Located at the foot of Portland’s arts district on Monument square, Portland Maine David Turin, Chef / Owner moved David’s to this historic location in 1998. The restaurant is tastefully and creatively decorated update to the “Great Fire” surviving building which housed the presses for The Portland Telegram Newspaper at the turn of the century. The open kitchen allows diners to watch the creation of meals which feature the bounty of regional resources prepared without culinary boundaries. David’s cuisine has one foot in tradition and another in the contemporary influences of many of the world’s great cuisines.

Visiting Portland, Maine from the northwestern US with limited time and input about food and culture, we dined at David’s Restaurant and found the food and ambiance quite pleasing. We would dine again given half a chance. We had the calamari for starters, my wife had the grilled duck breast (special), I had the mushroom ravioli - both were delightful and recommended. Service was good - but server a little snooty. Give it a shot.

Great meals, beautiful setting and friendly service. Filet was undercooked (was ordered medium, was closer to rare) but seafood dishes were excellent, especially mussels and shrimp/scallop skewers.

David’s was a very nice surprise. We were seated at our scheduled time and the waitress was very attentive. The food was tasty and it was a nice experience for us. I had the crispy duck and my wife had the lobster ravioli and they were both very well prepared. We would both recommend this restaurant.

The mushroom ravioli is DIVINE!! As was my dinner companion's meatloaf. They were busy the night we dined so the wait time between courses was a bit slow but it was worth the wait !!

Great meal. I had the baked stuffed haddock and my husband had the Caesar salad with scallops and shrimp on a skewer. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The homemade ice cream sandwich for dessert was delish!

We chose to dine at David's because it was one of the only places that we were even able to get a reservation at. Even then, the reservation was for 8:15 pm and for the patio in October. We lucked out and the night was warm. We saw that they had a heater for the patio but they didn't have to use it.

Our table was ready when we arrived. The waitress arrived after a fairly short time and asked if we were ready. I think it must have been a long night for her. Though she wasn't surly she wasn't particularly pleasant either. Might just as well have been ordering fast food.

I ordered a gin basil smash for my drink and the open faced lobster ravioli for my entrée. The gin basil smash was okay. It was a large drink so that was good but I though it could use more basil flavor, though there seemed to be plenty of basil in the drink. Confusing. The open faced lobster ravioli is an interesting dish for sure. Basically the lobster ravioli is used as the "bread" and then there are scallops, shrimp and veggies in a sherry cream sauce on top of the raviolis. It too was good and a decent sized serving but again just missed the mark in flavors. Maybe it needed some seasoning. Not really sure but overall it was an enjoyable meal.

Everything was delicious. We started with garlic knots and mussels. Sauces were amazing. Lobster ravioli, shrimp & scallop skewers and tuna were our entrees. Loved it all.

Food was good. Service was not . Staff didn’t care.. server dropped 1/2 the sandwich bun on the floor, never bothered to bring another bun. Asked for ketchup, never saw it. Couldn’t wait to get out of there. Won’t go back .. too many other restaurants to visit.

It was so good that we ate there 2 days in a row. First night my wife declared she had the best meal of her life. Why would I consider anywhere else. We had the Open face lobster ravioli, shrimp and scallop skewer and the Portland sirloin. All perfect. Only reason we not there tonight, we left for home

The food was delicious. We had the Burrata, Haddock & Crab, and the Ahi Tuna.

However, we were rushed to order and didn’t have a pleasant service/dining experience. Our reservation was for 8:45 (per their option on open table), but the kitchen closed at 9. Make sure to come well before closing.

From the time we were seated the staff was exceptional. Our server (Nelson) was amazing, attentive, and very pleasant. Our dinners were made to perfection and our deserts were incredible.

Great location. Warm and welcoming. Nice wine list. Had the crispy Brussel sprouts. They were delicious. Soo good. Garlic knots were tasty. For dinner I had seared tuna with the burrata caprese salad. It was very fresh and the tuna was cooked perfectly. Cannot wait to go back.

We met friends at David's who we hadn't seen in 55 years. The staff was wonderful and didn't rush us. We stayed for over 4 hours! All our meals were delicious.

We ate outside and had street performers juggling fire for entertainment. The food was wonderful from app to dessert. The server was knowledgeable, pace our meal nicely. He gave us information about our indecisiveness in selecting options without making a decision for us. A great trait and seldom witnessed.
