db Bistro moderne
Located one block east of Times Square in New York City, db bistro is the perfect spot for pre- and post-theater dining, a Midtown business lunch or breakfast “à L’Express”.
It was here that Daniel Boulud launched the gourmet hamburger craze in 2001 that took the world by storm. The DB Burger, stuffed with red wine-braised short ribs and foie gras, continues to be a main attraction.
Our handsome bar area features a seasonal menu of dishes that can be enjoyed with exceptional wines and cocktails.

Excellent food and attentive service. The lady at the entrance could have been a bit nicer, she kept a steady pinched face throughout our exchange and the same when we left - maybe she just didn’t like us!
Meets the standard set by Daniel Boulud at all his restaurants
Pate en crute excellent
Hazelnut French toast was amazing
Beautiful dining room - kinda close quarters
Excellent all around.
Our hats off to the chef!
Great food and ambiance. Service was attentive but not intrusive.
Loved the atmosphere! Full of energy!!! The sole was divine!!!! The hamburger with braised ribs was out of this planet. Eating at the bar was a great experience. Great place!!!!
This used to feel like a special place but No longer— we had to ask repeatedly for coffee, water, everything and the food took forever to come. It was good but not nearly good enough to justify the utter neglect
Excellent place for pre or after theatre dining. Friendly service and attentive staff and elegant ambiance. Excellent midtown spot.
Very pleasant and very busy, but nothing at all special.
The warm Camembert appetizer excellent , big and filling. Two of us split. Coq au Vin just not a flavor for me. Apple dessert tasty. Service attentive. Wait area near the door cramped, you are just in everyone’s way. Room itself was chilly - wife needed to put layers back on. Service at all levels very nice and attentive / from check in to table thru departure.
DB Bistro Moderne never disappoints. Although I found the endive salads to be a little heavy, everything was just great. We love the lively atmosphere, upscale crowd, attentive and friendly service in a beautiful setting. Just a class place for lunch. DB always has perfect desserts that are beautifully prepared. The tartin was delicious.
We love this spot, they never disappoint! Food, service, ambiance all were perfect. Must haves are the escargot, coq au vin, and dirty martinis!!
Glorious food for a lovely pre theatre lunch! So for my Bday we went here prior to an amazing performance of Network ( don’t miss this!) . We shared the duck proscuitto salads; then I had the amazing DB Burger ( yes, $35 but perfectly prepared, tasty, huge and great fries!) and my spouse had the chicken paillard, perfectly cooked with an Asian flair. Our cousins had a huge kale salad, the flatbread, and a gorgeous croque monsieur. Had a lovely sparkling rose, and then was surprised by a plate full of warm madeleines with a birthday candle. Great meal- pre-theatre at its best!!
Impossible to talk
The entry room seems less noisy
Very disappointed. Food quality was fair at best. Far too expensive for what we had. Have eaten at DB before... this was really a waste of money
Our brunch today at db Moderne was wonderful! The food, service and ambiance was as much as we could have hoped for our long overdue family catch up. Even though it was Sunday morning and the restaurant was packed, there was nothing more that the staff could have done to improve the experience. Order the Shakshuka- you won’t be disappointed.
Service was the worst I've seen in years at any New York restaurant. We had a party of seven people for Sunday breakfast and had made a reservation a week in advance. When we go there the table had only five place settings and we had to ask for two more and we were sitting there a long time before they even brought menus. We had to ask for EVERYTHING--place settings, menus, coffee orders, food orders, et al. Positively the worst. Would never recommend this place for anything and will never, ever return.
Bistro Moderne is our go-to restaurant for special occasions. Everything about it is magical and the entire staff make you feel like royalty. The cuisine is impeccable imaginative. Thank you for a perfect evening!
Our 2nd visit and the food and service was excellent. We will return again when we next visit New York .
Food unimaginative. Fries were good - everything else mediocre.
I chomped down on a healthy helping of glass in my meal. Left immediately. Thank god I didn’t swallow it.
Love the place! When I come to Manhattan DB Modern is my first choice
I have eaten numerous times at dbBistro and have been most satisfied, but last Thursday's dinner was exceptional! I ordered from the prix fixe menu - celery root soup, hanger steak with roasted potatoes and muhrooms, frisee and watercress salad, and a pomegranate tatin. the joy began with the amuse-gueule: 4 or 5 very thin slices of duck salami (or something like that) with a zingy mustard and petits cornichons. Along with the roll I had selected from the bread dish, it was fantastic, and enough to satisfy me for the evening - but that was just the beginning. THe celery root soup was light and frothy, the hanger steak cooked to perfection, and the roasted potatoes tiny explosions of perfect potato flavor (was duck fat somehow involved?). An unbelievable meal that made me sway with happiness. And then there was the dessert - just enough, and just the right combination of sweet and taart, smooth and crumbly. This was a meal I will relive eating for a long, long time.
Like spending a pleasant 90 minutes in a Paris bistro. Friendly and knowledgeable staff and good wine list
I was really looking forward to eating at db Bistro moderne. Atmosphere was good and the service very good yet the food was uninspired. I had hanger steak that had a parsley pesto sauce that was nasty. I had to scrape it off and was going to ask for ketchup to mask the flavor. The fingerling potatoes were over done. I won't go back.
Last lunch date in New York. I had an amazing lobster salad & a wonderful flour-less molten chocolate cake. My husband had the amazing, extravagant dB burger with truffles & fries. Had a lovely corner table from which we had views of all the comings & goings. Great people watching Place. And a nice place to dine when a long flight away home to follow!! Wonderful ending to an extended stay in Brooklyn & Manhattan!
Hosted a breakfast meeting for seven people. Generally, service was timely and attentive, but it was a cold day and there appeared to be no coat check. So, everyone crowded their coats next to them or on an unused table in the middle of the room. Trying to fit seven coats and bags in a small space was not fun.
We threw the staff a curve by arriving 30 minutes early for our reservation, due to unforeseen circumstances. They were a bit flummoxed by our early arrival, but we were perfectly willing to dine at the communal table at the bar, where we were soon accommodated—very hospitable staff. Food was superb, and the staff were very accommodating (my well-behaved young nephew was in tow with our dining party). The sommelier selected a terrific bottle of wine for us, and a good value at that. A wonderful restaurant, always. Tuna tartare was fantastic, as were the steak frites, Dover sole, and blanquette de veau. (My only *slight* complaint was that seemingly every passing staff member bumped or brushed the back of my chair. But then again, it’s a bistro and I’m a big guy). Not my first visit, won’t be my last. Thank you!
Been many times. This was amongst the best!
The staff was great. We had a great 1/2 bottle of Chateaunuf du pape. The bread is awesome. The apps were great. The Dover sole was the best we've ever had. So close to Bryant Park! I highly recommend eating here after visiting Winter Village at BP!
Terrific meal, first rate service and cuisine
The soup was great
The meat was not flavory at all
Great dissapointment being a DB
Even If it s a bistro
Welcoming staff on a rainy night, walked into a lovely space. We had a short amount of time as we had tickets to the theater. Our service was swift and polite and the coq au vin and risotto was delicious. Will return for a more leisurely dinner at this pretty, but not pretentious restaurant!
Went with a friend for brunch on Sunday. The atmosphere and staff were great. We enjoyed the food as well. We had the kale and quinoa salad to start, it is a main but we split it as an appetizer. It was delicious. We also had the steak and eggs and the chicken with salad. My only small complaint is the salad on the chicken was overdressed. If you order that, maybe get the salad dressing on the side. We split the madelines for dessert, excellent. They come out freshly baked and they are mini, a nice little bowl full. Overall, I would recommend. enjoy!
The service was excellent though a little slow--actually that suited us because one of our party was busy and running late so it worked out fine! Another guest had the signature db burger--he's 19 years old and very venturesome, having never had fois gras before--but enjoyed every bit of it! This was my third time visiting db Bistro Moderne, being an out-of-towner (Bostonian), and I always enjoy returning here.
I would have given it a 5 overall except that it was too noisy!
Our most heavily reserved restaurant pre theater. They always get us out in time and the service is friendly, fast, accurate. Fun crowd, reasonable prices, always some exciting dishes on the menu to try. We had truffle risotto this time out (among other things of course) and it was stellar!
doesn't bering anything to the table to go back again or recommend this restaurant
Totally engaging experience. Front of the house was warm and welcoming, rivaled only by the professionalism and warmth of servers. Rather than a boring brunch menu, food was creative and delightful. Tasty and plated beautifully. Particularly enjoyed the pumpkin soup -- like sipping a cloud. And our persimmon tart was both gorgeous to the eye and the taste buds. A marvelous, interesting brunch.
Service and food are wonderful. Cocktails are creative and delicious. 3 course Prix Fixe menu is a great option. The only thing that I did not care for was that their tables for 2 are extremely close together and one person has their back to a wall, so unless you are very petite, it's very awkward to leave that seat to use the restroom etc. It's almost impossible to do without bumping the neighboring table. You are also so close to the tables beside you that you hear every word of their conversation and it's a bit distracting. We've had people next to us ask us questions about our conversations. There is zero privacy at those tables and it cannot be a romantic dinner for 2.
