Dancing Marlin Ratings and Reviews
See my comments on Yelp! under "William B." We made an online reservation TWO WEEKS PRIOR to our dining date. We requested a particular, easily-accessible table for my 88-year-old father who walks with a cane, AND included a "backup," or second-choice, table. Both were occupied when we arrived, and neither was open again for 15-20 minutes, so we had to settle for something else. This was our fifth or sixth visit to the Dancing Marlin. I SERIOUSLY doubt we'll be returning, since making a reservation appears to mean nothing to these people.
We have recently discovered Dancing Marlin and it quickly has become one of our favorite restaurants. We love the small plate experience and the food is excellent. We brought neighbors with us this time and we were able to order more choices to try since we had four in our party. The only drawback for me is the noise level in the restaurant when it’s crowded. It’s hard to have a conversation and at times it’s hard on the ears . All in all though, we love the restaurant and we will be back often.
This place offers great food that places nearby can't compete with. We waited an hour which was a bit long, the lobby is not big enough to hold all the people waiting. We were also seated next to a 40 year old birthday party, which was extremely loud and obnoxious. We could not ever hear each other. Management should have stepped in and reminded the people we are in a restaurant, not someone's personal home.
Great service but the food was inconsistent and more like bar food. The shrimp and grits did not taste fresh and the pig and fig was rolled in a big piece of fatty bacon. Our server was the best part. Otherwise it is very crowded and a bit noisy to have a relaxing dinner. The prices are not as cheap as they appear because servings are smaller. We ordered 4 plates for just the two of us.
Great ambiance! Rick our server was excellent and we enjoyed his fun attitude and knowledge of the menu items. The noise level on a Sunday early dinner hour was louder than our comfort level so we probably won't be able to dine here on a full house evening and expect to have decent conversation with our party members. Great in all other ways.
We drove almost an hour to the Dancing Marlin after seeing it on Check Please. The food was amazing with many more Gluten Free options than most restaurants. The flavor combinations of these unique shareable bites were divine! Drinks were good, many choices and the on tap drinks was a very novel and sustainable quality. Dessert was heavenly, we had bourbon tarts. Definitely try the Bone Marrow and the beet salad. We will be back for sure!
We very much enjoyed the food. Four of us shared a total of 10 plates and we had more than enough food. We enjoyed the preparation and freshness of each selection. The only distraction was the loud music and "saloon" like atmosphere in the main room which made table conversation all but impossible in our separate small room. Without prompting, our server arrived at our table to apologize for the noise level and a promise to get the speakers turned down in the room. Unfortunately, it was not enough. This "atmosphere" really distracted from the evening. I'll go back for the food but will check to be sure there is no live music for the evening.
Our server was enthusiastic, friendly, and knowledgeable of the selections. The selections were varied and delicious. The following are recommendations: Korean bbq Shrimp, Little Bite Chicken Fried, Spicy Garlic Shrimp, Chopped Salad, Shrimp & Chorizo tacos, and the Pizza on the children's menu.
Not real impressed to be honest. Entrance/waiting area VERY cramped and not well laid out. Hostess seemed to be a bit flustered with the amount of customers.
Once seated, service was pretty good. Many of their drinks are pre-made and they taste pre-made. Would not order one of the spigot drinks again.
Food was OK but nothing really noteworthy or outstanding.
Probably will not bothering going again.
Had 3 people and all 3 had to get the brunch special or not at all. Is a small restaurant thought it would be easy enough to "catch" someone sharing - severely limited the options for the table as plenty of food was offered with the brunch. Enjoyed the breakfast tacos but they were "out" of seafood guac that was apparently featured on Check Please and server said they were not making more ? this was at 1030 am . Food was very good except for the biscuits which were under done and grey in color on the inside - possibly leftover dough? I would like to try again so I could try other options on the menu. Great toppings were offered on the bloody mary bar especially the shrimp.
Always a great experience at Dancing Marlin! Having lived in the city forever, this is such a refreshing find amongst the Chili's and Applebee's. Great food, with plenty of options, and all served tapas style, making it a great opportunity to try many different things. Our favorite was shockingly the General Tso's Chicken- soo good. This place is a must try!
I’ve driven past this place many times. It is the epitome of neighborhood gem. We looked at the reviews and took a chance. Our entire party loved it! We had vegetarians, pescatarians, and those with no restrictions in our group. There was something for everyone. Also, the drinks were amazing! Outstanding service and energetic ambiance as well.
Been here many times - This experience right on par. Server Rick was a little slow to start as he was training a new server. But he picked it up. Suggestions of scallops was delicious and loving that the seafood guacamole has reappeared, although the addition of shrimp instead of just using crab was a twist. Liked the pumpkin Pierogi as well!
I recommended Dancing Marlin to my friends for a birthday dinner and I could tell that everyone was a little apprehensive, like I was the first time I was invited there, but everyone loved it! We have some picky eaters in the group but everyone found things they loved on the menu. The tapas style is great for groups and the drinks were amazing. I would recommend Dancing Marlin to anyone!
They had a dueling pianos the night we went and they were great. The food was amazing!!! Right when you walk in the door the service was great from the hostess to the wait staff. The waiter knew the menu and what to recommend. We really liked the seasonal items on the menu. It is a great place we are going back for sure!!!
This was my second time to The Dancing Marlin. I wish I could have experienced dining upstairs on either visit; but we have been banned to the basement each time. The food is excellent and the wine list is very good. We had a 7:30pm reservation on Friday Night and the weather was 73 degrees, when we asked if we could be seated outside we were told that the patio had already been closed. Big Disappointment. Our server was very inattentive, it took forever for him to come and initiate our dining experience, and this continued through the night. we saw 4 tables around us celebrate birthdays with a candle in their dessert; we mentioned that we were celebrating a guests birthday as well and did not receive the same treatment. Again disappointing. When we were done it took 20 minutes for him to pick up our credit card for payment, we felt ignored by him. We will return because the food is outstanding, but hopefully we won't have the same server.
