In 1985, at the young and ambitious age of 24, Steve DiFillippo purchased a locally-owned family restaurant called Davio’s on Newbury Street in Boston’s trendy Back Bay. As Boston’s culinary tastes evolved, he transformed the location into a destination. He retooled the menu, the space, the wine list. The new Davio’s soon garnered rave reviews.

Been here a few times as well as other locations. Food and beverages are always well done. Tonight the service was slow and understaffed. Would go again for special occasion but prices higher now so not a weekly splurge anymore.

We typically eat at the Boston location and found the location in Chestnut Hill not up to the usual standard. While the food was still excellent, the service was well below other locations (less attentive, less friendly) . We will eat at Davios again but most likely back in Boston.

We have dined many times over the years at Davio’s in Newton but this time it was not a pleasant experience. The restaurant was freezing, and despite having asked to turn up heat, the overhead vent kept blowing cold air. Also something new which was serving overly sugared popovers. No other bread choices for brunch. Not everyone eats sugary foods. The plain popovers would be a better choice. But to have only one offered that is overdosed in sugar? Simply not a good choice.

Celebrated birthday for wife/mom. Table was ready - but we opted to sit at bar. Great decision. Bartenders were attentive and welcoming. Food was great. Will be back soon.

Service was good; wine selection was disappointing (no French reds by the glass?!!). The steaks were perfectly cooked but unnecessarily salty. We looked forward to a perfect risotto and had to send it back because it was very undercooked. Seems to have a lack of a chef’s oversight in the kitchen. A poor showing for the high cost of dining here.

Made reservations to celebrate my husband's birthday which was also on Thanksgiving. We had a fantastic experience! Truly unforgettable. The service was phenomenal! From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and attentive. Our server Nick provided award-winning service! Nick was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, offering great recommendations and ensuring we had everything we needed throughout the meal. My husband said he must have been in the kitchen practicing his speech and learning the menu just for us a while before he came out and put on a show while presenting the deserts. Great spread by the way. We never get desert, but Nick and whoever put that display together got us to do it! The molted chocolate cake is everything! Nick even added "Happy Birthday" to the plate but didn't make a whole thing about and my husband appreciated that. The timing of the service was perfect – not too rushed, allowing us to enjoy each course, and not too slow, keeping the meal flowing smoothly. The staff's friendliness and professionalism added to the overall positive atmosphere. I appreciated the attention to detail, from the well-set tables to the prompt clearing of empty plates. What stood out the most was the genuine warmth and hospitality we experienced that it being Thanksgiving. Not only it being very busy but appreciated the whole team being away from their families to serve ours. It's evident that the team values customer satisfaction. I highly recommend this restaurant for not only its delicious food but also its outstanding service. I will definitely be returning and look forward to another enjoyable dining experience.

It was definitely a lovely place to be on Thanksgiving and our service couldn’t have been better. The food was a bit better than okay, but the gravy was too salty and it was just one big plate of food for $85. However, the vegetables (carrots and beans) were crisp and done well. Not exactly value. I would recommend it for a pleasant place to be and a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. But not the best possible food. Good enough, though.

My first experience was at the Braintree location. So I was nervous about trying a different location on a holiday. Consistency is important. Well Chestnut hill Davio's did not disappoint. My family was VERY pleased with my suggestion. Best Bolognese I've ever had. We'll be back. Thanks for a superb Holiday dinner.

Good experience overall, we were there at opening on a Sunday so not too busy. one criticism is on the apple smoked chicken pasta one of us ordered. WAY to much smoke, over powered the dish, we could all smell her meal it was that strong.

It was really good. The only thing that kept it from being excellent was the noise. We sat at the last booth closest to the kitchen. Trays crashing the entire time. If I return I will request not to sit at that table nearest the end of the bar.

My husband and I went to Davio's in Chestnut Hill for our anniversary. The food was delicious, especially the burrata and prosciutto salad, the veal tenderloin, and the warm chocolate cake. Our waiter, Richard M., was friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back!

We arrived at 7:35pm for a 7:45pm reservation. There was a severe back-up in the kitchen and we didn’t get our entree till 9:30pm! The waiter was very empathetic and comped us for dessert and cappuccino, but the restaurant should have been better staffed, as there were 2 events, plus this was a Friday night.

One of our favorite “go to” dining options in Newton. We love to eat at the bar and chat with the bartenders and other guests. The pasta is outstanding; they know how to cook steak properly and the short ribs are to die for. We’ll be back. Again and again
