We were wowed by the quality of the food; the attentive service; the creative presentation. This will be a "go to" restaurant for us in the future in NYC.
I could not have had a nicer experience. The Maitre d made us feel welcomed from the moment that we walked in the door. The wait staff were knowledgeable about the food, wine etc. and did not "talk down" to us. I had friends visiting from out of town and this has been my "go to" place for fine and elegant dining.
We were there late, after a show. We were seated in the bar area, which was okay since they obviously were not expecting a big crowd. Our pate appetizer was just right, as were the breads, the wines, and the orecchiette (although it would have been better had it been hot). The dB burger, though, was disappointing—also not close to being served hot. But generally just sort of a mess. Not quite bad, but far from worth its price tag! I enjoyed my Clarke burger on 3rd Ave. much more at half the price on the following evening. We also much more enjoyed our pre-theatre martinis next door at the Algonquin!!
Fabulous, delicious wine, good food, the portions were just right, almost too much food. Short walk to the theater, worth leaving the craziness of Times Square. Great Value, well trained staff. Hits all the important marks on my list.
Not bad. Tried the Coq au Vin, a bit over done and concentrated, therefore a bit too dry and salty.
Glass of Reisling was good.
Cold cuts were good too.
The food and service are outstanding. They treat you like a special guest. The tables for two are not typical NYC tiny crammed spaces, but decent size to allow for a comfortable experience.
Very nice wine list with plenty of wines by the glass and excellent choice of great wines as well as moderately priced wines.
Lovely and lively room perfect for catching up with out of town family. Will go back. Very professional service and good atmosphere.
A great pre theater dinner. Great cocktail, delicious meal, outstanding service. What more do you want? We will be back!
Ordered the specialty of the house, the DB Burger. Waited an exceptionally long time for it to be served (particularly since we informed the restaurant that we had show tickets. It was served ice cold and so were the fries. Waited a long time for another. Same thing. Had to go to the show hungry. The restaurant was not even crowded yet so there was no excuse.
We had lunch here, and it was such a wonderful meal. The place has a cool, hip vibe, but also a hint of old world charm in the main dining room. (For conversation privacy, ask for the tables in the middle along the wall.) The service was not as excellent as it should be for a $200 lunch. For example, we had to ask for our bottled wine to be poured when both our glasses were empty during the meal, as well as for desert/coffee menus after our plates had been cleared. Generally I don't like to have to "flag" a waiter down in a great restaurant. But the food is so outstanding that we were not upset. The salad we shared with poached shrimp was clever, and the scallops were truly the best I have ever had, and I lived in NYC for seven years!! My husband's mushroom orchiette was also unique and flavorful. We especially appreciated how light and fresh everything was with little to no salt. We love Daniel Boulud and his talent, and this place does him proud. We will long remember this experience, and can hardly wait to go back! Thank you so much db Bistro Moderne.
Great pre-theater menu and service!
Consistently great food , service and atmosphere !
Our favorite go to for pre/post theater dining. An oasis of culinary perfection...The staff are an amazingly cohesive group who make each experience here memorable.
The food was great! We loved the foie gras and Coq au vin . The staff helped make our small celebration more special.
Lovely weekend brunch with a classy crowd (no rowdy bottomless brunch vibes). Service was spot on and all of the portions were generous and satisfying. Would come back again and try more of the menu items.
The food was delicious and the service was really terrific -- attentive, thoughtful, friendly and not intrusive. They made a special brunch truly special.
The food is always exceptional here. Everything tastes so good!
In town for a meeting but going to the theatre after dinner.
What can I say except C’est magnifique! What a gem of a bistro! From the greeting at the door to the final sendoff, the service here is exceptional. The food presentations were masterful. The salmon was done expertly well with the kale and rye, a combination of flavors married beautifully together. I love visiting the city and so glad I made reservations weeks ago.
We had a wonderful pre-theatre dinner. It's not cheap, but the service was excellent, the food delicious, and they easily got us out in time for the show, without rushing us at all. Recommended.
I’ve dined here twice on recent trips to NYC, both times for a pre theatre meal, both times with a reservation. On both occasions the restaurant was nearly empty upon my arrival, yet both times the maitre d first tried to seat me near the bar. When I requested to be seated in the dining room, I was left standing while he went back to check his computer. Next (again, both times) I was led to a table directly beside the kitchen, which was very noisy (no doors leading into the kitchen merely curtains). When I requested a table away from the kitchen, he again left me standing while he returned to his computer to check availability. Did I mention the dining room was empty and I had a reservation (both times)? The attitude was one of, “how dare you question my choice of table for you!”. Once seated, meal proceeded without incident. Food is decent, wait staff very efficient and pre theatre menu a good value, but I don’t plan to return due to snootiness of maitre d.
Wonderful pre theater dining experience. Favorite meal of my 5 day New York trip. Very attentive staff, excellent food and drinks from appetizers through dessert. And very happy with the price!
My second visit to this location, I come from Texas and Love DB!
The food is excellent, the space is comfortable and the service is very good.
It’s a good restaurant for pre-theater dining or a business dinner, but nothing much beyond that.
Dined here pre-theater for my Mom’s birthday. The staff was very attentive, had us out in plenty of time for the show, and brought out an extra dessert which was a kind gesture. The food was delicious.
After cancelling due to two, separate snow storms, my friend and I were finally able to dine at DB Bistro moderne. We were seated in the front of the restaurant where it was quiet and we were able to catch-up. The menu was updated since an earlier visit and, as usual, the choices were all excellent. We were treated to a hummus appetizer as our entrees were running late. (We were so relaxed that we hardly noticed! ) It's a little touch but the kind of care and attention that makes all the difference to any business. It was greatly appreciated. My friend had a shrimp salad and I had the orecchette . Wonderful!
We shared the Madeleines for dessert. All in all, a great meal and we are looking forward to our next one.
Noisy and small portions.
Gracious service, food very, very good. Always consistent.
Excelente!!! Mucho mejor que el café Boulud ( que es del mismo dueño obviamente)
Everything was excellent. Food, wine, ambiance. We had a great time.
We have been to DB Moderne many times. This evening was exquisite. They outdid themselves in every way. Great service, great food.
A fantastic evening with delicious food, unbelievable service and consideration. Outstanding!
Food was excellent. Service was great. Pricing was a bit high. Really enjoyed it though!
Excellent pre-theater lunch. The menu is not extensive but there are good choices and the portions are the perfect size for lunch. Nice ambience and friendly service. We returned for happy hour with half prized drinks and appetizers. Great location away from the crowds but close to Broadway theaters.
Perfect. Great find in the theater district.
There was a super long wait between the two courses of our dinner. We did not order drinks (one person under 21), so we were left to our own devices for too long and we had to ask for the second curse to be brought otherwise we would miss the Broadway show. Food was OK.
This was our second time to dine here. We really liked it the first time went last April. Unfortunately, both the food and the service was much better the first time. Our waiter didn’t even tell us his name nor did he go over the menu when we first sat down this go around.
Would still recommend this place based on our original experience.
We ordered a variety of starters since we have eaten here several times - and shared among the three of us. Had some nice wine and good conversation. Especially enjoyed the escargot fricassee and the charcuterie plate. ...and a good salad and the Roman artichokes. Comfortable
in a booth and not too loud.
