Our favorite meal in Portland
Had a open table reservation but we were sent away twice with the reason being "we don't take open table reservations"
We love Dar Salaam! The food is fresh, flavorful and surprising. Everything we have ordered there is great, but we especially love the beet salad, lamb khema, the pompano and the desserts. Oh, and the Cardamom gimlet is so lovely! GF options abound, as well.
Lunch buffet has a nice mix of dishes that are well-prepared. Excellent value in a well-run environment.
Went here for a business dinner with a large group of ~15. The food was delicious and service good. Some of the samplers could have been a little larger in terms of the amount of dip they provided but it was a good way to get the tables started regardless. Za'atar fries were also passed around a fair bit.
The food and service were great. I had the vegetarian stew and mint lemonade. Great flavor! The service was wonderful.
Our meal at Dar Salam Lazurdi was delicious. The eggplant stew and the chickpea stew (I am vegetarian) were both flavorful and lovely. The hummus and flatbread was very tasty. My friend had falafel, which she enjoyed very much. Our waiter was informative and friendly and the food was delivered to our table promptly (which was nice, as we were having a pre-theatre meal). I would highly recommend this restaurant for the quality of its food, service, and attention to detail. The owners are clearly proud of their Iraqi heritage and eager not only to share their knowledge of Iraqi cuisine, but of Iraqi culture as well, as evidenced by the interior decoration and a video presentation about Iraqi history and culture. This is an excellent restaurant (so is the sister restaurant on Alberta, Dar Salam, where I have also eaten).
The ambiance was pleasant, the service excellent. Great bloody mary. The rice was tasty and attractive. However, the kabobs were dry, - greatly in need of the sauces.
The food is absolutely delicious, I don't eat out much but I find myself thinking I want to eat there at least once a month! Lamb - yum.
Beautiful restaurant, great service and the food was absolutely amazing! Vegan and gluten free options available. Will recommend this restaurant to everyone! Thank you for the wonderful evening!
We really enjoyed it! Thank you so much! I felt so comfortable at Dar Salam Lazurdi and it felt like family to me. I felt I was at home. We Loved it! Thank You Elizabeth! The food was delicious and a great atmosphere.
Such a great experience! The items we ordered from their authentic middle eastern menu were absolutely fresh and delicious and the service was top notch, really warm and friendly. We can't wait to go back and we highly recommend!
The restaurant was clean and the noise level was minimal. The food was okay, not great. The lamb kabob was dry, the rice was bland. We were seated by the bathroom which is never great. The service was very good, the music was very nice.
I love this place! The food is great/original/authentic and the people are welcoming and respectful. Love love love!
Poor service. Not so great food. Sad place. Menus are not authentic.
Enjoyable lunch. The vegetarian options were good and very tasty. (Not healthy, if you care about that; I don't "mark restaurants down" for that, but just share for those who care.) Really nice service.
Excellent attentive service, delicious food and an amazing gluten-free selection. The shredded chicken with eggplant side instead of chick pea even fit my low-FODMAP diet. The rice was perfectly prepared. My companions loved the beet salad. Can't wait to go back. (The mezza was a little smaller than I expected, the dinner salad was iceberg lettuce, only minor disappointments.)
Dar Salam is a story as well as a restaurant. Once a romance, then a food truck, then a funky friendly place on Alberta, and now Lazurdi downtown. Walking in here you enter a reproduction of Nebuchadnezzar's Gates of Babylon (I've seen the original is in a museum in Berlin), you join the family whose restaurant is part of their story. Owners and their children and relatives are with you and your Iraqi food. Learn their story, but mostly enjoy their flavors. It you want rich complex flavors without pain, try any of their dishes. (If you need the pain, there is a hot sauce on the table for you.) My eggplant stew was 5 star. I'm plant based and there are lots of wonderful choices. So Meze platter or lentil soup, chickpea stew, onion dolmas, all await my return visit. I've been to the Alberta street version and the food is equal, but Lazurdi has a bit more environment, but both places are welcoming and friendly.
Overall great experience. We had 8 adults and one baby. Our server, Peter, was FANTASTIC. The food was delicious and we all left happy. We had reservations for 4:45 and by 5:30 the place was packed. Many of us had the lamb shank which was delicious. I highly recommend their falafel donuts and mezza tray. I would also get the black tea again.
Great food, friendly service. Only been to the lunch buffet, which has meat, GF and vegan options. The lentil soup is delicious. The buffet has different dishes different days, and some every day staples like hummus, rice and salad.
Delicious Iraqi cuisine incorporating fresh ingredients. Excellent service.
From the minute we sat down, we were treated kindly and thoughtfully. The food was incredible and surprisingly colorful. Wonderful experience. Check out the amazing beet salad!
We really enjoyed the food here! I had read positive reviews and decided to make a reservation. We were surprised it wasn't busier when we went, but perhaps that's because it was a weekday. The beet salad was phenomenal, the fish was amazing and my cardamom cocktail was truly unique and interesting. Will definitely go again.
I had been to Dar Salam for lunch and enjoyed its really goof buffet; so when we were taking friends out to dinner, I suggested it. Everyone loved the food and the service was very good. We were there on a night when there was live music and after the restaurant filled up and the music got going, it was hard to hold a conversation, so I am glad we got there early.
Dar Salam Lazurdi has become a go-to spot for us, whether dining alone or with friends. The food is excellent, the staff friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the decor is stunning. And if you have to drive downtown, there is parking right at the corner.
The restaurant was rather chilly when we arrived, but it seemed to warm up a bit later on.
The curried cauliflower was one of the best meals I've had in any restaurant. Its only drawback was the small portion; perhaps it could've been a little larger for $15. The taste, though, was intoxicatingly good!
The traditional Iraqi Fish (a lake whitefish) and the Dolmeh (2 warm types, onion and grape leaf) were wonderful. The decor and the Iraq antiquity videos playing in the background sites is transformative and you feel that you are far away from downtown Portland! Can't wait to check out there lunch buffet soon.
We had a very nice experience at Dar Salam. The staff were very friendly and responsive.
Food was really good, but portionshe were pretty small
I love the ambience, and the food is delicious. The tabouli is full of parsley and not overloaded with bulgar. The shredded lamb is lamb (not mutton), and the service is very good. I really like this restaurant!
I have enjoyed a fun casual dinner with friends and a professional business lunch where the noise level was good for a private conversation both from the point of view that we could hear one another but it wasn't so quiet that I thought we were easily overheard.
Outstanding food and a tremendous value for the lunch buffet. All food was very nicely presented and very tasty. I love the fact that the foods are so full of interesting flavors and spices. Delicious! I will be back.
We were impressed with the friendly, attentive service. The mosaic in various shades of blue and gold makes the restaurant feel warm and welcoming. The food was delicious, particularly the lentil soup, which was a creamy bisque, and the falafel and rice plate served with a chick pea stew. Wonderful baklava completed the excellent meal.
Good overall. Wait staff was friendly. It was not my favorite for this type of place, but good overall.
The food was delicious and different, compared to the standard Middle Eastern fare.
DELICIOUS! the saag paneer was supurb with a touch of sweetness.
