Darren's Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Great restaurant and food, but as with most upscale establishments in MB the fact that you have to yell to be heard while dining doesn't seem to be a concern for management. We purposely went early at 6PM and still couldn't hear. I guess its just the bar vibe as opposed to the dining vibe...or maybe I'm just getting old:)
Darren's NEVER disappoints! It's our favorite restaurant in the Southbay. Darren is an incredible chef and is involved in every aspect of his restaurant. When we arrived he was at the hostess stand and ready to seat us.
Amazing food every time! The Lobster chowder is incredible and a must every visit.
Went for Dads Bday. Hamachi, Brussels sprouts and halibut good but the Macaroni and Cheese was inedible bc it tasted like it had a a bucket of salt poured all over it. Surprising. The wedge was very basic, on the small side and not really cold. The waitress was sweet
My friend and I enjoyed our dinner at Darren's for several reasons: The reservations were easy to make and we received a warm welcome. The server was perfect: right there when we needed her, and not overbearing in any way. She made some recommendations which we agreed with, and we were happy with the results. The food was delicious, and there is a good wine list, both by the glass and bottle. The atmosphere was very pleasant: not loud, but busy enough to demonstrate a popular dining establishment. I had never been to Darren's before, but I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking an enjoyable dining experience.
The food at Darren's was very creative and delicious. My only beef was that while the dishes are pricey they're also very skimpy in terms of quantity. I'm okay with being charged $150 for a nice dinner out with my wife, but I shouldn't have to hit the local Mcdonald's on the way home because I'm still hungry.
Truffle fries and Brussels sprouts r amazing, beyond that, food was average, sliders overcooked and broccolini came to the table boiled with nuts tossed on top! When I asked the server, isn't this suppose to be sautéed etc...she proceeded to take the dish and told me the head chef agrees with me???? So what does that mean...
We were quite disappointed in our visit to Darren's. Two dishes were very good, the Hawaiian Ahi tuna and the crab cake. However other dishes were bland and uninteresting. The bruschetta toast was soggy and fell apart when we tried to eat it. Service was very slow even though we were there early with few other patrons. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our creme brulee, however the restaurant did comp the desert because of the delay. By 7 p.m. the restaurant was full and very noisy, making conversation almost impossible.
Brought friends who had not been to MB for dinner. Darren's was the perfect choice as always. The vibe was lively, albeit a bit noisy as usual. The food was amazing as always. And our server who has taken care of us before was super friendly and made us all feel so welcomed. And that's why we keep coming back.
We LOVED the food here but the NOISE so SO LOUD that we couldn't even have a conversation. It wasn't that the crowd was loud but the design of the restaurant - no windows and high cathedral ceiling makes the sound bounce off everywhere. I am so sad because the food was SO GOOD, but not enough to bear through what felt like a football stadium noise. It is an upscale place and deserves better ambiance than a sports bar. I hope the owner gets enough feedback to take some action to fix the noise problem. It is such a shame to have such great food without the atmosphere to really enjoy it.
As good as some of their regular "large plate" selections look, we never seem to get past the idea of doing a bunch of small plates with friends. They have a wonderful small plate selection and everything is very good. Those lamb chops though look awfully tempting.
It is simply the best. I live a half block away and eat here as often as I can afford to. There are about 25 restaurants within 4 blocks, but this is the absolute best. I shared a bowl of the lobster chowder and then shared the salmon and also the braised short rib. Each dish has Darren's touch, making them unique to anything you have had. Excellent in every way.
We went with a party of four and decided to do a grazing menu of small plates. For the four of us, at our waiter's recommendation, we had 7 small plates and it was plenty, but everything was so good, nothing went back to the kitchen. Would absolutely do it again, in fact we're going again next week.
