What Insiders Are Saying
Our favorite place for fine dining in Manhattan. Daniel is an absolute classic. Save it for a special occasion and eat in the salon, where things are a bit more laid back.
Great all rounder
A lovely meal. The dining room was full and quite buzzy on the Thursday night that we visited. We were surprised to see most tables turn over durring our meal. Food was as expected and well timed. We enjoyed the step up wine pairing with our meals, and found most choices to be well appointed. I think the one that fell short for me did so based on trying to accomdate the greatest number of pallets. Our evening was enjoyed and on par with meals we have had in Lyon, Paris, the Champagne region and Per Se here in New York.
Best restaurant, service, food ever! The waiters, sommelier, and everyone else was amazing to myself and my family. Had our 2 teenage daughters with us and it was definitely a highlight of our New York City trip! Will definitely be going back next time in town. We did the 7 course chef tasting menu and it was incredible. They even made virgin white cosmopolitans for our daughter. Beautiful and yummy evidently.
Amazing spacious dining room- made it feel private as nothing was cramped or too loud. Service was impeccable right down to the server assistants. The professionalism showed in every aspect. Food was incredible, I recommend the foie gras because they flambé it tableside! But nothing beats the service, I felt like a queen.
Family dinner for my birthday. As ever, spectacular food and impeccable service. The maître ‘D in the lounge is a total professional and makes the evening even botter.
Apenas justo para la calidad de comida !! Sin duda buscaría algo diferente
A fabulous experience...everything was impeccable!
Quiet and elegant atmosphere with staff that are attentive and professional yet relaxed enough to carry a natural conversation, very good food with exquisite wine pairings and cocktails!
Can’t think of a better place to go for a special occasion! Food and service were beyond fabulous.
Excellent service and tasting menu. Perfect for a special treat or extravagant weekend.
Exquisite food, Luxe service, posh environment. Each bite better than the last. Hard to imagine better- visit Paris without leaving the City!
Attentive waitstaff. Pricey but well worth it for a special occasion.
Daniel was fantastic. The environment was lovely and the food great. I went to celebrate a birthday and couldn't have been happier with the outcome. The service was truly impeccable. The waitstaff was attentive and knowledgable.
Third time there and it never disappoints. Can’t get out for under $200-250 per person total, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Perfect food, service, ambience.
My husband & I had the vegetarian tasting menu for our 5 year anniversary dinner in June. We usually go to Jean Georges or Le Bernardin for special occasions; last year we went to Blue Hill at Stone Barns, this year wanted to revisit Daniel, where we hadn't been in 10+ years. We will not return. The menu was poorly conceived. It was mushroom heavy, lacked brightness, didn't in any way capture the beautiful bounty of the vegetable season which is so accessible from local farmers in Union Square! The dishes were, moreover, poorly executed. My husband accurately described one dish as, "basically a home fry with soggy mushrooms scattered on top." The mushrooms in that dish had been crowded in the pan and were soggy and rubbery. In another dish, the cèpe was raw on the inside, unsalted, and tasted bitter. One roasted red pepper dish not only looked awful, but tasted like the inside of a fajita! The plating, too, was lacking. Everything was beige and brown, there was too little brightness visually, many plates were finished with little squiggles and drops of brown paste (mushroom, perhaps?) which looked unfortunately like animal droppings. The flavors were dark, too, everything lacking salt, acidity, flavor. The pacing of the courses was off, with the first few coming too quickly, and the last several, especially the raw cèpe, sitting before us uneaten with our forks and knives set across the side of our plates for more than 35 minutes. Despite not lingering over any course because we enjoyed them so little, we were still at the restaurant for 3.5 hours. In mid June the roses, fields and flowers of New York are bursting with beauty and color, but the greens filling the vases in the corners of the dining room were dull and lifeless, and the décor of the dining room itself looked tired. The sommelier was excellent, so was the wine, the staff was friendly. But those few things aren't enough to bring us back when Jean Georges & Le Bernardin are so close, are so excellent.
7th wedding anniversary
Outstanding and exquisite overall. The food and wine, excellent. Extremely friendly and helpful staff who were able to give good advice and information regarding anything to do with the menu and wine list. Service was impeccable. Beautiful surroundings with very interesting and fitting artwork, which I discussed in detail with the Restaurant Manager, who was able to provide the background history and answers to my questions. A magical experience.
Our meal was fantastic. The attention paid to us made us feel special, the food was absolutely delicious, and the ambiance was elegant. Chris, our head waiter, was very informative.
Outstanding in every aspect! Food was exceptional. Portions are just right especially since there are always special treats from the chef.
Service was also flawless. Everyone is friendly and very professional. It’s one of the best dining experiences you can have in NYC.
Excellent restaurant!!! I will come back for sure. Congratulations to the chef and all the team
It was not the first time we went to Daniel.
We are from Brazil and wherever we are in NY we don’t miss the opportunity to have this outstanding experience !
We could give Daniel all the stars in the sky !
Dads birthday exquisite food and service fancy dining
An old bastion of NYC fine dining appears to have reached its peak and is now in a speedy descent to the bottom. Service was sloppy, but friendly. Service staff were incredibly polite but failed multiple time to produce food to the table in the way the chef would want. As for the food.....flavors clashed and meat was average quality and Luke warm.
If you're looking to spend $ on a meal, NYC has many other places you should go I am afraid to say.
One shining light here....the sommelier....she was superb
Incredible food and amazing service.
Exceeded all my expectations!
Delicious and beautifully presented food including generous portion sizes. The waiter safe were extremely friendly. This restaurant has been on my list of restaurants to try in NYC and it was definitely worth the trip all the way from Sydney, Australia. Would definitely come back.
Phenomenal! From the moment you walked into the dinning room, to the house-made cannele in a gift box for patrons to enjoy in their own time. The service and food were impeccable. The attention to details was unsurpassed and it was evident in every single dish presented. You could tell everyone at DANIEL is passionate about their work. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and we couldn’t be any more delighted. Very reasonably priced for such an experience. We were still talking about it the next day!
It was good but pricey!
This was our fourth time at Daniel. We had excellent experiences the past three. This was the first time we have taken one of our sons who appreciates fine food. Unfortunately the menu and creations weren't to our liking this evening. Also my son almost had a heart attack upon viewing the bill. He ordered a coke, they asked if he wanted another, and another. He assumed it was free refills. It was a ten oz glass with ice, so 6 to 7 ozs from the gun, cost of about 10 cents a glass to Daniel. They charged $30 for the three cokes. So obviously all the costs there are unreasonable but you just expect the food to be spectacular and it wasn't this trip other than the bread which is why we gained weight from the encounter.
Lovely. Calm, relaxed. Very special meal.
40th Birthday and it was memorable thanks to hubby and the exceptional attention we received from the minute we walked in to our departure. Thank you for making it more than special!!! I can’t forget to mention the “carrot” Phenomenal, love that Daniel caters to everyone’s lifestyle! Mayor brownie points for that. Would have LOVED to have met the man himself now that would have been the icing on the cake. Next time ;)
Was really fabulous as usual. I have been going here since it opened. The food was better than ever.
Pricey but worth it. Staff was friendly. Not pompous or stuffy. So many nice touches. Truly memorable experience.
In NYC with our parents celebrating 83rd birthday. Everything was outstanding! It was even more special because Chef Daniel stopped at our table in the bar to say hi!
This was our 4th visit to Daniel and it has never disappointed!
Daniel is still the best restaurant in NYC.
The experience was certainly a wow
Simplemente extraordinario, fuera de este mundo. La atención, el sabor, los vinos todo de excelente calidad.
