Best restaurant meal I’ve had in a very long time. The space is beautiful and the food was beyond delicious. The charcuterie was a masterpiece, all the more impressive as it’s done in-house with whole animal butchery. Service as good as the food, too, you can tell they take pride in all of it.
I am from South Louisiana - New Orleans and Lafayette-- but live in DC and had high hopes for Dauphine's.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience, considering the hype and difficulty in getting a reservation at 7:30 Wednesday, which we nabbed to celebrate a special occasion. First impression was that the space downstairs is gorgeous. Yet, seating person walked our well dressed party of 4 past a beautiful banquette and other good tables to the worst possible choice upstairs, so we couldn't enjoy the great restaurant and bar scene. Server(s)? efficient but very rushed. The nice order taker literally ran from the table when I paused for a breath...-- she could've sold us so much more. Nor were we "wowed" by the food or uneven service. (Catching her eye was impossible-- they are looking to each other for cues.) Cocktails came slowly. Starters came fast: Dark roux gumbo was tasty but only warmish. Shrimp remoulade interesting, with vinegar and dill, but no actual remoulade sauce. Oysters overpriced, but ok. Bread service nothing special, but with a good demi loaf and biscuit and the largest portion like cheap "Texas toast." Larger dishes and red beans took FOREVER to get, and weren't hot either: Cochon good, but some of the crispy skin inedible, a shame given the smallish size of the portion. The peel-and-eat BBQ Shrimp dish was messy. Big and somewhat flavorless prawns. No redifish or other real NOLA or Gulf Coast fish options. The tilefish bland, but the skate had a pretty good Creole sauce sauce. Red beans got a solid B. We didn't finish the meal until 10:15, so skipped dessert, coffee, aperitifs. This place is probably best enjoyed if you're eating at the bar and can be entertained by the architecture and scene.
So recommend - drinks and space - with reservations - food and service.
A fun place with fabulous service. The best dishes at our table were the gumbo, oysters, and caviar.
Our server was knowledgeable, engaging and professional. The entire staff was friendly, managing to be attentive but not in our way. We enjoyed the food and cocktails. Pricing was reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Enjoyed sitting upstairs with a bird's eye view.
Somewhat complicated seating alternatives. They have traditional inside (airconditioned) bar and seats, and then one section that is "outside" but completely sheltered and with "high top" tables, plus another that is also "outside" but with standard tables. We were in the latter, and it was great. Somewhat quieter than inside.
Great food and a great experience.
The food tasted good, but was overcooked and overpriced for what you get. The waiter was friendly and attentive, but there were probably a dozen unoccupied staff standing around which made it seem like we were being watched the entire time.
Came here for an anniversary dinner and had a great experience! The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is genuinely stunning and I really felt like I was in a part of NOLA. Every dish we had was amazing. Particularly loved the shrimp remoulade salad and oysters spaghetti. We topped off our dinner with the baked alaska dessert and it was perfect. Our server did seem to be in a mood the whole time but the food really made the experience for us. Will come back again for the raw bar and charcuterie :)
I was disappointed. Had to ask for ice and salt and pepper which took forever. We had the duck jambalaya. It was deconstructed. I did not expect that.
Expensive for the amount of food we received
The atmosphere and dining experience were lovely and five stars all around. A New Orleans classic in DC.
Visiting from New Orleans and knowing the concept and Chef we had high expectations for the food and the Dauphine did not disappoint. The food was amazing!! We started with raw oysters and shrimp cocktail. My husband got the Gumbo which had a deep rich roux. I ordered the Hanger steak that was cooked to perfection. Of course we had to end the night with Beginets and Cafe Au Lait. The Beginets were Ok. Not traditional New Orleans bigness, more like a donut, but still delicious. My only complaint was the service was a little lacking. Server started off strong, but we had to ask for the table to be wiped down and he forgot about us and waited about 30 minutes to get our check. Overall a very nice experience.
New Orleans is my absolute favorite city. I’m so glad that it’s captivated in my hometown and I can visit whenever I’m not actually in New Orleans.
Overall, my partner and I were underwhelmed by our experience at Dauphine's. It started out wonderfully, with quick attention and service. We received our bread basket and gumbo shortly after placing our order, along with our drinks. The gumbo, however, was surprisingly thin, more soup-like than stew, and could have been spicier. For our main courses, the oyster bucatini was a fair-sized portion and was satisfying. My partner's steak entree, however, came nearly rare, despite ordering for a medium preparation. Because there was a significant lag time between our appetizers and main course, he didn't want to wait further to have it returned and recooked. We tried to redeem the meal by ordering dessert, however, the baked Alaska was a huge disappointment. The coffee flavor in the coffee ice cream was very overwhelming and the yellow cake at the bottom had an unappealing boozy flavor. The cake was neither moist nor pleasant to eat. Despite hearing such rave reviews, we will likely not be back again.
The birthday dinner for my wife was excellent. Advices for the food and wine were very knowledgeable and good. Thanks a lot!
The highlights of our meal included the charcuterie board especially the liver mousse. The duck jambalaya was good but pricey. But best of all was Andrea, our server, who walked us through the menus and made us feel like her friends. She was not intrusive, she was just interested in making sure that we had the best experience possible.
I went to dinner here with family reluctantly. I just don’t generally gravitate to seafood oriented places. But with some great drinks, I loosened up and found some items on the menu that I liked. I even brazenly order raw swordfish! The outdoor patio near the sidewalk was wonderful on a rare low humidity Washington summer evening.
Great new place in DC. If you’re looking for the Nola experience, look no further
Beautiful location. Food was exceptionally well prepared.
What a treat to eat at this excellent place! We just love the friendly atmosphere and the food is really good.
Place should drop the music- it is already too loud. Fabulous interior. Would benefit from adding a few more traditional French dishes. Service great. Shrimp Remoulade was really a salad with two small shrimps - very good salad but not at $17 price. Oysters and moules outstanding but gumbo mediocre.
Wonderful food - nice variety of sizes of plates and good options within each size. Charcuterie and raw bar excellent. Lovely service. Beautiful room. Totally coming back.
Dauphine's menu is tasty and creative, and the waitstaff cheerfully attentive. However, ignore what their website says about wearing "business casual." The night we dined, attire ranged from dress shirts without ties to raggedy shorts.
l loved everything about this restaurant. Very delicious, fresh, and innovative. Attentive service and amazing ambiance. You will not be disappointed.
Wonderful dinner at Dauphine's. Oysters were superb, drinks were great, small plates got a thumbs up and the entrees were all very good for our table of four. Reasonable price on a nice Burgundy vino. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and offered a few suggestions that were great. Had an after dinner drink/absinth at the bar. Only comment is that the place is loud. Could pull the music back a notch.
Amazing food and drinks, amazing service, and an amazing experience. However, the music volume when dining inside was too high and we had to yell to each other while sitting at our table.
Great food, and great dining experience. Our waiter Issac was amazing. He gave spot on recommendations that did not miss. I love it when a waiter knows his stuff. Kudos, Dauphines and Kudos to Isaac.
Bread was good, desert was excellent, but the Chicken was not good. Gumbo was fine but not great. Wish there was someone who was more familiar with the wine selection.
Overall great night! Gorgeous space. I had the steak, which was good but not remarkable. Wife had gumbo, delish!! Will go again for sure
Everything was great. We got the duck jambalaya and a side of collard greens with the beignets as a dessert.
Loved the energy, environment, presentations and the collateral used for menus! The menu descriptions were very hard to understand but got some guidance from servers. Cocktails didnt have what was inside but more of the history behind said drink. Very fun but I had no idea what I was ordering lol!
Our server Andrea was AMAZING!!! Will go back just to see her again! OH! Also, the food was delicious, and the bread service is Definitely worth it!
Unbelievable seeing the place being built it live up to the hype
The food was good - flavorful and interesting - and the service was excellent. The quality of the food was not in the same class as other restaurants in the same price range. The drink menu was excellent and will absolutely go back for a cocktail.
10/10 would definitely go back again. Great for special occasions.
We dined here to celebrate my boyfriend's 30th Birthday and it did not disappoint! The restaurant itself is gorgeous- they have two outdoor patios - one that is completely covered and one that is courtyard-style. We sat on the covered side which was a bit loud due to ambulance noise coming from across the street at Georgetown medical. It only bothered us a bit.
Drinks were exceptional; they have a variety of cocktails that range in price, in addition to a lengthy wine list. We especially loved the milk punch. Food was amazing too; we were thoroughly impressed by everything we ordered. I wish they didn't charge for the bread service; when you are spending at a restaurant like this, bread service should come complimentary.
The server we had could have been a little bit more personable; I'm sure this will come in time as employees become more confident in this new space. Additionally, I specifically noted that we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday- the server acknowledged this but did not offer any complimentary dessert or treat. Just a note - this didn't disappoint us too much as we had cake at home; just is always nice when restaurants go the extra mile for their guests.
The details at Dauphine's are not to be missed; from the beautiful branding on the menus, to the decor inside... even the branded coasters, pens & pencils.
We are so excited for our next dining opportunity here!
Great space and atmosphere. Food was amazing
We were very impressed with Dauphine. The food and service were great and the outdoor seating area was delightful. We’ll definitely return.
The food is kinda like someone with a head cold had dinner during a layover at the Louis Armstrong airport, then described it to someone who was unfamiliar with spice or flavor who then cooked dinner while crying for no particular reason. On second thought, tears might have given the meal some salt, which would have improved things slightly.
The gumbo had paltry portions, which was ultimately fine because the seafood was so overcooked in flavorless broth that I was glad the server took the bowl. The blackened bluefish was, in fact, fish. I can at least confirm that. I’m told the steak and potatoes were good, but that is hardly cajun/creole. The red beans had more onion than bean and more sauce than substance. The muffeletta charcuterie tray was good enough, but not worth the price. The $7 side of carrots was the high point of my meal. I’m not kidding. On a positive note, the service was excellent and the ambiance was fantastic. This may be a good place to have a drink after work, but steer clear of the food.
We loved the food, the service and the ambiance. Felt great to be back indoor dining.
