Darryl's Corner Bar and Kitchen Ratings and Reviews
Darryl's is a popular restaurant because of a great location near the Boston Symphony, its unique menu of southern style comfort food, and its a blues & jazz joint. The atmosphere is
just funky and the seating is close. Making a reservation is recommended but don't expect the table to be available when you get there as we waited 1/2 hour past our reservation time and it seems this is normal. Luckily we got seats at the bar and ordered our food from there. I asked the waitress how spicy the blackened catfish was and she said it wasn't spicy at all. Well it was probably the spiciest blackened dish I have ever had but tolerable for me, just not what I wanted. The collard greens were as good as I have ever but note also highly spiced (including much salt) and the yams were quite good as well so expect very high quality sides with your meal. For people who like low spiced foods, you will need to order very carefully. The polenta for example was not spicy at all and my date said they were good but it was my first time for polenta and it didn't do much for me other than good for sopping up the collard green juice. There was a good choice of craft beers and they seem adept at making cocktails so this is a fun place to go if you are aware of its limitations of being crowded, highly spiced food, and noisy.
My main issue is that they seat a table of 3 at a table meant for 2 people. Which was truly boogled our minds. When we entered they had a huge table that was meant for a group but had 2 people seated at it. They should reserve that table for big groups and not allow 2 ppl to sit there.
I'm a Southern transplant always on the hunt for food and music that reminds me of home. So many places up north do Southern food a little too fancy and upscale, but not Darryl's. There's this perfect balance between cuisine and authenticity that is hitting all the right notes. Speaking of, the music was absolute fire the night we went. Great staff, wonderful drinks, delicious food. What more could a girl want?
I have two favorite Boston restaurants and Darryl's is one. I am always happy there, for so many reasons. The food is delicious, the host/hostess and wait staff are super warm and welcoming, the bar is cozy and intimate, and the music is always a treat. It is one of a kind and I am so grateful it exists!
We were there early for business. Nice ambience. We had fried chicken and waffles and gumbo.— all good. Simple drinks. We were all happy. Later on the jazz started. Yes, it was loud but very good and not overwhelming. I’m not a jazz fan particularly but one of my guests were. Very good she thought.
Nice casual, good vibes , good food, good music. Heard the Jazz brunch is fab and will have to catch it.
This is such a special place - the music is wonderful, the staff are so friendly from the time you walk in the door to the time you leave, and the food is outstanding. Cocktails, too. For a place that is so busy, it is especially wonderful to be treated so well!!
I love this restaurant for the soul food and really good service. Denise, the bartender, makes great drinks and delivers excellent customer service. We tend to eat earlier here so that we can have a conversation before the music starts at 7pm and then stick around to listen to a bit of the jazz afterwards. I've never had anything to eat here that I didn't like so would highly recommend the chicken, catfish, chicken and waffles, jambalaya, and shrimp and grits. Sides of greens and macaroni and cheese are some of my favorites.
We had a great time! Our food was well prepared and the atmosphere in the place was fun. There was a paint party going on in the back, light jazz playing and the buzz of conversations. The only down point, our server was very busy, which cause long waits before we could get her attention or to bring something to the table that we asked for (never received my milk for my tea, lol or was she able to fix our bill). Overall, that would not keep me from returning. I chalk it up to her having a busy night but a couple of my friends were bother. Head here for a great meal, jazz and conversation.
Delicious food, fun time at Darryl's! The corn bread was delicious and so we're the cheese curds. For our main meal, I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the blackened catfish. Two of my kids had the chicken and waffles, and the other had a hamburger. We all are very single bite, so yummy! There was a fun band playing music, only thing it was so noisy hard to hear each other but we enjoyed the entertainment.
