Damas Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I ate here our first night in Montreal and the meal set the bar incredibly high for the rest of our vacation. We did the six course tasting menu and every single dish was absolutely amazing. Everything was cooked perfectly and the flavors were spot on. Service was spectacular from everyone working there, and our server Vito went above and beyond to make the whole experience memorable. It was truly one of the best meals we have ever had!
The food and service were impeccable. The only down side is the tasting menu had way too much food. It took away from the experience. The food was delicious and tasty and creative but the quantity was overwhelming. I still recommend going to this restaurant. Service was superb.
My wife and I have been hearing such good things about Damas for quite some time so a couple of weeks ago we decided to try it out. We were pleasingly surprised and the experience exceeded all our expectations. The food was excellent and the service was spectacular. So much so, that we recommended this place to every single one of our friends and family members.
So this week we decided to go again. Much to our surprise, the experience was very different and very disappointing. First off, we were seated near the kitchen which was so noisy and chaotic - people nearly knocked over our drinks every time they would pass by.
We asked for the vegetarian tasting menu (which we had the first time) and it was not close to comparable. The portions we were served were tiny without mentioning that we weren't even served fish. So we basically paid a $200 dinner to eat vegetables in all forms. We even made sure to make that known to the manager and we were told that if ever we were hungry after the dinner was over, he would send some more food over. When we are charged $75 for a tasting menu, we expect to at least have some sort of protein substitute for the meat that we can't eat.
All in all, we were extremely disappointed in the overall experience because yes, the food is remarkable but being made fun of with a tasting menu that could barely feed one person was a shame.
I rarely write negative comments on a restaurant. However Damas did fail our expectations since we were referred by a close friend who has been here before and said this is a must-go restaurant. The food was great, and we enjoyed the variety of dishes and the decor. Overall, this is supposed to be an pleasant culinary experience.
Regardless, the service we had was almost by far the most awful service I had over last few years. The waiter firstly introduced the wine choices. We had a wine guru friend, and he picked one bottle of red wine but it was not the one the waiter recommended. Apparently this upset him as the price was lower. And this is the beginning of the nightmare. He rushed us to order and misled us to add one more dish after we have ordered four cold mezzes, one hot mezze and two lamb dishes for three persons. We ended up with barely touching the last lamb shoulder dish and having to do the take-away. After we ordered, he never showed up until the last dish and served the wine only once at the end of our dinner.
I guess we could talk to the manager at our dinner to resolve the issue. We left this fine restaurant with an extremely unpleasant experience and definitely won’t come back again.
Damas is a culinary gem. The End.
As the review requires 50 words, happy to add that
the apricot gimlet cocktail was an ideal way to begin the feast.
The wine specialist delivers his expertise in an engaging and delightful way.
Thanks to also delightful Sarah, who helped us navigate the menu, and led us to pure enjoyment of a tasty and healthy culinary experience.
We did have left-overs to savor the next day:)
It was our first visit; we look forward to the next time!
This was our 1st experience dining at Damas and quite exceptional. We started with a variety of the cold and warm mezzes(appetizers) which were all sensational. Complex flavours, savoury and unforgettable. The best kibbe tartar imaginable and the lamb filled dumplings with yoghurt and coriander was simply an amazing sensory treat. Our party if 4 shared 2 lamb dishes offered from the house specialties-just sumptuous. The wait staff were friendly, helpful and not over bearing. The sommelier rounded off our meal with the perfect pairing. We’ll definitely be repeat customers.
Top 3-5 dinners we have ever had -world wide. Sit at the counter, go with the tasting menu and pace yourself. Completely amazing experience. Vivian, our server was so personable with so much passion for the way the food was meticulously prepared and explained each dish as if she created it.
The food in this restaurant is absolutely phenomenal. From appetizers to entries it is top notch. Service is impeccable. I really do not understand why would anyone not like it here. I recommend lamb frikka - it is the best lamb I ever had in my life, and even better then the one I had in Turkey.
There are so many great restaurants in Montreal... the bar is set very high for me to want to add a new favourite. Damas is a new favourite.
We ordered the tasting menu, and although it was a tad pricey... we loved the choice of dishes... the tastes... and felt we got good value. Even had a delicious doggy bag of leftovers to eat the next day.
We will be back!
Simply one of the best dining experience I had in my last 20 years in Montreal !!
The food is amazing and the dishes perfectly executed, the ambiance and decoration make you feel as if you were dining in the Middle-East (a warmth you particularily enjoy in Montreal's winter), and the service is on point. Well worth the price, well worth the drive. Try Damas and you won't be disapointed. I actually cannot wait to go back again ;) Enjoy !!
