Darryl's Corner Bar and Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed the live music and the D.J however, our meals were served at different times, there was a delay on the adult beverages and we had to send a few drinks back, although we had reservations- delay on seating. Also, I did not enjoy the crowd after 11pm. I feel the establishment is not geared towards that type of crowd(bottle service, men under dressed etc.). When I think of Darryl's, I envision a clean, professional mature crowd. Please do not stray away from that vibe. Thanks J
Darryl's Corner Bar is one of the gems in our neighborhood. This is not the first time I visited the venue. I organized a friend's get-together, enticed by the live music. All of us were extremely satisfied with the food we ordered, the cajun-spiced tuna and the lamb shank were exquisite. Unfortunately, the noise level, due to the live performance, has been unbearable. This is not the first time, though. The venue is small, therefore, I don't see why the use of a microphone and amplifiers are really necessary. Four of us at the table couldn't understand one word of what the other one was saying. Our server, while very charming and friendly, was rather pushy, not giving us the necessary time to go through the food menu but since it was a rather busy night this can be forgiven although would show a sign of professionalism.
Darryl's was amazing! There was a band there who had guest singers and everyone was so phenomenally talented. We got 10% off for showing our theatre tickets as well. The food was incredible. The service was very slow (we arrived 15 minutes early and the hostess told us our table was ready but she needed to find menus and rather than having us wait in the bar, had us wait in the cold vestibule for 15 minutes while looking for menus, and the food took about 45 mins for appetizers to arrive), but the bartender was friendly and quick. I will definitely be back, especially to hear the amazing music!
I thought that the food was very good. I had the blackened catfish. (Just the right amount of heat to it). I like having the choices of 2 sides to complete the plate. We were there on a Sunday evening. A jazz band was playing. They were good: Because of the small space, it was loud, and difficult to carry on a conversation
I love Darryl’s Corner! This was my 4th or 5th time eating from Darryl’s so I was expecting a great dinner. However, I was surprised since my dinner fell flat in taste and temperature; the collard greens and mashed potatoes were cold and the catfish was disappointing since it tasted like codfish instead. I come from a carribean family so I know what catfish tastes like. I will still go to Darryl’s although this time was kind of “Meh” because the atmosphere, service, and drinks are always on point.
I've been to Darry'ls a few times to eat (as well perform), and I've always enjoyed it. This was my first time going for brunch, and it did not disappoint! Everything was good...the French toast was to die for, the BBQ ribs were fall off the bone, and everything else was tasty! Immediately after I left, I recommended it to my older brother. The wait staff and servers were friendly, and the drinks are good as well. If you do brunch, PLEASE make reservation or you may be waiting a while LOL. I'll definitely be back!!!
The food at Darryl's was great! It was a nice place to have brunch with my family and celebrate my parents' anniversary. The servers were very nice and attentive, and even brought a slice of cake for my parents to share! Overall a great place to eat. I will definitely be back!
Four of us; wonderful dinner. The food was great - very fresh and prepared beautifully. Catfish, salmon, and a melt-in-your-mouth braised lamb shank were all excellent. Garlic mash and various vegetables all were very good! A good craft beer selection kept my husband satisfied, and the cocktails were great. The service was lovely, our waitress friendly and attentive. We will DEFINITELY go back, the next time we are in Boston. We had an early dinner so we didn't get to hear the jazz entertainment this time - but will hope to have a chance for that the next time!
Darryl's is a live and energetic place!
I recently came to celebrate my friend's birthdays. Really love the southern style jazz brunch. Although it could have more vegan/vegetarian options. As someone who eats vegan and who LOVES collard greens, I'm sad I can never have any when I visit here because they have meat/meat products in them 💔
The band is always fantastic! The staff is very friendly. Price is right. And best of all it's T accessible if you don't want to drive🙌
My husband and I had a great time at Darryl’s, we will definitely be back in the near future! We have been looking for a dining spot that hosts live R&B music in a romantic setting, and we sure found it. April Stanford was the singer and she truly rocked the house with her melodious vocals and witty personality! I can’t wait to go back and chill. The crowd was also extremely diverse which means anyone would feel comfortable here! The service was excellent and our waitress was extremely attentive but not checking on us too often. Overall a wonderful experience!
Food and drinks were great! Place is clean and nice. Waitress was very nice and helpful. Down side: reservations were not kept, still had to wait 45minutes for seats, place is small. There is a fee per person for listening to live music while dinning on weekends . Music at times was too loud to hear the company I was with. I would go back for take out, if that's an opinion.
Darryl's never disappoints. I've dined at Darryl's seven times in the last year and a half and the food has been very good, consistently. I've celebrated family birthdays and get-togethers and everyone always has a great time. I love the atmosphere, music and staff. It's my go-to for southern cooking.
My friends and I were visiting from Atlanta. The restaurant didn’t know this, but the service we received made me wonder if maybe I HAD mentioned it because they treated us like special “company.” They took great care of all their patrons. Everyone was pleasant and the atmosphere had lots of positive vibes.
We were AN HOUR LATE for our reservation and had not even called to let them know. (terrible...I know-we didn’t plan for that whole street parking thing) The hostess was so gracious and did her best to accommodate us despite the fact that the house was packed. We were seated within 30 minutes and the waitress was just as amazing as the hostess. The food was excellent! When the waitress checked on us with the routine “how is everything” question we casually mentioned that the food was slightly lukewarm BUT that we still loved it. We continued enjoying the music, drinks and our meals and a little while later a manager came over to apologize for the food temp and removed those entrees from our check!! We felt horrible because we didn’t mean to actually complain...we were just answering her question lol. Needless to say we left a generous gratuity. We will definitely return if ever in Boston again! I could see a spot like this thriving in Atlanta.
If your kids are attending Northeastern and you are looking for a place to take them to dinner, Darryl's is a good choic. A nice casual and fun place, with good food, drink and live music. Drinks were creative and tasty. The meals were excellent. I couldn't resist the chicken and waffles with real maple syrup, which was very good, but put to shame by the salmon, lamb shank, and jambalaya selected by the others in our party.
The only knock I have on the place is the $20 entertainment fee that surprisingly appeared on our bill. In their defense, it is noted on a small sign at the entrance and on also on the menu, neither of which we noticed. A little notification by the wait staff would have been helpful.
But, what was inexcusable was including the fee with the rest of the food, so that it is then taxed and included in the total that, if you don't deduct from, you would then tip on.
All that said, I would go back, as I don't mind supporting live music, plus the food and drink was quite good.
Darryl Corner was a breath of fresh air. My friends from out of town came and they loved everything about the it. We are big on brunch and it was prefect. The live music, the art on the wall, the staff and the food were all amazing. AND we met Rutina Wesley sooooooooo this put the experience over the top!!
A bit too loud for what I was looking for. I was on a date and thought I could relax a bit with the live band, but it was just so loud that I could barely hear my date. We were yelling at each other and we were already at the other end of the room. Had to call it quits and grab our drinks and walked elsewhere along South End to find a nicer romantic spot. Food looked good but we didn't try anything.
Charming place, great location, interesting menu and the food we had was delicious and well-prepared. We were there on a Tuesday, when there is no jazz (we knew this), and this had an odd effect: they were out of: cheese curds, green beans, chicken thighs, and sauvignon blanc. Waitress was charming and apologetic. What we had - meatloaf, shrimp and grits - were well done (meatloaf a bit more loafy than meaty, but still very good); we had a great table and a great time. We would return - just not on a Tuesday!
The service was so bad, I don't think I'll plan to go back anytime soon. We waitied 15 minutes for our server to even acknowledge us to bring us water and over 40 minutes for our apps and food to arrive as there were other tables that came in after us that were being served!
Live music was great. Super convenient to Huntington Theatre. Bar seemed really popular. Food was just ok. It was really loud (even before music started) to the point we all needed to repeat our order 2-3 times for our waitress to get it, and we had a hard time having a conversation.
Darryl's always comes to mind when looking for a place where to enjoy Southern cuisine while enjoying some jazz music. Although you are never quite sure what type of performance you are going to get, you will be entertained. It is one of my favorite hangout spots with friends, especially on a Friday night/weekend. It can be too noisy at times but it is always fun.
The food is great. Grits and Shrimp is my "go-to" dish as well as the catfish for appetizer and bread pudding for dessert. Great food!
We went for dinner at Darryl's before a show at the Huntington and had a great meal! The hushpuppies were outstanding as an appetizer! So many choices on the menu, but the chicken and waffles won out finally. No regrets! We didn't have enough time for dessert, but I saw the next table over get theirs and they looked tasty! We'll be back!
