We love the vegan options and the healthy, delicious food! Have been many times and will continue to go back. There are no stairs to enter the restaurant; however, being on crutches this time, using the bathroom was not an option as it is up a flight of stairs.
Great food and the service was really good too. We went there for my brothers’ birthday and we had a lot of fun!!!
Very good food. Service was a little slow. They seemed understaffed for the number of patrons. They also kept moving tables around - it was a little distracting. But the food was very good!
Great place to take a friend visiting from out of town. Always a hit!
Ethiopian food is a taste treat and at Das it is served Ethiopian style, which means no utensils, just deliciously soft flatbread to scoop up the food served on a huge bread platter, family style. Just be bold and sample the variety of chicken, beef, and vegetarian offerings. You have not eaten red lentils like this before - scrumptious. Nor have you probably had steak tartare, spicey and melt in your mouth delicious.
It does get noisy as the place fills up, but it adds to the character of the place. And being right across from the Four Seasons in Georgetown makes it a must for visitors as well as residents. This is my fourth time there.
Took my granddaughter there to experience Ethiopian cuisine. I made reservations two weeks in advance since we were traveling from Florida. The restaurant was clean and the wait staff was attentive, sort of.... ok so let’s start from the beginning. We walk in and are greeted by a staff member. My granddaughter asked if we could sit up stairs but we were informed it was for large parties only...remember this. So we are seated at a two top so close to the wall my right arm would have constantly hit the wall. I asked to be moved and we were accommodated. We reviewed the menu and decided to split the meat sampler but were promptly informed that would not be enough and should order another entree so we did. I ordered a glass of wine, my granddaughter a ginger ale which had to be sent back twice because there was no ginger in it the fist time then she was given tonic water which was sent back and we had to wait for someone to come back to get a sprite.... finally the food. Not the most flavorful Ethiopian food I’ve eaten and of course was way more than we wanted or needed. The one sampler would have been more than enough for the two of us. What a waste of food and money. $53 + 10 tip. Now don’t get me wrong I have no problem spending $ on food.
Now remember the upstairs that was for large parties only... the rest room are up stairs which we needed to use before leaving only to see several two tops, several four tops in addition to larger tables. So the staff member that greeted us deliberately LIED about the use of the upstairs. I will say the the owner or manager was very nice and did offer to try to accommodate us during dinner but I refused and after realizing we had been lied to the moment we walked in the door I was just so upset and I believe or hoped the owner/manager could see it in my face as I told her about the lie. There are way to many really good restaurants in DC to eat there again not that I’ll be back to DC soon but I had expected so much more.
Awesome food, awesome setting. Was thoroughly satisfied with the spicy dishes that we ordered.
To me, dinner at Das is the best part of business trips to Washington DC!
This restaurant is amazing. Best coffee I have ever had. The owner was so sweet!
Second time eating here. One of my wife’s favorites in all of DC. Excellent experience in every level. Food is delicious (I had the meat sampler and my wife had the vegetarian sampler). First class ambience - in the heart of Georgetown, yet quaint and inviting on the inside. Table was ready on time. Food came quickly. Service was first class - not just professional, but everyone on staff genuinely smiled at you. That’s noticeable in an era when it is rare. Could not recommend more highly.
Love our visits to Das. Enjoy the food as well as friendly service. Our favorite is Chicken Doro-wat, it is spicy but very tasty. Shrimp Tibs are awesome!
We like Ethiopian honey wine that goes very well with the food.
I travel to Washington DC every month or two and usually try to fit in a dinner at Das. It is a family restaurant with a long-serving and very friendly staff, many of whom are from Ethiopia. They will gladly help guide you through the menu and arrive at a good selection, plus offer advice on how to use the spongy sourdough flatbread (injera) to eat the food. I often order the vegetarian sampler, which offers a delicious variety of traditional vegetarian selections and constitutes a meal unto itself. Das never disappoints!
First time eating Ethiopian food. Great experience. Totally recommended.
A great Ethiopian spot on the edge of Georgetown. Super fast and kind service. Food was almost perfect. Highly recommend.
table was a little small for 5 people but food and service are excellent!
Good ethiopian food and nice ambiance.. Was a little noisy in the beginning.
Very good! Doro Watt was spicy and flavorful without being overly hot, and unlike many places they gave you a decent amount of chicken. Also neither the egg nor the chicken was over cooked, as they often are. Vegetables food as well. Overall not as good as the late, lamented Entoto on Foxhall rd, but better than some of the currently more trendy Ethiopian places in silver spring.
1st time. Was delicious & fun! The staff was very agreeable to making recommendations for a large variety of appetizers & entrees. Three of us split 3 apps, 2 chicken entrees, 1 beef entree, & 1 veggie sampler. All were delicious & we plan to return
Good food, great service, friendly staff! Enough said.
We were seated upstairs which was a bit quieter than downstairs. Clientele was very upscale. Some wore jackets, some more casual, but felt very posh. Music was great and varied between jazz and electronic house. The host and service was excellent. If you've never had Ethiopian before, the culture is to share the meal with everyone at the table and eat with your hands. They give you the option I think for plates and flatware. The food was very tasty. Keep in mind there is a lot of bread (cold and thin and feels like a french crepe. Beef, fish, chicken choices were all very good. the spices and heat were really really tasty as well. Your hands and napkin will get very "involved". Recommend Uber as very little parking on the 28th and M location. We would definitely eat there again.
The food was very flavorful. We enjoyed the peacefulness of the restaurant. We have been to several Ethiopian restaurants around the area and enjoyed this one the best.
Had wonderful Valentine's Day dinner! Great place for sharing the meal.
Great food, reasonable cost
Intimate restaurant, very good food
We arrived on time for our party-of-two reservation but the hostess sat another party of two that arrived after us before seating us. We were then ushered to the first floor dining area, which was noisy, even though the other party had been sent upstairs. After considerable effort, she finally seated us upstairs. The food was good but the portions were small, esp. relative to the price. We won't be back.
It was my second time at DAS. The first time was last summer, and was memorable. This time, I invited colleagues and hoped it was as good as last summer. There was no disappointment. Gracious service. Lovely ambiance. Linen table cloths. Excellent and unique cuisine.
Very good expression of Ethiopian cuisine. Beautiful location and dining room. Excellent wait staff and service. Decent wine selection. They also have Ethiopian Beer. They will give you a fork if you ask for on, which I did. Didn't really get the whole deal where you pick up your food with a piece of spongy bread. Taste good, though.
My wife requested Ethiopian for her birthday dinner and this place seemed to fit the bill. Oh, how wrong I was! Our server was rather curt with us and walked away even before we finished ordering, then was no where to be seen. I can forgive bad service if the food is good, but the chicken and meat sampler that we ordered tasted like it had been sitting around all day long. The chicken wing was dry and the beef stew with the hard boiled egg was practically inedible. The only bright side was the vegetarian sampler, which had some nice flavors. However, the portions were meager, even considering we got the samplers. Would not go back nor recommend this place to others.
A great neighborhood institution. Provides an excellent opportunity for people new to Ethiopian cuisine to try it in a friendly and familiar setting. I hope this place stays around for a long time.
Couldn’t have been nicer. Wonderful service and presentation. So much fun scooping the delicious food with injera bread. A unique experience, I tried the chicken and beef sampler and my husband the short ribs. We enjoyed sharing everything. Staff is most pleasant.
This is an attractive little restaurant. The food was good. It’s served Ethiopian style - everyone’s order is in the middle of the table on a large single plate and there are no utensils. You eat with your hands and a spongy bread. It was fun.
What a delicious, inviting and hospitable restaurant. We were treated so well and the cuisine did not take as long to be served as other area Ethiopian restaurants. Service and food were impeccable. We will be returning, and often!
So worth the trip.... Can't wait to go back... The vegetarian sampler was great.
The food here is pretty good and the portions are too small for the price. Keep coming back because the service is good and the staff creates a nice atmosphere but the cost benefit of spending a decent amount and not being full are no longer worth it.
The food was good but the injera was pasty and the food portions were small.
Service was good and ambiance was good.
My family goes here for special occasions because it is quiet enough to hear each other and the sharing of food is intimate. One of our kids is vegan so we get the veg. sampler and a meat sampler. It is a lot of food for 4 people. The meat one is very spicy and also has some vegetables. Often the owner is there and he is lovely to talk to . He goes on buying trips to Ethiopia to get spices that are better quality than what he can find here in the US. All or most of the wait staff are Ethiopian. The atmosphere is nice and crisp with white tablecloths and beautiful photographs of Ethiopia.
Lovely experience for the environment, food and the delightful staff. I will return!
Das was just wonderful. The food, the staff, the atmosphere were all fantastic! Go there if you wish to experience something different that will not disappoint.
One of our favorite places in the District. Service and staff are wonderful and the food is phenomenal.
This is the 2nd time we dine at DAS. By far, it is the best Ethiopian restaurant we have ever been to. The food is excellent, the attention of staff constant but not overwhelming.
The wine list could be upgraded but everyone will find something to their liking.
And, for all this goodness, you won't break the bank!
