De Novo Ratings and Reviews
Awesome restaurant. Great decor and excellent views of the Commons and the Christmas lights. The food was great and the Cesar salad was the best with the unique parmasan bowls. Tevin our server was the best and made our evening a night to remember. Thanks Tevin and the whole crew. Our new favorite.
We were at deNOVO for a Saturday brunch with the family before we attended the Nutcracker Suite at The Ohio Theatre. The service was excellent, attentive and respectful. All the plates we ordered were excellent food presented in an attractive display. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. The decor is well done with interesting focal points amid a blend of contemporary and classic styles. We're sending family and friends gift certificates to deNOVO for the holidays.
Food was excellent, but we had to wait quite a while for it! Ordered something special and it was initially messed up in the kitchen... but even after the server told us of the error, we still waited a long time! Kitchen error the last time I was there, too... but it was fixed much more quickly.
The decor and service were both very nice. We went for brunch, and my friend got the brussel sprout flatbread while I ordered the short rib with eggs and hash. Food was tasty and original, but I did think that the prices were a little high for the amount of food you got. Overall, would go back to try some of the other interesting breakfast items or happy hour.
We had brunch for a friends birthday, everything was going great until she found a hair in her food. The waiter said “it happens” replaced her entree with another dish which came out much later than our entrees and didn’t take her replacement dish off the bill. Overall left underwhelmed.
They put us at a great table overlooking the Columbus Commons which had their awesome Christmas light display in full swing. It was a GREAT view. The food was delicious! The creme brulee french toast is to die for. Hubby got the chicken sandwich and fries, which was also very tasty. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this place!
Atmosphere very nice. Convenient for a theater night. Entree was Ravioli, bistro size. Expected meal to include salad and bread but neither was even offered. Shared Key Lime pie with my daughter, for dessert. Flavor was nice, texture was more like cake. Didn’t care for it. So I had 5 ravioli, couple bites of Keylime and a tasty drink and left hungry. My daughter had the Salmon entree which also was very good but also small. Our bill was over $60!!
My daughter and I came here for dinner before a show at the Ohio Theater. We had never been here before and were thrilled with vibe of the restaurant. The host was seating us at a large round table in the middle of the room which seemed like an odd choice of table when others were open. I commented on the xmas lights in the Columbus Commons and then he offered to seat us at a booth at the window. Not sure why that wasn't offered first, but oh well.
Our server was pleasant and asked if we were going to the show, which we were. So that should've been a clue that we were on bit of a schedule. We were seated at 5:45 and the show was at 7:30, so plenty of time for 2 people to dine. But he was a little slow on getting to us throughout the evening, and they were not busy. No worries, it all worked out.
My daughter had the Ravioli and I had the steak salad. She enjoyed her ravioli and was happy she ordered the Bistro size. She did wish it came with a side salad or bread. My steak salad was delicious except there was hardly any steak on it. Panera puts way more steak on their salad. So that was disappointing. There was only one size salad offered, and maybe they should've had a larger size because I would've ordered that.
For dessert we settled on the peanut butter pie because the carrot cake cheesecake was out as was another dessert. It was rich and dense and delicious. I guess having a small salad and Bistro size ravioli saved room for dessert.
My biggest complaint was that it was very cold in there (and that's saying something because I am always hot). It makes sense because there are so many windows and most of them are like garage doors that roll open in the warmer months. But if you go in the winter, bring a sweater.
We are looking to returning to De NOVO, especially in the summer.
This was my first time going and it was amazing. The service was great from the greeter to the waiter. The waiter was very personable and sweet. The food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance was incredible. I definitely recommend this venue and I definitely will be a returning customer.
After we sat for a good 10 mins and had to say something to the manager we finally got approached by a server. Very apologetic staff the food was good except the deviled eggs. Atmosphere is pretty. Booth was not the most comfortable but overall nice romantic spot for a date. I would like to try again maybe in the summer with the concerts going on outside
I hesitate to write this because I love this place, but something was way off Friday night. The salmon was burnt and smothered in the mustard sauce. Maybe to hide the burntness. It was ordered med rare. The lobster mac/cheese was so spicy it wasn't edible and no other flavor was present. Even the manager greed. The calamari was ok but very small portion. The decaf was very weak with no flavor at all. Dessserts, short ribs and cocktails were outstanding. I'll return in hopes it was just an off night.
Great place during holiday as bicentennial park is decorated with a beautiful light display. Food was very good. I had scallops and my husband had the salmon. Our waiter wasn't the greatest. My husband ordered shrimp cocktail and he came back and said they do not have shrimp cocktail it is a shrimp cocktail. Confusing. When he gave him a large bill to break so he could give him a tip he said they don't take cash. I've never heard of a restaurant turning down cash. All in all it was a good place.
DeNovo has it all! The food is fabulous. Our waiter was attentive, efficient and gave welcomed advice on a food and wine paring. The decor glitters and sparkles. We got a table near the window and had a beautiful view of Columbus Commons. The brussels sprouts appetizer is delish!
Jenny was our server and was outstanding. Since we were going to a show nearby, she said she would have us out the door half an hour before curtain and succeeded. Two of us had the lobster mac 'n'cheese which had gotten rave patron reviews, but ours was very dry although did have a good flavor. Beer and wine selection so-so. Despite this, liked the setting and service and will go back. Great location!!
We've been to DeNovo several times and have always loved it. This visit was a little disappointing. A few things to note....We got a bottle of wine, and were offered no taste of it prior to serving. Found that odd. I ordered my salad with no cucumbers or black beans, and it came with both. The server noticed me picking them out but never offered me a new salad, or a discounted bill. My fiance had kangaroo, and found it to be overcooked and a bit chewy. Overall disappointing this time, but because of past good experiences I feel it's worth another shot.
First time eating here. Our waiter was phenomenal and really helpful with drink suggestions. The food was good and we appreciated the small plate options for most of the entrees. My only complaint was that our bill didn’t reflect the prices on the menu. We ordered dessert (Godiva lava cake) where the menu said $8.00 but our bill listed it at $12 and we didn’t notice until after we left. The ambience of the restaurant was amazing and I would go back for that (and the Baked Apple Mule) alone!
I am a regular, but even with a reservation. we had to wait 15 minutes and then were asked to sit in the bar area. Once we sat down and received the waiter's attention, service and food was very good. I? guess I have to allow for everyone to have an off day.
This place was all about the presentation, but there was little substance. The ambiance was incredible to the eye, but included greasy floors, mismatched and less than functional tables/settings, the food was described well but fell extremely flat upon eating it. Short ribs were extremely fatty, beyond any I've ever tasted and lacked flavor. The Whipped potatoes beneath it were not whipped, nor were they fully cooked or seasoned. The de Novo pasta was boring and over-cooked, with completely bland chicken on top and worthless micro-greens that didn't fit the dish, nor offer much in the way of presentation. If this place continues to put their money on the ambiance and avoids inspiration from the kitchen, it won't be around long.
Had a great experience at the old location (date night with hubby). Decided to invite girl friends (from out of town) to the new location. Appetizers took way long. When they came out my crab cakes weren't hot. Honestly believe someone forgot to bring them out. A very nice woman (presume the manager) stopped by our table and had more prepared. They were better but dinner was very disappointing. Menu has changed since date night and that's okay. Overall, very disappointing. Should have taken my out of town guests to Easton
The customer service stood out to me . Our waiter was always making sure we had enough to drink and gave a very good recommendation on the entree that we order. The food was delicious...everything properly cooked and great portions. A definite find for us here in Columbus and we will be returning in the future!
