Our favorite place for fine dining in Manhattan. Daniel is an absolute classic. Save it for a special occasion and eat in the salon, where things are a bit more laid back.
An amazing dining experience from start to finish...first class restaurant!
One of my best dining experience..really love the foie gras..
Services are excellent.
Really satisfied..thank you for such a memorable night..great food, outstanding services.. surely come back again
This restaurant is touted to be the utmost in excellence. The bar area is cozy and elegant and presentation unique. The dining room is exquisite yet very large and impersonal. Wait staff are attentive yet seem to be on a tight schedule. Food is amazing and delicious...
I've been entertaining clients at Daniel since 2000 and just finished dinner there for the third time in three months. Unfortunately I have to write a cautionary and meh review. These have all been business dinners--- the prix fixe menu of four courses with wine which, with gratuity, amount to about $350 per person. My observations are these:
Daniel, your food is inexcusably uneven. One course can be wonderful, and the next disappointing. Tonight, 2 out of 3 (excluding the fourth course, cheese) were outright dreadful. On the upside, the hamachi with beet notes was amazing. The same went for the veal--- the veal is consistently the very best result every night this season. The lamb, on the other hand, is woeful. The langoustine isn't much better. The white asparagus middle course was average, with the hollandaise as the star. The foie gras--- what's with that giant schmear of mango across the middle of the plate, with all that tangled mess to the side? Do you know how unappealing it is visually? The tableside flambe cannot save it. I've been having things flamed tableside since I was a kid eating at average steakhouses in Texas. Drama can't substitute for taste.
Recently the majority of courses have come out lukewarm to room temperature. I personally have this *thing* about lukewarm food. Beef and veal and lamb and fish should, I believe, come out piping hot. Do you agree? If so, someone in the kitchen either isn't paying attention or the timing is just really off. This is unexpected, especially when I've had so many other wonderful experiences as I've been dining at Daniel for so many years.
The wines, as always, are outstanding, and the wine staff are wonderful. The ambience of the room is gorgeous. The table service is some of the best in the business. Something in the heart of the food is missing, however--- at least to me. I hope you get it back, and soon.
I find it interesting that the best restaurants have the best bread and I sometimes wish I could take my entry and eat it as a sandwich This was especially true of Daniel although the bread and menu took too long to get to us The amis bouche was outstanding, great starter, but second and main had loads of asparagus which made me wonder if they got a deal But real comment was sole In the past this was two tootsie roll size pieces This week it was with shrimp which added nothing and almost no taste of the fish Will go back again because it has good food, good clientele (nice to see everyone wearing suits or jackets) and class Won't be ordering fish, maybe an extra roll
As always, our welcome, the service and the food was
exceptional. My only quibble was that the dessert menu was a bit convoluted and difficult. The desserts, as they came by our table looked gorgeous, but lots of mousses and not one piece of cake.
I cannot say enough good things about our dinner at Daniel! Fabulous food with sensational wines! The staff go out of their way to make certain that your experience is memorable! You won't be disappointed!
Great customer service. Great food. Lovely night out. We had the vegetarian options and were delighted.
Mother’s Day dinner for five: I rarely write reviews of anything, although I travel and dine out frequently. Our experience at Daniel was simply one of the best dining experiences we have had, ever. It compares with our past dining experiences at the former Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago, the Jules Verne in the Eiffel Tower, Paris, the restaurant at the former Relais and Chateaux, the Auberge de Noves in Provence, the Chateau Chèvre d’Or and exceeds the dozens of Michelin Star restaurants in the US and beyond we have explored. The room was lovely and quiet enough for conversation at a table for five; our waiter attentive but unobtrusive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu of the day and eager to make sure we were pleased with all aspects of our dining experience; the sommelier gave us both moderate and high priced wine and champagne recommendations that were spot on; and each of the appetizers, entrees and desserts were beautifully presented, the correct temperature, and were delicious. Two of our party do not appreciate most elaborate desserts, so we were offered cheese instead, which was also wonderful. At the end of the meal we were given mini-cakes in a lovely little box to enjoy later or the next day. The tab, as expected, was quite high, but worth every penny.
Always really good food, really good service; always reliable. One of New York’s finest restaurants. Recommend unreservedly!
Excellent service, fabulous food, totally enjoyable dining experience
The service is truly superlative, best of anywhere I have been. Leaves Per Se in the dust. The pleasant din of the other diners in the room nuances the experience. The sommelier’s choices for the tasting menu were both spot on and pleasantly surprising.
Very good food
A magical restaurant with wonderful service, Daniel does not disappoint. We came to celebrate a birthday with the 7-course (8, including an extra cheese course) tasting menu. The entire almost 4-hour evening was wonderful, and we were certainly satisfied and satiated by the end. The tastings were flavorful, imaginative, and well-presented. We were seated outside the main dining area on the perimeter - a great place to observe the dining scene while being relatively private ourselves. I glanced at the formidable wine list briefly, noting very familiar 1st growth Bordeaux at 4-figure prices, and was happy to choose the upscale wine pairings instead. In doing so, we then had the benefit of receiving very insightful comments from the wine captain throughout the evening, adding to the subtle festivity of the evening. They also provided a very quietly elegant birthday dessert offering to our celebrant - a well-received touch.
One pays for such elegance - our tab came to over $600 per person with tip. Therefore, one does not casually drop by for a quick bite. However, for truly special occasions, Daniel is unmatched for Old World quality, charm, and service.
Light music on the back ground would be nice
Birthday Party and get together with friends who are all from different cities
Once in a lifetime anniversary dinner. Fabulous!!!
Wonderful food as always. However, they had especially excellent service as well. I had a special request for my husband’s birthday and they were very accommodating.
Thank you Chef!
Most amazing birthday meal ever!
Fantastic on every level!
Great experience. Great food, staff was amazing!
We went there as a group of 5 people. The food was great! Scallop and foie gras were fantastic! Every person was given a take-home gift- a box of cannel! Highly recommended!
This was a memorable meal. Everything from decor to service, food, ambiance was exceptional. Pricey but worth it!
Our reservation was for 5 PM. We had to wait outside the restaurant until 5:01 as the doors were locked.
I would expect a restaurant of this caliber to at least allow patrons to sit in the lounge. When the doors opened we were then seated in a hallway until our table was ready.
My suggestion if you are planning to go to the theater book a table for 5, but don’t show up until 5:10.
Once in the restaurant everything was wonderful.
Incredible food and service.
By far the best dining experience in NYC. I am surprised that Daniel does not have 3 stars, given all the contributing factors that blow places like Per Se and Le Bernardin out of the water. Cannot wait to visit Daniel again soon
We are in New York for a meeting. Everything about Daniel was superb! The atmosphere and service was excellent and the food and presentation was incredible! Thank you for an amazing experience!
Impeccable, top notch, and friendly service without pretentiousness. The Sommelier, Kira, did a wonderful, spot on job pairing wines with each course. Each course was artistically presented. The food was flawlessly prepared, nuanced and tasted wonderful.
Amazing. Delicious food and great service.
Un lugar único, donde cada detalle esta cuidadosamente pensado. Hay un trabajo superlativo en cada plato, que lo convierte en una experiencia inigualable!
Amazing food, amazing staff !
Thank you for this incredible night.
Just superb, start to finish.
Just amazing - Best anniversary email I could ask for.
