Darryl's Corner Bar and Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
I can here with two friends and all I want to say is thank you to the host, that's about it! I have come here plenty of times and I must say the service before was great! But this time it was horrible ! Let's start off by saying when we sat down , we have NO idea who our waiter was. The host then came 10 mins later took our drink and food order, after that an HOUR went by after putting our order in and STILL NO ONE came to check on us or tell us our food was coming or anything. After 15 more minutes of sitting we ended getting up and leaving. This was the worst experience I have ever had here.
We've been there several times but for whatever reason, we waited almost two hours for food! We were there before the restaurant became busy and yet we had to wait, received the wrong food, and drink. The waitress did her best and the manager eventually came over. The bill was reduced and we would definitely go back but the food service was terrible - which again was a first.
Food was great and fresh. waitress was attentive, professional and polite. Environment was warm and welcoming even though the space was very small ans i felt on top of the guests at the neighboring table. Drinks were delicious and they was not cheap on the alcohol. An overall good experience and worth the drive from Rhode Island.
Darryl's Jazz Brunch is fun and lively with a soul food twist. The music has been outstanding both times I've been there. The wait staff was attentive and friendly and the food was excellent. The only criticism was that there was a delay in seating those of us who had a 2:00 reservation. Because the restaurant is small with limited seating, guests lingering over their meals and enjoying the music overstayed their welcome. It took 15 - 20 minutes after our reservation time to get seated.
The manager told us our reservation was not ready when we used OpenTable to book and we had to wait 30 minutes until they decided to open more tables for us to sit on. The music was then incredibly loud and made it hard for us to conversate amongst one another. When we finally got the check there was a $20 entertainment fee we were not told about upon arriving at the restaurant. The staff was nice but the manager seemed to be having a tough day, overall we did not enjoy the experience as we thought it could have all been dealt with better. We should have been sat at the tables immediately upon arrival if our table was not available instead of sitting us at a bar for 30 minutes and then deciding to open up a table for us. The food was good but it would have been even better if we didn't have the sour taste in our mouths from the unpleasant welcoming. The manager should have really done better on this one!
The service was terrible. 1 server for the entire restaurant. The server did not communicate well. We had to tackle him to get our drink order in after 10 minutes. The apps and main course were received at the same time. The food took forever to come out. It took 45 minutes to get any food, even corn bread, that never appeared. We were headed to a show and told the server we were under a time constraint. IT DID NOT MATTER, THEY DID NOT CARE.
The food was great.
The food is great and the music is awesome! They are more concerned about people waiting to be seated than those actually seated. If you have a good dining experience you will come back for dinner. They put the check down right after we were finished eating and did not even offer us dessert. I have a 20% tip anyways because the food was good and the musician was amazing. But overall not a great place to eat dinner but great place if you want a bar scene or live music. We ate and left within an 1 1/2. So not worth the price, plus parking fee for just an 1 1/2 .
We usually stop in for glass of wine and appetizers on Thursday evening -love the live band and high energy throughout the resturant. The food is delicious, the wait staff is phenominal and we never feel rushed to give up seating. If you have'nt been put Darryl's on your to do list and visit soon.
The food was good, we had burgers (one beef/one fish) and they were ok. It is pretty noisy and we left before the music was in full swing. You need to be careful where you are seated if you are going to overlap with the music. The most distressing part of our visit was that there was a woman who clearly was a regular, who had way too much to drink and there did not seem to be any attempt by the manager/staff to address the situation so others could enjoy their meal.
The food was delicious and the live band was awesome! It is definitely loud when the band is playing so it is not ideal for too much conversation (without speaking very loudly or sitting super close to whoever you came with that is). Will definitely be back for more!
We sat to eat at the bar and ordered right away. The band playing was outstanding, but unfortunately we ended up having to get our food to go after waiting for 1hour and 45 minutes for it to come out. Rumor has it that the chef quit mid shift! We'll likely be back - hopefully next time with better results.
After waiting for 2 hours we finally walked out (along with several other tables) without ever receiving our meals. This was after we spoke to a manager who said he would check on the situation and come right back, but then completely vanished. This was my first time there and I have no intention of ever returning or recommending to anyone. We spent around $100 for the entertainment fees, tip, bland drinks, and 1 appetizer that took 45 min to come out. They didn't even comp anything, which is ridiculous. If they had apologized and offered a refund of some sort I would have been willing to give them another chance. But to spend all that money and then still have to go find somewhere else for dinner on a Saturday night is not worth it at all. And I've heard from others that this is not an uncommon experience, so beware! If you are actually trying to eat dinner, you might want to look elsewhere. I even emailed the restaurant to give them another chance and got no response.
Darryl's is a place I would expect to go to New York City to find. We have been looking in Boston for soul food with soul music, and this is it. We will definitely be back. We had terrific barbecue, beef ribs and lamb shank, jalapeño hush puppies, everyone was having a great time. The staff too did some dancing around the restaurant. Our entrees took "forever" to arrive, but they apologized and took a discount off the check. We didn't really mind the wait because the music was so good.
Brought the lovely girlfriend there and had an amazing time! Very small area, but poppin' spot for a dinner date. Live music was phenomenal, and the "Happy Birthday" sequence was great way to end the night. Also, if you like a shortrib, Darryl's CBK does it right!
10/10 would recommend to a friend! Will be back at some point in the near future, possibly to test the brunching vibes.
Love Darryl's! I've gone here with friends, for happy hour, and most recently, for my mothers birthday (Sunday Brunch). It was great. The live band always sets the mood and the food was perfect per usual! I only wish that they had a greater selection for the buffet (waffles, pancakes, catfish, fruits, etc) since it is kind of pricey. I also think that because this is such a hotspot they should expand!! Lastly, in my most recent visit, my server was upset that I did not tip her what she said was a "mandatory 20% gratuity" ...the funny thing is on the bill it gave tipping options like 15%, 18%, 20% etc., etc. It left a very bed taste in my mouth because although she was right I did not tip 20% (I tipped 18%), she made it seem like we were obligated to pay her. I don't like servers like that at all. But overall I will go back to Darryl's for sure!!!
The live music was a great backdrop to catching up with old friends. The Sunday brunch was nice, a great variety, and delicious. The French toast could have been cooked a little longer.
Minimal options for vegans.
It was a great place to spend a Sunday morning. The next time I'm in Boston, I'll stop through.
The portions are too small for the price. I ordered blackened catfish with macaroni and candied yams. The yams were covered in a disgusting dark brown sauce that had far too much cinnamon in it. Nothing was sweet about the yams. When I told the waitress there was too much cinnamon in the yams, she said they couldn't be remade, which means the chef cooked a giant pot of disgusting "candied yams", probably noticed that he/she did something wrong with the recipe, and continued to serve them because they were already cooked. Not cool. The restaurant is too expensive to have nasty food...and I came when there was no entertainment so I don't even know why I wasted time, really. Wasted calories.
