Comfort Food
The “corner bar” is always the best neighborhood hangout and an integral part of the community. Darryl's Corner Bar & Kitchen is just that: the intersection of good friends, great food and live music. Owner Darryl Settles pours life back into the former Bob the Chef’s space with a sleek bar, exposed brick walls and sexy lighting that offers Roxbury, the South End and Back Bay the sophisticated social spot they’ve been craving. The southern-inspired menu is approachable yet dynamic. Diners can look forward to down home comfort food prepared with an uptown twist food in specialties like Traditional Louisiana style Gumbo; Roasted Haddock with Chorizo Corn Chowder and Marinated Tomato and Fried Chicken & Waffles. It's One of the few places in Boston to offer live jazz and R&B, Darryl’s hosts notable musicians 6 times a week. With its cool vibe, a friendly staff and late night menu until 12 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Darryl's is a go-to place every time we visit Boston. The food is always amazing, service is excellent, and the live music makes for a great evening atmosphere. It's a perfect place to go out for drinks and entertainment.

As a hallmark Black restaurant in Boston, Darryl’s offers a great atmosphere with live music and DJ’ing; however, my recent experience wasn’t great. I ordered one of the advertised specials (calamari) and a side dish. After approximately 40 minutes, my side was brought to the table. Another 35 minutes later I was told that the kitchen ran out of calamari almost an hour after my order was submitted and never received. My waitress offered to get me something else, to which I eventually ordered the crab cake appetizer. Another 35-40 minutes later, the crab cakes came out. They were charred and I was told the kitchen had the burners on all day. Not only was the timing and quality of the food off, but nothing was offered by the restaurant to address the poor service

I was explicit in the reservation that we had somewhere to be. We got seated late and the service was pretty slow. Thankfully the food and drink made up for it. All I ask is to be more attentive to details!

I’ve had great experiences at Darryl’s but this time not so much. The lamb tasted like over cooked fish and the greens weren’t seasoned.

Fabulous cocktails! Lovely service! The food was good, but sweet potatoes were on the mushy (almost baby food) side and main courses seemed to have been cooked earlier in day. Nonetheless great ambiance and lovely first time for a date night! Personally I would go back again, but order apps and drinks only as the apps were freshly made and delicious vs main course that seemed to be made earlier in day and not as great quality as apps. 4/5!

This place swings. We went on a Saturday night with a reservation. Waited just a few minutes at the bar before being seated right in front of a hopping R&B band led by a very talented female vocalist. We had the ribs, shrimp and grits, jambalaya and the PoBoy. All were delicious. Large portions, reasonably priced. Very friendly easy jazzy vibe. And GREAT SERVICE from JASMINE! Can't wait to get back here.

Good Southern food overall; blackened catfish was excellent, gumbo was tasty with lots of sausage, a few small shrimp and even less okra, but authentic gumbo is thicker with okra and file. Hush puppy appetizers were really disappointing--they came out LAST, after all the other food and were too crispy outside and not done at all inside--doughy and wet, not at all acceptable. Waitress took them off the bill without being asked, but she needed a bit more experience like not standing behind the person to whom she was speaking when she could have been at the side of the table and addressed all the diners at once. Still better than most for Southern style.

I have now been there maybe 4 times and each time it gets even better as I try new dishes. The atmosphere cannot be beat, great place to sit and relax and eat and drink some great offerings. And the service and attitudes of all of the people working there couldn't be any better, they are all so friendly and helpful. I am a little reluctant to speak so highly of Darryl's as it may get even more popular and therefore more difficult to get a table. even so, I can't help but pile praise upon this very friendly experience.

I have gone to Darryl's many times and the food is generally good. This last trip missed the mark, not sure if someone new was in the kitchen. The red velvet waffle was doughy and flavorless, the chicken under seasoned.

We had a fantastic time - everything was spectacular, the food, the music, the staff. I can't wait to go back. Only criticism was that the music was a little too loud for good conversation, but we had a table right in front of the band so take that for what it's worth.

Food was great, music was amazing. Only down side was we made a reservation for 7pm and weren’t seated until 7:40. The hostess seemed to forgotten about us even though our table was ready. She suddenly remembered our party as soon as we asked to see a menu while we waited. Other than that the place was really nice. I would go back again but I hope that they would be more on top of things the next time around.

We were there to grab smth quick before a NEC concert. The food was great (I had a gumbo and my friend - an appetizer), and came out quickly, the service was attentive and efficient. There was live music already. Noise level was the only downside - there was a big group celebrating nearby. But it’s a very cozy place a quick walk from NEC, Symphony and Huntington. We.’ll be back!

I was disappointed in my boring Cobb Salad, but my husband enjoyed his Jambalaya. We LOVED the hush puppies to start -- much better than the standard doughy, boring hush puppies. Nice to sit in on a bit of the music before we had to go. Always love Darryl's and will be back!

We have eaten here twice and very pleased. The food is great, the bartenders and cocktails are awesome, the service is wonderful and I like the friendly, small space vibe. I would give it all 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that the music, albeit beautiful jazz, makes it hard to converse at the table. Otherwise all good!

We were there this past Sunday for brunch, Bianca was our server and she was so sweet and accommodating. The singer as well as the band were wonderful!
I always enjoy the brunch buffet time after time, but I swear, the food is even better than it was before! All four of us in my party agreed. The fried chicken is near perfect, the ribs were falling off the bone and they definitely stepped up the sauce game! Again, perfection! Sweet, smoky and spicy all at the same time. All of the other items were fantastic as well. There is no better brunch in Boston IMO. I don’t think any of us ate again for the rest of the day/night. Thank you!!!

I really do love this place! We used to live in the South End so we had gone to Darryl's on a more regular basis. We have since moved out of the city so it's been over a year since we last went. In my opinion the mark of a really good restaurant is that they are consistent over time. And our experience on Saturday shows that Darryl's lives up to this -- food, service and ambiance along with live music is still awesome after all these years!
I'm not an expert on southern food, but recognize and appreciate great food. The "glorified fried catfish" was terrific; the little mini corn bread muffins excellent, other 2 in party had jambalaya and loved it. The live music was terrific -- because there's live music the noise level section of review is not accurate -- it was fine to carry on conversation without music but with obviously it's tougher -- but the great music is worth it!
Highly recommend.

We LOVED our experience at Darryls! Was just there for the first time this past Saturday formy
Moms bday and it was amazing. The ambiance and feel of the place was cool, warm and welcoming and classy. The live jazz band was amazing!! And for her bday they give your name to the band who sings happy birthday to you! The food was pretty good although if you order collars greens ask for them separately or else your other food will be a little soggy. We went around 7p, the lights were a bit down, the jazz band playing, and the vibe just amazing. Recommend this place to everyone ever. Also we were a party of 6 and asked to be in the same room as the band and they met this request. We actually were 17 minutes late and still they say is within 10-15 minutes. Can't wait to head there again!! Also would say this is a great date place too or kkaybout with friends and family.

Darryl’s is always a hit with me! This was my First brunch experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I arrived for 10am. The one thing I didn’t realize was the buffet menu changes despite what is posted in the menu. As a pescatarian I was looking forward to their fried catfish, however the kitchen did not have it available for the buffet. The options there were still amazing and mimosas were tasty as well!
