Dauphine’s, a restaurant inspired by the playful spirit and iconic cuisine of New Orleans is led by Chef Kristen Essig, who called the city home for over two decades. The Dauphine’s menu pays homage to the diverse cultural influences and rich culinary traditions of New Orleans while utilizing Mid-Atlantic ingredients. The beverage program is developed in partnership with New Orleans native Neal Bodenheimer – owner of Cure, the 2018 James Beard Foundation Award winner for Outstanding Bar Program – and offers a menu of both classics and innovative riffs. The expansive indoor dining features a large sunken dining room anchored by a custom raw bar and wood charcuterie case, a wrought-iron pavilion linking the bar and dining, and an intimate mezzanine with private dining. Bookend by two outdoor spaces, Dauphine's features a 30 seat outdoor bar with a custom New Orleans-inspired tiled fountain and a separate covered dining patio for 80 guests.

Excellent service and beautiful ambience, but the food was really underwhelming. Having lived in New Orleans, I was hoping for more authentic flavors. Sadly, few of the dishes actually came together, with odd flavor and texture combinations (smoked fish dip, bbq shrimp toast). The best items were the roast beef poboy, bread selection and beignets.

Dauphines was great! I loved the New Orleans cuisine and thought they had excellent meals that were unique compared to other places. We especially enjoyed the fried boudin balls (omg so good) and the Oysters Dauphine, although it was all very good!

Always a delight. Charcuterie to large plates are delicious and well executed (we’ll be dreaming of some of those sauces for some time); cocktail and wine options are diverse, unique and tasty.

My wife and I enjoy our visit for date night. We would come back in a blink of an eye. Our server Maria was really knowledgeable of the items on the menu and gave us very helpful recommendations. Thanks for everything 🙏🏾

The food was just incredibly delicious and inventive. And the service was even better; gracious, unobtrusive, knowledgeable, and attentive. Just outstanding. The one off note was dessert - the spice cake with pears was dry as sawdust and the flavor profile was off. The server removed it from the check without our asking. The young woman who was our waitperson was just the best! Everyone really was so hospitable.

Dauphine’s was ALL I expected it to be. My food was fantastic; I had the fried quail. The atmosphere was great and the noise level was such that my friends and I could talk and not be distracted by others conversations. Our server, Courtney R.,was extremely attentive and helpful! My only unfulfilled desire was that during Restaurant Week Dauphine’s advertised warm bread pudding which I was so looking forward to ordering it. Unfortunately, it was not available outside Restaurant Week. Next Restaurant Week, Dauphine’s here I come!!!

The atmosphere/vibe is amazing. We went for lunch during restaurant week. Our soup was Lukewarm but delicious. We had gumbo, catfish, sautéed collard greens and potato salad. Definitely give them a try! #HappyEating

Third time visiting and each time I come I am blown away by the food and the service. This visit I tried the gumbo and it was amazing! My family hails from NOLA and the flavor made me think of home. Can’t leave without trying the beignets. Our server was amazing taking care of a group of 16 with such professionalism and always had a smile. My plan is to keep coming back so I can try something else on the menu!

I made this reservation for my colleagues a few weeks back. I confirmed the reservation via email when prompted to do so. When my colleagues arrived they were told that they did not have a reservation, and that it had been canceled. The reservation had not been canceled by anyone on my team or myself, who is the only one who had access, but in spite of that their team was helpful and assisted getting them sat in the restaurant, I appreciated the fact that, even though there was a miscommunication somewhere within this app that they still took care of my coworkers!

Not enough healthy food options. Food is just okay and for so many great restaurant choices in the DMV, this one just misses the mark for me. I've been twice and both times I was disappointed. Won't be coming back.

The food, and ambiance since we sat outside were excellent! A few of the wait staff were awkward but they got through it. What was most bizarre is the manager came up to the table to check on us and we asked for a dessert menu but he never came back. My friend had to get up and find a dessert menu after waiting around 25-30 minutes. Our waiter also disappeared. We never saw him again. Then one of the awkward fellows brought us beignets after we paid our bill which was really nice.

The restaurant design is really lovely. We ended up eating on the patio, which is fully covered and given DC summers a really nice feature. The service unfortunately was a little spotty. We had to ask for our drinks to be brought to us twice, and they weren't good on refilling the water either. I ordered a la carte an item that was on their prix fix menu and it would have been good if the server told me it was really appetizer sized and not an entree. It was the crawfish etouffe which usually comes in a large bowl but this was a saucer with maybe two pieces of crawfish and the ratio of chopped green onions to other ingredients was not good. My companion got a sandwich which she said was tasty and that was a good size. I would return and hope for better service.

A great dinner at Dauphine’s! Had to insist on being seated in the main dining room, though, after initially being told we’d be seated upstairs in the back. We were accommodated right away, so it all worked out! Every dish was unique and delicious, while paying respect to its Louisiana roots. Lovely ambiance, energetic vibe! Certainly deserving of its culinary reputation!

This was perhaps my fourth visit and the restaurant was a little bit off it's game. We ordered drinks and my cocktail came quickly but my wife's wine took a while. We ordered some raw oysters and the order just disappeared. All of a sudden our entrees came and there was no trace of the order for oysters. They subsequently got them to us quickly, but I am fairly certain that the entrees were just held for us. as they were not as hot as they could have been. The food itself was delicious. Our server, Michael, was a great guy. He comped us on our drinks which was kind. I'll definitely go back, and I recommend the restaurant to anyone, but I have had better experiences there than this most recent visit.
