Das Ethiopian - Georgetown
Wednesday-Sunday: 11:00am - 11:00pm
we made the reservation at 9 p.m. We were late arriving and finally arrived 9:30 p.m. thinking that it's open until 11 p.m. That's what the website said. They had closed down by 9 p.m. They said the owner left. Completely disappointed.
I love this restaurant, but the portions are enormous, so when I went with my cousin and his girlfriend I asked to order two veggie platters for all of us. The waitress refused and insisted that I order a third dish or be charged $7.50 extra. This isn’t a TGI Friday’s that you can or should tell me what I can and can’t order and share. As expected, a lot of the food went to waste because we did not need three dishes.
I love this place! The owner is a master of Ethiopian cuisine and added some small dishes to our plate to make it more authentic. We had just been to Ethiopia and thought it was some of the best food we had either place.
As a first experience with ethipian cousine we all enjoyed the flavours with a distinctive character and outstanding cooking in a cozy and smart casual environment, under the attention and respectful care of his manager (maybe owner)
Lovely spot in a traditional townhouse on the edge of Georgetown, wonderful hosts, and fabulous food.
Great authentic Ethiopian food. Service was excellent and the price was moderate. We had a platter with veggies, chicken and meat. Very tasty and we'll prepared. Nice presentation for all of us to enjoy. If you go down to M Street, stop in at Das Ethiopian.
The staff and owner was super helpful with the menu. The portions generous. The ambiance low key and pleasant. Would return!
Das is old favorite of my family and I, we love coming and dinning here. The service is always great and the owner is attentive.
Great place.Very nice owner.pleasant experience.
The food was tasty. Each dish tasted different and the overall experience was wonderful.
Great food all around, fancy, and interesting people. Fan.
The atmosphere, service, and most of the food was outstanding. I ordered a beef dish but forgot to tell them to cook it well done, which made it impossible for me to eat.
First time having Ethiopian food. Server made great suggestions. She also allowed us to sample a couple of wines before selecting a bottle. Food was delicious. Service was great - took awhile to get our food but that was a good thing - it made for a lovely evening.
Went early on a Sunday before a show at the Kennedy Center. The food was delicious and the service was great. Das also had a fancy (and affordable) dessert menu. Great experience!
The food was outstanding, and the waitstaff was very friendly!
Our family loves Ethiopian food and as a result we have visited numerous restaurants across the country. By far, there are so many positives about Das that we’ll definitely be going back. First, the location is great, Georgetown,. The restaurant is adorable; the decor is upscale casual stylish and comfortable. They have a sidewalk patio with seating, too cute. The staff was beyond friendly and attentive. We thought the food was very good/great (8-9) but I’ve had a bit better in my travels. Still it was very tasty. One of the biggest positives is that the food came out quickly after ordering. What a pleasant surprise! I’ve never experienced that in an Ethiopian restaurant. I usually wait a good 30 minutes or more. This restaurant was recommended to me by my hotel concierge. I’ve already recommended Das to others.
6 of us were quickly seated and serviced. We ordered 6 plates and shared everything. Helpful to order a sampler (we did 1 meat and 1 veg) and the server will place other dishes in the center of each for sharing. We really enjoyed the Chicken Doro Wat, Collared Greens, and the Fish (Asa). We would certainly go back, though it is the priciest Ethiopian restaurant we've been to.
The food and service were fantastic.
It was a hot day and the AC was not ok. There were no fans so it was a miserable experience. The staff seemed almost hesitant and unhappy to engage with the customers. The food was ok not great...the restaurant being pricey made the whole experience terrible.
Simply delicious, a dining experience. I highly recommend it.
Great dinner. I had the vegetarian sampler and it was absolutely delicious and not too spicy. Reservations are necessary. We went on early on a Saturday night but luckily we had a reservation. The service was friendly. Just two days later & I'm already eager to go back!
I've been before and actually did a business dinner there. It was a great choice for a business dinner if you are entertaining people who like something different and everyone is comfortable eating with their hands. It was a really fun alternative to most business dinners that are overly formal. It makes for fun, friendly conversation.
This was our second really great meal and dining experience at Das Ethiopian. The first time we visited it after a book reading at the Bridge Street bookstore across the street and this time it was for a meal prior to a Kennedy Center concert. The food is great and reasonably priced. I am looking forward to the 3rd visit!
Best meal we had in DC. The food was presented so beautifully and was absolutely delicious. Wonderful service and very well priced.
Our great first meal in Washington DC. The experience was fantastic to meet up with a new friend.
After spending a hot day outdoors we chose to sit inside in the calm instead of outside in the bustle, both options attractive depending on your mood. Ambiance, service, and food were outstanding. We would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend Das Ethiopian to others.
Met my daughter and my niece at Das Ethiopian and sat outside for dinner. The host and servers were so nice and the food was beautiful and delicious. The restaurant is beautiful, set in an old quaint Georgetown building. Despite the white linen table cloths, still has a casual feel. Love this place! Would definitely come back!
The food was spicy for my palette but it tasted really good. I am a vegetarian and found the perfect items on the menu. Would highly recommend the sambusa and the vegetarian entree sample.
Definitely worth a visit, especially if you like spicy food!!
Excellent food. Best Ethiopian in DC. Very friendly family- run restaurant. Great value
Wonderful dining experience.
Very good food packed with ton of flavor. I would eagerly return for another meal
Always a lovely dining experience. Very friendly and attentive, but not intrusive, staff. Excellent vegetarian and meat choices. Nice quiet dining room - no blaring background music. Great views on the streets of Georgetown and a nice little patio.
Excellent Ethiopian food, good African beer, combined with the outdoor setting with cozy surroundings can only be recommended.
Delicious food - Eat with your hands (kids loved that). Lovely service. And beautiful - warm decor. Highly recommended.
We had a great first experience at Das on June 8th. It was a perfect way to have Ethiopian food in DC. It it a bit more upscale but not unapproachable. We loved the food and the service was relaxed and friendly. We will definitely be back again and again.
The waitress completely took care of us. Wonderful food and wine. Great time overall. My favorite Ethiopian place in DC!
Upscale well done Ethiopian food. Light high quality Injers and very tasty veggie options
The crispy fish was also well done. Caters much to the American palate but makes up for this in delicate refinement. The waitstaff was spot on
I let my server help me decide and she did not disappoint. The food was flavorful and spicy (because I asked for spicy). Would recommend.
Good quality authentic Ethiopian fare. It tastes like a home cooked meal .. comforting.
I would recommend for casual dining
Rather disappointing in most aspects. Not sure why this place has a bib gourmand rating. The food wasn’t outstanding, maybe a little average and the service was a bit subpar. I would choose Zenebech any day over this experience.
