The New York Times … “an intelligent hand in the kitchen of the sort you would find in better New York restaurants for half as much.. The Portland Press Herald… “This restaurant is doing amazing things and at the same time keeping prices reasonable-Four and a Half Stars!” Portland Magazine …“Truly a spectacular meal” “Best of New England 2008” – New England Travel
This is our go-to restaurant for upscale dining. The service is friendly (sit at the Chef's bar!), and you're always assured amazing, fresh & locally sourced food!
Great food-good service ❣️
We only went for lunch, so didn't try any entrees. The PEI mussels though were delicious, sauce was really good and tasty. I had the crab roll, which could have used a little more crab for the cost, and there was a big shell in it, but overall not a bad sandwich. Good ambiance, lunch crowd wasn't too loud.
Delicious, full-flavored food. Friendly, personable service.
I had the filet and it was cooked perfectly! Sadly, I also had half a dozen oysters and they were not served on ice and seemed to be almost room temperature....I was very disappointed by them. Overall, it was an okay meal but definitely overpriced even for Portland. I would expect oysters to be served on ice at this price point! Would probably not return as there are tons of amazing restaurants around.
Everything was delicious!
Fabulous food and a great atmosphere. Our friends really enjoyed it!
Excellent service, food and drink! A wonderful experience.
Trendy cuisine. Popular place, make sure to make a reservation.
Sirloin was amazing. The Mediterranean shrimp and scallops with rice lacking balance of flavors
Very good service, great atmosphere, excellent food. I’ve recommended David’s already to 2 of my friends. And the Lady Liberty excellent!
The food was excellently prepared and absolutely delicious - so much so, we went back two days later. The menu offered plenty of variety and satisfied our guests with traditional and adventurous tastes alike. The service was also outstanding.
Simply outstanding food the night we were there!
My wife and I go to David's quite frequently just the two of us, and it is always great, but recently we had a larger group for a special event. Not only did they live up to the standards we have come to expect, they really went above and beyond. Our server recognized us as regular guests and really went out of her way to make it a special evening. Everyone in the party who had not been there before raved about the food, service and ambiance. Thanks
My first time at David’s. I felt welcome and well attended to. The crispy duck was delicious but not so crispy. I like the little things. Room temperature water helps me better enjoy my meal. We were seated at one of the smaller rooms in the back. The dinner rolls were unlike any I have had.... a little crispy and lightly flavored with cheese. Good beer!
This was our first visit to David's. GPS was not precise in explaining the exact location on the pedestrian mall on Monument Square. We ended up being 5 minutes late for our reservation but were promptly seated. Creative menu, which is what we wanted. Piping hot Garlic Knots were presented. They were good but literally soaked in butter/olive oil. A bit much. We enjoyed David's famous Clam Chowder and Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Both were superb and we would order again. The Brussel Sprouts were almost addictive. My only complaint: the sweetness of the marinade was not completely balanced by the salt of the bacon lardons.
My husband ordered the Lobster Ravioli, which was described as open-faced. It was delicious but should have been called a Seafood Ravioli, since it was predominately Scallops and Shrimp with perhaps three small pieces of Lobster. I ordered the evening's special: Halibut wrapped in pancetta with fingerling potatoes and an aromatic sauce. The sauce was delicious. The Halibut would have benefited from the pancetta being roasted around it and possibly being soaked in the herbal sauce. The upper piece of the ample portion was bland in taste, despite the pancetta drape. The bottom piece of the halibut had soaked up some of the sauce and was delicious. Both entrees would have been improved with slight changes in execution.
Food was creative and delicious. I had the Haddock topped with crab and finished with a blueberry/lavender gastrique. David's will certainly be included on our next trip to Portland.
Had an amazing experience and will definitely go back if I’m ever in Portland again.
Loved our lunch and service. Charming restaurant and our waiter was terrific. Next time we're in Portland will definitely return.
Every dish was divine! There were six of us and everyone loved their dinner and drinks. Best calamari of my life, we had to get a second order. Brussel sprouts were delicious. We all got various seafood plates and all were perfectly cooked. Service was impeccable. There was plenty of room at our table which worked out perfectly because we ate a lot of food! My only complaint is that we should've made reservations for both nights :) We'll be back.
Great food and service. We will definitely be coming back!
Great menu with excellent food. Would definitely go back again and again. One of the best in Portland.
We love David ‘s for Great fresh inventive food and wonderful service.
The Exotic Mushroom Ravioli was exceptional, the best ravioli I've ever had. The ice cream dessert was amazing. This was a wonderful dining experience for us. Doug
WOW! The food was fantastic and unique, service was great, and drinks were fun as well! I think it’s a great value too, this restaurant is a bit out of my boyfriend and I’s typical price range but it was SO worth it. Will absolutely come back next time I’m in Portland.
My boyfriend and I went to dinner Friday and it was so amazing. It was graduation weekend so it was very busy, they sat us in the back room with a couple big groups of parties- I asked our seat to be moved since we felt we were in the middle of a grad party and they moved us no questions asked to the front of the restaurant and it was perfect. We had the mussels to start, the steak tartar, for entrees I got the duck special and he got a salad with grilled shrimp we were not disappointed in any of the food and the drinks were great too!
Love the potsticker and beef salad. My friends had caesar salads and said they were bland and not very good. The clam chowder was odd, would not order again.
Great dinner at the counter, and a very good vegan entree.
David’s was the perfect combination of an upscale delicious meal in a relaxing, decorous atmosphere . We loved everything about it.
All of David Turin's restaurants are predictably outstanding.
Wonderful meal, professional service and warm ambience. Perfect for a special occasion.
Cute place. Food was good and cooked to our specifications. Drinks were tasty too. Staff were polite and attentive.
We were a large party for Mother’s Day. We all had a wonderful brunch which was enjoyed by all.
Great restaurant. Group of 5 -everyone loved the menu choices with 3 persons that had dietary issues. Very accommodating and food was delicious. Some of us did dinners and some did combination of appetizers. Highly recommend. Very small restaurant so definitely make reservations ahead of time. Good cocktail menu and wine listing as well. Didn’t have room for dessert.
One of the best meals I've ever had. And the broth for the mussels was exquisite. I'll be back for sure!!
The food was wonderful. I had requested a quieter table and we were seated at a table that seemed right in the way of other tables and the tasting bar. I didn’t say anything and should have. Of note- several of the dishes had quite a kick that was not mentioned on the menu. Being unable tolerate hot / spicy ingredients I was disappointed. The strawberry salad and Moroccan Shrimp were culprits. Next time I will remember to ask details.
David’s was wonderful. A little expensive, but worth the price. The food was amazing. I had the steak and my date had the haddock and crab. The staff were friendly. The only down side was that we were seated next to a large party who were loud. I don’t blame the restaurant for that though. Just know that is a very popular spot so it might get loud.
Our 2nd time eating here and loved much like the 1st!! Food is off the charts good, the flavors are mouthwatering. I eat out all over the Country and have come to love a great experience from start to finish and David’s lives up to this!! Great Job to the chefs and wait staff👍🏽
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, really nice appetizers!
Perhaps this is a great place if you get the right table and don't mind the price/portion ratio. I found it loud and uncomfortable and a bit high for the portion size.
