price. Limited dessert menu. Entree sound much better as described then they tasted. Try some place else for your money.
What a fun place! Came here with a group of 5 and sat in a little private booth with curtains! Food was good to share and the cocktails were great.
Inconsistent, bizarre service, good food. Went on a quiet a Saturday afternoon. Servers never appeared, had to hunt them down several times. Attitude like they were doing you a favor. Really wanted to like this place because when the drinks and food finally arrived, they were great.
Service was awful. Constantly had empty glasses and it seemed like we were bothering the servers and we had 2-3 different servers. Rude staff. Won’t return!
Ate here while visiting for New York Comic Con and it was a nice escape from the chaos. A wonderful menu with plenty of new things to try and wonderful service.
Great food and ambiance. Loved our meal!
Food very tasty and nice presentation just a little overpriced
The omelette was almost without any filling the water was warm and we had to ask for ice we were very dissatisfied
Super cute place
Overpriced, mediocre-to-bad service, okay food
Ok this place was a little confusing. It has two entrances and I came to figure out with no help from the bartender that the ‘bar’ had a limited menu. But the ‘restaurant’ had a different menu. The bar side was deserted - we sat at a high top / the bartender behind the bar yelled across and asked me what I wanted. I requested a glass of wine and water and continued chatting with my friend. He then yelled for me to pick up my two glasses at the bar / wtf? And then proceeded to be on his phone the entire time. Not cool.
Disappointed in the food here. The chicken was dry. Cod didn’t have much flavor.
Great food, unique menu
Dinner service was great. Noise level was low, so it was a great place to meet and talk. Food came out promptly, and over all was good. The lamb shank and burger were great, but the roasted chicken was very very dry that only half was eaten. Price is comparable to other restaurants in the area. Over all very good experience and will return to try the items on the menu.
I am giving this restaurant five stars because they went above-and-beyond to look after us. We were a last-minute booking of a large (and noisy) group for late on a Sunday evening, and the staff could not have been more accommodating. The hosts and servers were extremely gracious and tucked us away into a semi-private area of the restaurant so we could relax and catch up (at volume...) with some long-absent friends. The food was wonderful: most of us had tacos of various sorts, which were delicious, and the oregano and truffle fries were amazing! We finished with the bread pudding (fantastic) and the chocolate pudding (outstanding). Overall, it was a fantastic meal, though it was the staff that made this such a special evening.
