Looking for Memphis restaurants with vegan options on the menu and decided on De Javu. Ended up having lunch and dinner there during this trip and would highly recommend the place to anyone looking for vegan and/or New Orleans creole style cuisine. It was great to have vegan entrees which were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The energy level in this little restaurant during dinner service is contagious. A fun experience.

You go to Memphis for the BBQ, but if you are downtown and looking for something different, this place makes you feel you are in the middle of a New Orleans neighborhood. My wife and I lived in New Orleans for 20 years, and everything here is just like being there. An added bonus is that a large portion of the menu is vegetarian. It is all deliciousness. I had the veggie plate (four of the vegetable sides) and a cup of seafood gumbo. My wife had a catfish topped with crawfish etouffe. We shared a grilled boudin and finished with bread pudding. Highly recommended.

I loved the food as well as the service at Dejavu. My husband is a critic when it comes to New Orleans food since he's from Louisiana. He loved the taste and the spices of the food. I would recommend if you love New Orleans cruisine it's a must!! The location is great also.

The menu was true to South Louisiana traditional fare, but the similarities stopped there. We had a party of six and we won't be going back. The waiter was attentive and tried- maybe a little too hard: "orgasmic bananas foster cheese cake" being described to my 76 year old mother-in-law as he reviewed the menu did set the tone for the meal. After waiting a solid (45) minutes for our food, when it finally came out it was cold, all six meals and no ones sides appeared.

Our meal and overall dinning experience was anything but "orgasmic...."

Lived in Memphis for years and walked past this establishment many times. Looks proved to be deceiving. A friend urged me to try it. I don't know why I waiting so long. Great food. I don't need to go to New Orleans any longer to fix my craving for Cajun food. I'll be back again and again now that I know this is a gem.

This place has wonderful food! The chef/owner, Gary, is so nice! We got the seafood combination platter, fish, oysters and shrimp. Absolutely delicious and generous portions! The rest of our group was very happy with their choices too.

The food was amazing! Very authentic Cajun flavor. Staff made us feel like we were family even though we just wandered in from the Interstate. Servings were plentiful and the music was straight from the French Quarter.

We were in MEMPHIS looking for Elvis when hunger hits. Picked up the phone, hit the App, and in 45 min. we thought we were eating in Louisiana Bayou. Gary Williams (owner) prepared a delicious meal for us, was served outside in their street dining area. It was just a great time.
Although they only have a limited beer selection it was great dining experience.

Well done Gary and to your staff

Please see my fuller review in trip advisor. It was OK food but the service was all over the place. The waiter Has wasn't very good at all. It is small portions compared to other places we are in Memphis.

My wife and I had dinner at DeJavu on a Friday night at their Main Street location. The food was great and the staff and Chef Gary worked hard to make sure our evening was unforgettable. My wife and I had a fantastic time and will certainly be back in the very near future.

Especially recommend the gator stew and the bread pudding.

The servers and staff were attentive and their sense of humor added to the fun.

Chef Gary's visit to our table was a nice touch.

Our party checked in on time at 6:15. Three servers took our drink order (2 waters, sweet tea, diet coke), which took 20 minutes to fulfill. We ordered vegan tacos as an appetizer. The tacos came n, with only 3 tortillas. We needed plates and one more tortilla as there were 4 in our party. We tried to get attention of the staff. Finally, my Aunt got plates from the waiters station herself. We were unable to get our 4th tortilla. We ordered dinner at 6:30; 3 vegetable plates, and one BBQ Tofu. No special orders. one hour later at 7:30 we asked for our meal , that we had not received to be boxed to go. At 7:40 we had not received our dinner. My party had to leave to make the show at the Orphum, we did not get to eat dinner. It was really bad because our party had driven over an hour and a half to join us for dinner and in one hour 45 minutes that we were there, our dinner was never served. We ran out of water several times., and left hungry.

Food beyond impressive. Servers all friendly. Owner went around to all tables to check on customers. Customers next to us were Ireland. Owner comped them several sides (okra and collard greens) as they didn't know what these items were. Definitely worth another visit.

I took my group of nine from work to celebrate the holidays. I have two vegetarians in the group which were thrilled with the special section of the menu. Everyone in the group enjoyed the food and the atmosphere of the place. The portions were large enough that several took a little home for later. Was a little too loud at lunch to hear from one end of table to other but each we were able to talk with the friends around us. Look forward to visiting again.

Went for Downtown Dining Week and was really disappointed. I love the food at De Javu..it's awesome, but the portions were embarrassingly small for the downtown dining week tasting menu. It literally looked like something you'd get off the kids menu (or even smaller). After our meal my husband and I literally walked down the street to Local and ordered a second dinner because we were still hungry. Glad this wasn't my first experience or I definitely wouldn't have been back.

Made reservations during the Downtown Dining Week 2014 and took friends. My husband & I ordered 3-courses for $20.14 and our friends ordered from the menu. With the same catfish order as their's, we were served 1/3 the serving size as our friends!! What a disappointment!! We ordered the vegetable soup cup and bread pudding dessert. The thin, watery soup was not up to par in taste or in size as was the tiny bread pudding. Our friends spent the same amount as we did on food as we did, but they received a much larger quantity of their entree. I ordered ther smoothered okra that was delicious and the cafish was delightful. (I've had lunch at the Florida Street location and was in heaven with their tasty offerings and serving sizes.) I will never go back
with a "specially priced menu," since we got short-changed. The service was spectacular and very enjoyable, especially with Derrick who sang with a terrific voice, great smile and the desire to please in serving us. His working staff kept our water glasses filled and continued to take excellent
care of our needs with politeness and professionalism. We will return but not on discounted nights.

We went to DeJaVu during Downtown Dining Week. We ordered from the special menu. I felt that the food was good, but not outstanding. It was nothing special. The thing that bothered me most was the small portions. I did not feel it was a meal worth $20.14.

There were many things on the regular menu that look very tempting. I will try one of those the next time that I go back.

Our waiter was wonderful.

We enjoyed a warm welcome and wonderful service, including some fun banter with our waitress. The meal was excellent. I especially enjoyed the gator bites. Sadly, they were out of the fried plantains, which are rumored to be superb. As we were finishing up dinner and thinking about the cold walk outdoors in front of us, the waitress brought out a delicious warm peach cobbler. She was so nice! The cold walk was a bit warmer, both with the cobbler in our tummies and the great staff serving out down south Cajun cooking and hospitality.

Love this place. One of my top three places to eat in Memphis. Bring all out of town guests here every chance I get. Great food that is fit for all dietary types including vegetarians and vegans. Service is fast and everyone is extremely friendly and accommodating. Great all round eating experience all the way from appetizers to desserts. Don't pass up on the desserts!
