Daphne at Twisted Laurel
Was in town for class & a new find
Enjoyed the meal & service was good
I went early so they weren’t busy
Big negative was the very skimpy drinks
I had a cocktail that was barely a sip
Glass of wine for $12 & so little in the glass
I’d probably go back but would skip the bar
Which means I probably wouldn’t go back
After reviewing photos on their web site and reading reviews touting the new chef, we made reservations for four. The food didn't look anything like the photos but rather the way my mother plopped food on a plate all running together in an unattractive palate. My sandwich description included caramelized onions but there wasn't a single onion in the bun and the fries were old and cold. A second person had the chicken which not only was difficult to cut and the plating unattractive, the meat was tough. The other two diners had similar experiences. Will never return!
Wonderful restaurant. Got seated right away at a beautiful table overlooking the Asheville atmosphere outside. Waitresses were very attentive and personable. Explained the food well and gave recommendations on drinks and food. The food was absolutely amazing. Fresh and delicious and presented beautifully. Highly recommended.
Outstanding food, a great location, and friendly and professional staff. This place is a true "do not miss" spot in downtown Asheville.
First of all, the service was VERY slow, our waitress came about 2 times in the whole hour that we were there, it wasn't at all busy. It took like 30 minutes before we actually got our food and it wasn't very good. It was about ten dollars for 6 onion rings , we had 4 people. We got a kids pizza, 2 subs, 1 salad, and 2 apps, our total bill was $70. It was completely not worth it at all. We could have gone somewhere else and gotten the same stuff for half the price. All of our food was cold when we got it, when we ordered drinks, they didn't come until we were almost done with our food. It was really bad and I would not recommend it to anyone.
We had an excellent gyro platter and the price was very reasonable. Our server was prompt, efficient and the atmosphere was casual and friendly.
Nice little place - very friendly staff - good value dining - highly recommend!
Had a great experience at Twisted Laurel. Experienced great service, great drinks, and great music. Food was also very good and was brought out promtly after it was ordered. Would definitely recommend to all.
Twisted Laurel is a beautiful restaurant in a prime location in downtown Asheville. We have eaten there many times, and as locals we spent Christmas Eve there with our family this year. The food is good...although I wish they had more variety on the menu. We love the ambiance and the amount of seating for large groups.
Our table was ready and waiting when we arrived, the server was attentive and friendly . We had a party of 16 and she handled it professionally. As usual the food was delicious. I think we all ordered something different and all were pleased!
Went for a late dinner after arriving into town. Food met expectations and the server was excellent. Because we were eating late, a musician was performing that was acoustic and at a comfortable sound level. We enjoyed the music. The noise seems to be due to the physical aspects of the building. High ceilings, concrete, glass and steel for an industrial feel that does work.
Bottom-line, we will come again, but maybe for lunch or an early evening. Worth the visit. I agree with the $$ rating for prices.
Dined here twice while in Asheville. Good food and great drinks both times.
My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner here. He ordered the eggplant stack and it was amazing! Fun cocktails too. We highly recommend.
Great food, decent pricing, and mediocre service. The apps are really good and we all were impressed by the entrees. This could be a staple go to place for dinner if the service was not so horrific. Our server, who I also believe may have been a manager, seemed more occupied with talking to the host and hanging out at the end of the bar chatting with staff than offering prompt and timely service. I ended up having to give a member of my group my beverage because she never refilled his drink. The food was the shinning star, but waitstaff needs some work.
Everything was just OK. Not particularly disappointing, but also nothing special.
The pork was over salted
Third time for me!
Brought six friends for dinner who had never been there before.
They will all be repeat customers!
Stopped buy while in Asheville. It was a top rated restaurant near our location. We ate outside on the porch and it was a delightful atmosphere. The Greek style menu was good and the food was well prepared.
Service lacked a little, it was slow and they had problems with their computer adding to the problem. The couple next to us were there 2 hours. Ours wasn't that bad but I imagine that if it was very crowded it would be worse. It wasn't that busy when we were there.
But we were there to relax and eat some good food, so we enjoyed our dinner.
Not impressed. The food wasn't seasoned well and I can't eat cheese so there were very few options on the menu for me to choose from. Not going back for the food but the atmosphere was cool.
One of my favorites! Amazing food with a reasonable price. Always had good service here.
Great experience in all ways. Food was prepared perfectly and our waitress, Cheryl, was outstanding. We will be back soon!
Interesting menu, has good food and service and a convenient location
Service very good and friendly. Food mediocre at best. Convenient location.
We had just arrived in Asheville to start our vacation. We used Open Table App to book our dinner. We arrived ahead of scheduled time but they seated us right away. Our waitress was Katie. Katie was very knowledgeable about the food and local craft beers. She said please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. She expected us to have questions and she was ready with the answers.
We ordered the twisted laurel. Three different kinds of hummus served with big logs of feta cheese with pita triangles. It was delicious. We ordered the lasagna. It was served hot and was delicious. We will definitely return to this restaurant again and tell all our friends.
The restaurant was extremely noisy. We were seated at a high table on uncomfortable bar stools with no backs. This was especially difficult for my 5 year old and also forced us to place jackets and purses on the floor. The food was good but service seemed to be a chore for the several folks who waited on us. I don't know that I would visit again.
Based on Trip Advisor research thought it may be good place for meeting friends. Was too loud. Food was ok. Did like the tag team wait staff, not on top of us, but someone was always there for new drink, bus table, bring water etc
Seemed more of a bar crowd in a restaurant type setting
I had heard that Twisted Laurel was great and my favorite food is Greek food, so when friends suggested meeting up here, I jumped at the chance. They easily accommodated our rather unconventional group and were very patient with us. The service was more than we could have asked for or expected.
The food is fabulous and a great value for the price. Anyone can easily find something to fit their palate and price range.
If you want a suggestion, you MUST try the Trout Dip appetizer! Mmmmmmmm
Casual dinning ...relaxed atmosphere ..nicely decorated. Food average.
Service was wonderful, the sweet waitress named Kai did a wonderful job. Food was great.
The food was excellent once it arrived. The timing of the meal was quite off. It took about 10-15 mins for a server to come. Once they did, they were very nice. The first round of entrees came out and two of us were missing our entrees until the first people were completely finished. The food was great!! Just wanted it to come at the same time.
What a great find! When we arrived we were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant, but the manager asked if we wanted to move to a table by the window which was a little bit more intimate. And what a suggestion because the chairs were far more comfortable too! The folks seated outside had a great view as well and seemed to be quite comfortable. The food was so great we ended up ordering too much and had to bring the rest home...which was still good the next day! With a Greek flavor, any of the pasta dishes are killer, but my favorite part was the starters. Do yourself a favor and don't miss out on the nachos. I can't wait to go back to try more from the amazing menu.
The greeter/hostess was great, the floor manager was great, the server was horrible. We had viewed the menu online before arriving so we could order all when we sat down with our drinks, our server actually refused to take our order and said she had to take the order of the table that sat before us before we could order, unbelievable. She was all over the place not a dedicated section as we watched her go outside several times so we were really confused if the server had this big of a section. I think had we had another server our experience would have been more positive. The server we had just seemed out of place, we noticed the other staff had more of a uniform and our was wearing lace pants, not really server attire.
There was a menu in trip advisor which wasn't the same as offered. Very little vegetarian so ordered the lentil soup. It was cold and thin...could have been a watered down version of a can of Amy's...my friend ordered the mushroom burger. It was still cold in the middle like it had been frozen. It was sent back and the next one wasn't terrible but not exceptional. At least it was hot. The waiter was very apologetic ..but since we had to wait for two orders, we asked for some discount which was given at $5.00. Not exactly a invitation to go back. We won't. Sorry, it just didn't work for us... Especially since it was a birthday celebration
Which was also not acknowledged in any way by the service
Decided to try this bistro prior to a performance at the Asheville Community Theatre (ACT). Dinner began well with terrific salads. Things went downhill from there...mostly due to service (or more correctly, lack thereof). After waiting nearly 2 hours while diners around us came and left, we were presented with cold food and nearly missed the performance. Management comped our "dinners", which was fair...given the circumstances. However, this conveniently located eatery will need to "step up" markedly to keep Asheville's regular diners coming back.
We were sat rather quickly as was a large party right after us, right behind us - same size party. It took the server more than 7 minutes to come to us to ask for drinks, meanwhile another server said "ill get you guys some waters!" - well, it was another 11 minutes until our actual drinks came, and we still had no gotten waters - but the table behind us, who came after us, had. The server said "we ran out of glasses."
Our drinks came, our food came - it was ok, nothing amazing. Our appetizer came after our entire meal was done. The manager said "don't worry, those are on me." - really? When we got these rice balls after our pizza and after we had completely finished our meal? You think you were doing us a favor?
We should have walked out after the server took so long to get to us. The place is not that big and I thought the service was poor and the food was ok. Would not recommend.
First waked in was greeted by a gentleman, who I think was the owner. Very good first impression. He was very nice and seated us right away. But service went down from there. Waitress brought us water than disappeared. I believe to wait on another group that came in after us. Then a second waitress came over and explained she was busy and were we ready to order. We had been waiting 10 minutes. I explained we hadn't even put in a drink order. She took that, but took a while to come back. Then took our dinner order. It was a party of two. I ordered a salad and entree and other person just had an entree. My salad came out, but I had only taken about 3 bites when the entrees came out. Now I was feeling rushed. I had waited for them and now they wanted to turn the table. So by the time I got to my entree it had gotten cold. The food was very good tasting and presentation was good. Service ruined it. If the service was better I would recommend this place. Bad service ruins the meal for you.
Twisted Laurel took a reservation for 14 of us. we were on a golf trip so you had 14 loud and rowdy middle to old men. the table was set up and waiting for us. the manager greeted us and had two servers wait on us. great service food was great and they did an outstanding job with our group. Big thanks to the whole team there for putting up with us and providing great service and food
Food was excellent! Atmosphere was good! The only downfall was we had awful service only from our waitress.. The rest of the staff was great and helped us, but our waitress never once (and I'm not exaggerating) checked on us from the time we got our food until she gave us the bill. That kind of ruined the experience, but the food and manager were more than great.
Woefully understaffed! We were seated quickly enough but then overheard the couple next to us complain to a waiter that they had been waiting 15 minutes just to see a menu. Granted we were with a conference at a nearby hotel, but they didn't appear to be prepared for the summer increase in traffic in the downtown area. If you go there, be sure to look around and see if they appear to have adequate wait staff.
Great choice for dinner!
Service was outstanding and food was delicious. Would highly recommendThe Twisted Laurel as an alternative to the more expensive places in town.
