This is a lovely restaurant with friendly , helpful servers. The pompano fish looked and tasted fabulous! The yogurt dessert was one of the best I have ever had. I had an excellent gin gimlet, delicately flavored with cardamom. Highly recommended, especially if you are looking for something different.
The food was delicious. We love lamb and were able to experience some new recipies that were amazing. The menu is very gluten free friendly and gave us some new ideas. Service was excellent, very friendly and helpful. The setting is comfortable with beautiful murals on the walls. We will definitely go back.
Birthday dinner for my wife. Food and staff were amazing! They surprised us with a special birthday table! Thank you so much!
Great food, we had a great variety, friendly staff thanks so much
SOOOOOOO GOOD! Have wanted to try for a long time, and it exceeded every expectation!
We have now been to both locations and prefer the Alberta location primarily for the ambiance. Everyone enjoyed their food; we shared a variety of platters and the least good was the mixed grill. I rarely eat meat and this was a poor occasion to break that. The meat was dry and overcooked and the flavors much less interesting than everything else we ordered. The platter (meze? and another one) of mixed plant-based foods were excellent and so was the chickpea stew my vegan husband ordered. We will definitely eat here again and have recommended it to others. Just didn't love the setting at the downtown location.
The food at Dar Salam is consistently good. The six of us all started with the lentil soup which is delicious. The main meals were all high quality from the lamb shank to the mixed grill. All the meat was well seasoned and tender. This is a perfect place to eat dinner before a show at the theaters downtown,l. They are just a short walk away. We will be back!
My friends and I went there for our annual Christmas gathering. It was my first time there. I must admit that the food was the best I have tasted. Adis soup was the Champ! I will definitely come back soon.
Overall, the food was good. Service was fine. The one nitpick that I have is with regard to taking food home. We could not eat the entire meal and asked to have it packed to go. The waiter brought us to-go containers. I think restaurants should pack your food to go for you. We were seated at a very small table, with large plates, and that left little room to set the to-go containers. As my husband placed his good in the container, it fell off of the table. The response from the wait staff was basically “it happens.” The way this was handled lowers our overall experience with the restaurant.
The starters were great but the main course seemed to be lacking in flavor.
Went to this place for dinner based on location near a performance we were attending, and were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, service, and food. I had the mezzo platter with lamb - always a risk because it’s so often overcooked, chewy, tasteless. In this case it was great, and the usual accompanying items were fine. Only complaint was only one red wine by the glass (14 hands, not my favorite).
Amazing experience!. Food was great and wonderful ambiance. I loved the decor.
Over the past almost two years my family and I have been to Dar Salaam several times. And honestly this latest time was the best for everyone!
I had the Chicken Kabob Rice Plate with the stew and basmati rice. We shared a Tabouli Salad as well. The food was absolutely phenomenal.
I’m already thinking about my next visit!
The lamb shank was fantastic! The grilled platter was a little dried out. Overall the food was tasty and worth the bucks. Th ambiance was colorful and fun, with some moderate noise level. Will recommend this if you want to try Persian food.
I regularly meet friends and colleagues here for buffet lunch on weekdays. Bring someone here who’s never been. I have a 100% “OMG this is so good” success rate. It is so good and varied that people who eat vegan, vegetarian, GF, DF and meat have very good tasty choices. Don’t miss the lentil soup at the end of the buffet. The noise level is usually just fine for biz meetings. The red sauce on the table is a yummy addition. They take reservations (obviously - Open Table), and I usually make them in the semi-regular chance that everyone else needs to get their mitts on their food that day too.
Best baba ganoush!
Six of us went to Dar Salam Lazurdi on a recommendation by my daughter. We were not disappointed. Among us we ordered a variety of food. All was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. It was a great experience for all of us.
$17 for a small bowl of beans and shredded lamb and a whole bunch of rice and no other sides seemed really expensive.
The interior and experience was amazing but the food was not worth the price... We loved the black tea and the veg food..
Not enough food offered when the place is busy. Several Trays were empty. I am not saying 1 or 2 but several were empty. Embarrassing if you are bringing professional guests. Not a business meal in my opinion.
We tried the buffet and the Arak flight. We both enjoyed the buffet choices. The flavors were great. Service was very good during a busy lunch hour.
Our favorite meal in Portland
Had a open table reservation but we were sent away twice with the reason being "we don't take open table reservations"
We love Dar Salaam! The food is fresh, flavorful and surprising. Everything we have ordered there is great, but we especially love the beet salad, lamb khema, the pompano and the desserts. Oh, and the Cardamom gimlet is so lovely! GF options abound, as well.
Lunch buffet has a nice mix of dishes that are well-prepared. Excellent value in a well-run environment.
Went here for a business dinner with a large group of ~15. The food was delicious and service good. Some of the samplers could have been a little larger in terms of the amount of dip they provided but it was a good way to get the tables started regardless. Za'atar fries were also passed around a fair bit.
The food and service were great. I had the vegetarian stew and mint lemonade. Great flavor! The service was wonderful.
Our meal at Dar Salam Lazurdi was delicious. The eggplant stew and the chickpea stew (I am vegetarian) were both flavorful and lovely. The hummus and flatbread was very tasty. My friend had falafel, which she enjoyed very much. Our waiter was informative and friendly and the food was delivered to our table promptly (which was nice, as we were having a pre-theatre meal). I would highly recommend this restaurant for the quality of its food, service, and attention to detail. The owners are clearly proud of their Iraqi heritage and eager not only to share their knowledge of Iraqi cuisine, but of Iraqi culture as well, as evidenced by the interior decoration and a video presentation about Iraqi history and culture. This is an excellent restaurant (so is the sister restaurant on Alberta, Dar Salam, where I have also eaten).
The ambiance was pleasant, the service excellent. Great bloody mary. The rice was tasty and attractive. However, the kabobs were dry, - greatly in need of the sauces.
The food is absolutely delicious, I don't eat out much but I find myself thinking I want to eat there at least once a month! Lamb - yum.
Beautiful restaurant, great service and the food was absolutely amazing! Vegan and gluten free options available. Will recommend this restaurant to everyone! Thank you for the wonderful evening!
We really enjoyed it! Thank you so much! I felt so comfortable at Dar Salam Lazurdi and it felt like family to me. I felt I was at home. We Loved it! Thank You Elizabeth! The food was delicious and a great atmosphere.
Such a great experience! The items we ordered from their authentic middle eastern menu were absolutely fresh and delicious and the service was top notch, really warm and friendly. We can't wait to go back and we highly recommend!
The restaurant was clean and the noise level was minimal. The food was okay, not great. The lamb kabob was dry, the rice was bland. We were seated by the bathroom which is never great. The service was very good, the music was very nice.
I love this place! The food is great/original/authentic and the people are welcoming and respectful. Love love love!
Poor service. Not so great food. Sad place. Menus are not authentic.
Enjoyable lunch. The vegetarian options were good and very tasty. (Not healthy, if you care about that; I don't "mark restaurants down" for that, but just share for those who care.) Really nice service.
Excellent attentive service, delicious food and an amazing gluten-free selection. The shredded chicken with eggplant side instead of chick pea even fit my low-FODMAP diet. The rice was perfectly prepared. My companions loved the beet salad. Can't wait to go back. (The mezza was a little smaller than I expected, the dinner salad was iceberg lettuce, only minor disappointments.)
Dar Salam is a story as well as a restaurant. Once a romance, then a food truck, then a funky friendly place on Alberta, and now Lazurdi downtown. Walking in here you enter a reproduction of Nebuchadnezzar's Gates of Babylon (I've seen the original is in a museum in Berlin), you join the family whose restaurant is part of their story. Owners and their children and relatives are with you and your Iraqi food. Learn their story, but mostly enjoy their flavors. It you want rich complex flavors without pain, try any of their dishes. (If you need the pain, there is a hot sauce on the table for you.) My eggplant stew was 5 star. I'm plant based and there are lots of wonderful choices. So Meze platter or lentil soup, chickpea stew, onion dolmas, all await my return visit. I've been to the Alberta street version and the food is equal, but Lazurdi has a bit more environment, but both places are welcoming and friendly.
Overall great experience. We had 8 adults and one baby. Our server, Peter, was FANTASTIC. The food was delicious and we all left happy. We had reservations for 4:45 and by 5:30 the place was packed. Many of us had the lamb shank which was delicious. I highly recommend their falafel donuts and mezza tray. I would also get the black tea again.
