   De NOVO Bistro & Bar is just around the block from the Ohio Theatre, and it has become my favorite place to eat before seeing a show. On our latest visit, we took advantage of the $5 event parking under the Ohio State Capitol. My friend and I both started with the de NOVO Bibb Salad. The ample amount of what the menu describes as "Fine Herb Vinaigrette" dressing had a thick, green, pea-soup appearance that did not appeal to me at all. I'm definitely not the most adventurous eater, and I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted the salad. The dressing is unique, with a hint of wasabi, horseradish, or another similar spice that may prove too rich for sensitive eaters. I ordered the Lobster Mac & Cheese, described on the menu as sauteed Maine lobster, brie, Boursin, white cheddar, Parmesan, black truffles, herb Parmesan crumble, trumpet pasta and a hint of jalapeno. It was a rich, creamy grown up mac & cheese with an oh-so-subtle spicy kick. I ordered the "bistro" portion, and I gobbled up every morsel, but I was completely satisfied with serving size. I'm sure I would not have been able to finish an "entree" sized portion - and I am a large woman with a hearty appetite. My dining companion ordered the Pan Roasted Mustard Glazed Salmon. The salmon was cooked to perfection. We split a dessert of butterbeer ice cream, a butterscotch/caramel flavored treat inspired by the Harry Potter books. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. The service was top-notch and the restaurant's decor is whimsical, chic, and gorgeous. I am already planning my next visit.

   We go here every time we go to the Ohio theater. Great food and service. Valet is the way to go. Food is very good and reasonably priced. Excellent deserts.

   Excellent service, food, and scenery! We were celebrating "yes to the dress". Delicious crepes, crab cakes, scallops and short ribs! The cocktails were just right too! Thanks De Novo staff for making our brunch special!

   My sister, boyfriend and I made reservations there Friday night for drinks and appetizers before going to the symphony. The reservation was for 7 o’clock and we arrived on time. There was no one at the host stand and we stood there for several minutes before anyone came or even acknowledged us. We were seated at a table that looked like it had been half set with two silverware setups and one glass. We then waited maybe 7 or 8 minutes before the server came and said she didn’t know we were there. We placed our drink and food order immediately letting her know we had to be out by a certain time. We didn’t even get our waters until being there for 25 minutes. The manger came and asked if everything was ok. We told her we had been waiting a while and were worried that our food might not arrive in time. She did apologize but said the steak salad probably wouldn’t be out in time, that the kitchen was backed up. The restaurant wasn’t even half full. The cocktails came, one was wrong and the other was just not good. The manager bought our drinks and was apologetic but the evening was incredibly disappointing. We’ve dined there several times but that was not a good experience.

   My husband and I went there to eat before a show. It was our first time in their new location (they've been there about a year). Loved the decor, the view from our table, the ambiance. It was such a mild evening they had the doors up, so it was somewhat of an alfresco experience. The menu looked fantastic--we checked it online before going. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as we have had elsewhere. We started with the brusslel sprouts first--the waiter highly recommended them and we usually love them. They were so salty, we couldn't eat many. I got the see bass and the natural flavor was overwhelmed by the vegetables. My husband got a spicy pasta with chicken and he said that it was very bland. I would recommend it for drinks, though. My rose was wonderful and they seemed to have good wines and cocktails.

   Eating at De Novo with the view of Columbus Commons, gives you a feeling of dining in an extraordinary space. The menu is eclectic and the presentation of our tasty entrees was excellent. Service was personable and efficient, both Jonah and his partnering trainee Josh appeared to be enjoying their part of our dining experience. Recommend this restaurant for any special or otherwise dining experience! Larry & Marilyn Delk

   Took my mom and sister out for dinner. Though the menu can be pricey, you can order the "bistro" size on many items to make it more reasonable. And the smaller size is plenty of food. Mom loved the lobster mac & cheese; sis had the capellini cold dish and was happy with it. (Salmon came out overdone but our waiter, Rob, did a great job of getting it replaced immediately.) I had the purse pasta - also good, but I added chicken and it was a little overdone. Moreover, we had a pleasant meal with good service. I have friends who've been to DeNovo in the evening previously, on different occasions, and said the service was not good. I have not experienced that -- either during lunches when I am there, or this (first-time) evening visit. I should say, though, that there were not many guests in the dining room while I was there, either.

   The hostess was clueless. I had two guests driving in from Pittsburgh which I told her. When they arrived she told them there wasn't a lone female waiting for guests. Fortunately they decided to look around and found me. The service was okay. I think we may have had someone just learning. He was friendly but not very attentive and when we were ready for our check we were told he had left. I had the glazed salmon which was good. My friend had the mile high quiche and it was very small. We were celebrating a birthday and the ice cream was presented well.

    My husband and I really loved this place and will definitely be back! He devoured his lobster mac & cheese, and I was extremely impressed with the salmon. The flavors were unexpected and the salmon was cooked perfectly. They also have a nice wine list with various uncommon selections. I asked to peek at their brunch menu, and it looked incredible! I'll be trying that soon!
