What Insiders Are Saying
Our favorite place for fine dining in Manhattan. Daniel is an absolute classic. Save it for a special occasion and eat in the salon, where things are a bit more laid back.
Excellent restaurant!!! I will come back for sure. Congratulations to the chef and all the team
An old bastion of NYC fine dining appears to have reached its peak and is now in a speedy descent to the bottom. Service was sloppy, but friendly. Service staff were incredibly polite but failed multiple time to produce food to the table in the way the chef would want. As for the food.....flavors clashed and meat was average quality and Luke warm.
If you're looking to spend $ on a meal, NYC has many other places you should go I am afraid to say.
One shining light here....the sommelier....she was superb
Delicious and beautifully presented food including generous portion sizes. The waiter safe were extremely friendly. This restaurant has been on my list of restaurants to try in NYC and it was definitely worth the trip all the way from Sydney, Australia. Would definitely come back.
Phenomenal! From the moment you walked into the dinning room, to the house-made cannele in a gift box for patrons to enjoy in their own time. The service and food were impeccable. The attention to details was unsurpassed and it was evident in every single dish presented. You could tell everyone at DANIEL is passionate about their work. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here and we couldn’t be any more delighted. Very reasonably priced for such an experience. We were still talking about it the next day!
It was good but pricey!
This was our fourth time at Daniel. We had excellent experiences the past three. This was the first time we have taken one of our sons who appreciates fine food. Unfortunately the menu and creations weren't to our liking this evening. Also my son almost had a heart attack upon viewing the bill. He ordered a coke, they asked if he wanted another, and another. He assumed it was free refills. It was a ten oz glass with ice, so 6 to 7 ozs from the gun, cost of about 10 cents a glass to Daniel. They charged $30 for the three cokes. So obviously all the costs there are unreasonable but you just expect the food to be spectacular and it wasn't this trip other than the bread which is why we gained weight from the encounter.
Lovely. Calm, relaxed. Very special meal.
40th Birthday and it was memorable thanks to hubby and the exceptional attention we received from the minute we walked in to our departure. Thank you for making it more than special!!! I can’t forget to mention the “carrot” Phenomenal, love that Daniel caters to everyone’s lifestyle! Mayor brownie points for that. Would have LOVED to have met the man himself now that would have been the icing on the cake. Next time ;)
Was really fabulous as usual. I have been going here since it opened. The food was better than ever.
Pricey but worth it. Staff was friendly. Not pompous or stuffy. So many nice touches. Truly memorable experience.
In NYC with our parents celebrating 83rd birthday. Everything was outstanding! It was even more special because Chef Daniel stopped at our table in the bar to say hi!
This was our 4th visit to Daniel and it has never disappointed!
Daniel is still the best restaurant in NYC.
The experience was certainly a wow
Simplemente extraordinario, fuera de este mundo. La atención, el sabor, los vinos todo de excelente calidad.
Fantastic, can’t fault it.
best restaurant in NyC
The staff was professional, yet friendly and fun. The setting was beautiful. The food exquisite. Very expensive, but something you should experience if you can.
Absolutely perfect, especially the service by Myner.
Special, elegant, one-of-a-kind with superb food, service and ambiance.
Amazing! Much better than expexted! Everyone’s very polite and gentle. Delicate in every detail. The cuisine is outstanding!
Excellent food, presentation and ambiance.
Phenomenal. Exquisite. Personable.
Daniel was one of the most memorable, well-executed dining experiences that I have had in New York so far. Service was impeccably choreographed and knowledgeable, and the food was as good as any Michelin starred restaurant I've been to in the Tri-State area.
Incredible experience all around. I think if you're going to Daniel you know and expect what you're going to get. Absolutely fantastic
Fine dining- at it’s finest.
Service from everyone on the staff is absolutely first class. The food was pretty good, I have to admit I was expecting a little bit more. There is nothing that really really jumped out at me as being overwhelmingly outstanding, however it was a great experience overall.
Amazing food and ambience but the service was a little choppy...server taking our desserts before we finished.
Life changing experience. Service was impeccable. Food was incredible.
I was compelled to review this restaurant because it was markedly discrepant from the reviews that I read. We wanted to try Daniel after the extraordinary reviews and we knew of Daniel Boloud as a top chef. I have to say that I was very disappointed in the meal. We got the vegetarian tasting menu. Except for the appetizer and the dessert, the rest of the 7 course menu was horrible. It features a bunch of veggies that were uninspiring, lacked in flavor and frankly distasteful. We didn’t want to finish our small dishes because it frankly didn’t taste good at all. After eating at other Michelin star restaurants, we know that there are ways to use vegetarian ingredients and make delicious and tasty food.
This restaurant may have better tasting food if you order the non vegetarian options. However, you shouldn’t offer a vegetarian tasting menu if you can’t deliver, especially for this price . The service was amazing and the restaurant appeared nice ( not amazing ambience but ok).
Overall, we had better food in NYC for less than half the price .
One of my best dining experience..really love the foie gras..
Services are excellent.
Really satisfied..thank you for such a memorable night..great food, outstanding services.. surely come back again
Fabulous all round, cannot fault anything at all, highly recommended!
This restaurant is touted to be the utmost in excellence. The bar area is cozy and elegant and presentation unique. The dining room is exquisite yet very large and impersonal. Wait staff are attentive yet seem to be on a tight schedule. Food is amazing and delicious...
I've been entertaining clients at Daniel since 2000 and just finished dinner there for the third time in three months. Unfortunately I have to write a cautionary and meh review. These have all been business dinners--- the prix fixe menu of four courses with wine which, with gratuity, amount to about $350 per person. My observations are these:
Daniel, your food is inexcusably uneven. One course can be wonderful, and the next disappointing. Tonight, 2 out of 3 (excluding the fourth course, cheese) were outright dreadful. On the upside, the hamachi with beet notes was amazing. The same went for the veal--- the veal is consistently the very best result every night this season. The lamb, on the other hand, is woeful. The langoustine isn't much better. The white asparagus middle course was average, with the hollandaise as the star. The foie gras--- what's with that giant schmear of mango across the middle of the plate, with all that tangled mess to the side? Do you know how unappealing it is visually? The tableside flambe cannot save it. I've been having things flamed tableside since I was a kid eating at average steakhouses in Texas. Drama can't substitute for taste.
Recently the majority of courses have come out lukewarm to room temperature. I personally have this *thing* about lukewarm food. Beef and veal and lamb and fish should, I believe, come out piping hot. Do you agree? If so, someone in the kitchen either isn't paying attention or the timing is just really off. This is unexpected, especially when I've had so many other wonderful experiences as I've been dining at Daniel for so many years.
The wines, as always, are outstanding, and the wine staff are wonderful. The ambience of the room is gorgeous. The table service is some of the best in the business. Something in the heart of the food is missing, however--- at least to me. I hope you get it back, and soon.
Spectacular. Everything about it.
I find it interesting that the best restaurants have the best bread and I sometimes wish I could take my entry and eat it as a sandwich This was especially true of Daniel although the bread and menu took too long to get to us The amis bouche was outstanding, great starter, but second and main had loads of asparagus which made me wonder if they got a deal But real comment was sole In the past this was two tootsie roll size pieces This week it was with shrimp which added nothing and almost no taste of the fish Will go back again because it has good food, good clientele (nice to see everyone wearing suits or jackets) and class Won't be ordering fish, maybe an extra roll
