Overall. the food was excellent and we enjoyed the variety and the quality but this was really overshadowed by the negative service experience. .
We arrived at 11 for the Sunday brunch and the restaurant was virtually empty, yet they seated us in the bar (???) jammed up against another table of five. Both parties were seated at tables for four with the fifth person perched on the end. If someone got up, the corresponding person at the next table either had to get up and exit to let them out or shove in uncomfortably. Although we asked, we were not given the option of any better table.
Silverware was spotted and unclean and 2 of 5 coffee mugs on our table were actually stained and dirty. Bussing service was almost non-existent and at one time we had all our first course plates piled up to the side while we were trying to eat and enjoy our main course. Dinner plates also sat to the side while we squeezed in our desserts.
They definitely did not have this under control in terms of service and for the price, this was really unacceptable.
I'm pretty sure we won't go back.
Food is exceptional - service is very good.
We go here a couple times a year for brunch. The selection is excellent and plenty of fresh fruit and deserts of course. Never dissapointed
Main entrees for dinner a complete disappointment. Our dinners were over cooked. Better for breakfast and brunch.
Tables were dirty on each occasion (3 times). They didn't clean (shake off) crumbs nor food off the placematts on table. Service is good and staff is very nice, however. Beautiful restaurant. I would not consider fine dining at all. For dinner they should have tablecloths.
Attending your delicious brunch is the way we began our 2 day stay at The Waters Edge. It was FABULOUS as always! I am on a low carb meal plan and I had plenty to choose from. My omelette was scrumptious and made beautifully to my specifications!
We will return!
So disappointed in the brunch, especially for the cost. Poor layout on a very busy day such that the long lines waiting at stations caused us to miss seeing the stations until crowds cleared when we were on the way out. No assistance/directions offered from the staff and the food was just "ok"...
Overpriced, tiny portions, service was horrible, waited over an hour for raw oysters, clearly understaffed
Very pleased with brunch yesterday. The food was well prepared and the theme changes weekly. Service was better than usual. Would recommend for a special occasion
Place inside was clean and beautiful.. plenty of of options for food. Will definitely go back again.
We had a great time the food and service where spectacular. The waitress was very friendly and serviceable, she made sure that we had everything we needed. The food was great my wife had salmon with a mango rum sauce and i had a lobster linguine plate they where delicious. It was very romantic and i recommend it for a very romantic evening.
Food and service were both excellent. Background live Piano music was an added plus which made for a very nice evening.
The experience was over all good but they ran out of prime rib and then put out some other kind of meat this happened at 1 pm that was not good
Food was not good. Menu on website was different than what was at restaurant. Steak was dry and flavorless and pasta was too sweet tasted like jarred sauce. Will never eat here again.
We we disappointed in our experience for Christmas Eve brunch. We have spent holidays at this establishment in the past and were pleased. The buffet variety was not as robust as it has been in the past. Very sad.
It was an excellent gathering of relatives fromNYC and Niantic and Old Lyme. We decided to spend a little time enjoying good food, excellent service and perfect aviance.
We are never disappointed at Water's Edge. We are thinking of having our annual family party there. It may run 50-75 people from
All over the country
Eggs were brown and overdone and the bacon had a very strong flavor....chicken was very dry....I would have been happier at a diner with eggs, bacon & homefries for $10.95......
I have been going to the Waters Edge for many years. The service was slow and quality of food as well as value were so disappointing. Beautiful environment...
The restaurant was offering a Pasta Bar that was amazing. Great selection of options to customize your dinner and the price was very affordable. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Very disappointed with the service. We had a waiter with an attitude and in a bad mood! He forgot the bread twice and made mistakes on our appetizers.
We always enjoy our stay, dinners and brunches at Waters Edge summer and winter!
Beautiful setting but food was just mediocre. Prices are high and more in keeping with ambiance than food quality.
Service was terrible and it was only my party of 3 and one other part of 2. How difficult can 2 small parties be to manage. Apparently it was very difficult as we had to ask for more water and drinks multiple times. Food was okay but was not worth the long wait or poor service. Used to dine her often when I lived in the area 6-7 years ago and it was great. However the place always changes chefs the current Italian fare menu is underwhelming.
The price went up fairly dramatically in the last 6 months. Also service was much better when we last went in March. This time we were ignored quite a bit. Also the food selection wasn’t as good as last time.
We have been coming here for our Anniversary for the last 13 yrs and it does not disappoint. The staff is friendly and attentive. Our waiter Michael is the BEST...we met him on our honeymoon and instantly liked him. He is warm, engaging and personable, no wonder he has been there 21 yrs....We will be back for #14 and look forward to seeing Michael and the staff at Waters Edge
First visit and it was disappointing! The view was the best thing about the lunch experience
The place was very lovely, I have been here before, I really enjoyed coming in to the Water's Edge when I am in Old Saybrook for the Summer but went over the labor day weekend and I was not impressed with the food. I will go back again and I hope that they have a new chef that can represent this lovely place.
For our anniversary my Wife and I dined at Dattilo at Water's Edge. We arrived at 7:50pm for an 8:00 reservation and were greeted warmly and promptly seated. By 8:05 we had ordered an appetizer of raw oysters, a bottle of champagne, and our entrees. Although our server was very polite and professional, the service was indeed slow. It took twenty minutes to receive our champagne, 30 minutes to receive our appetizer and our entrees didn't arrive until 9:10, more than an hour after we had ordered. Aside from taking so long, our entrees ranged from mediocre to horrible. My wife ordered the pan seared shrimp over a risotto with asparagus. Her dish was very bland and while not terrible, left a lot to be desired. I ordered the NY Strip with red potatoes and an arugula salad. As a steak lover, I can honestly say that this was the worst piece of steak I have ever eaten. It was slightly under-cooked, which normally I don't mind because I usually order "medium", but it had absolutely no flavor. When I say it had no flavor I mean absolutely no flavor, I couldn't even tell I was eating beef. The potatoes were exactly the same, overcooked to the point that all essence of the potato had been cooked out, and they were flavorless balls of cardboard. Overall it was a huge disappointment. For spending close to $200 for a dinner, I expected the food to at least be "good". The $12 sirloin I had at Denny's that same day for lunch made Dattilo pale in comparison, something I still can't wrap my head around. Needless to say I will not be going back, nor would I recommend this restaurant.
Waters edge experience quite a nice surprise. Location very nice overlooking the water while dining. Staff all very pleasant and food was very good. Would've finitely go back
We felt as though we were on a tropical vacation with the comfort of home minus The hassle of flying. We would definitely come back.
Nice setting, but service was terrible. We waited over an hour for our food which only came when we complained - and it was not even lukewarm, almost cold. Despite the reduction on our bill, we would not return.
It's a good place with nice ambiance and tasty food. The service was very good. One of the very best Italian foods I have ever had.
The desert menu was small but the desert was very good. I tried Tiramisu and it was superb.
Water's Edge was breathtaking with a water view, food was excellent, superior service. I can't wait to go back with the whole family for an overnight stay.
Wife and I went there (Datillo) for our 25th wedding anniversary while on vacation. We were told it might be "hit or miss" but it was a big hit for us. First, we were given a prime window table with a spectacular view of the water and grounds - great start. Second, our waiter (Diego- who also works at Routier) was very friendly, helpful and professional. Third, food was excellent. I had the veal and she had a seafood/sausage combo which the cook forgot to include the sausage, delicious nonetheless. The restaurant did make it up to us and didn't charge us for dessert- nice touch. All in all, we had a wonderful anniversary dinner while enjoying scenic views of the water and being waited on with great service. A great experience! We would return anytime!
Service was okay...not much energy or enthusiasm. Ordered a medium steak that arrived charred and well done...wayyy over cooked. They gave me a new meal, but my husband was already long done with his dinner by the time it arrived. DIdn't offer discount or free drink or anything. Restaurant is in a great spot...could train the staff a little more in customer service. We found this at the outside bar as well... it won't stop us from going back though. Our overall trip to Water's Edge was a lot of fun. We visit Ocean House in RI once a year. Water's Edge was a more relaxed and less refined experience, though our dinner price tag was very similar.
Beautiful views, great food, some things were a little overpriced in our opinion, but we would go back again.
We have been here twice for Brunch. The food was delish, specially the prime beef, tender and juicy. The selection of foods is adequate and the service was very good. We had the best sit in the house, overlooking the sea, just awesome. The price is pretty steep, there is only so much that one can eat. Registration was a bit disorganized.
excellent, quiet resort, beach fair, pools great. dining wonderful
Would love to come again!
Quick service. Small but eclectic menu. Average wine list. Lamb was over cooked.
Service was bad. Had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for entree . Claimed mix up in kitchen. Thought they might have compensated with dessert or something but apparently not important to them. Waitress Emily was new and did her best but restaurant should have been more concerned with their lack of service.
