Had 6:00 reservation sat down immediately. Food was great!!!!
Amazing evening at Da Marino! Prefect primer for a show and we came back after for dessert!! This is our new “must go to” when in the theater district. Can’t say enough good things about the food, staff and atmosphere! What a find!
Tom and the staff were great! Loved our evening there!
We had reservations for 6:45 as we had tickets for a show next door at 8 pm. It was our anniversary. The restaurant was busy. People who walked in were seated before us and we were seated at a table for two but felt like we were dining with the couple next to us as there was only about 6 inches between our tables. We ordered our food right away and told waitress we had theatre tickets. At 7:30 I asked where our food was and I was told it would be another five minutes. At that point I asked for the check for our drinks as I wanted to leave. At 7:37 the host came over with one of our dishes and I told them I didn’t want the good at this point as we would have to eat our dinner in 10 minutes to get to the show and I wanted to enjoy our dinner. We left. They did pay for our glass of wine and beer.
I reserved a table on open table
When I arrived they did not have my reservation
After a little hesitation we were seated
Fairly typical Italian food for NYC. Waitress did not inform us that the burrata salad on arugula was $28.00. We asked if it would serve 4 and she said to order 2 servings. Wow! $56 for an appetizer. It would easily have served 4.
Also no lunch menu on weekend. Did not see this info in Open Table. So you pay dinner prices at 11:45 AM.
Best restaurant I’ve ever been too! Loved everything about it.
Great place food and service was perfect. Staff very friendly.
Sadly we arrived in time for our booking and it was chaotic. I accept that we booked late on open table but there were numerous slots to choose from so I didn’t expect to be kept waiting for 40 mins for a table.
We were not the only ones kept waiting so I don’t know if there was a bigger issue that we were unaware of.
The manager tried his best to seat us but we ended up leaving to eat somewhere else as we didn’t feel confident that we would eat any time soon even if we did finally get a table
I understand Saturday nights are busy and stressful but a little more customer service and hospitality would have gone a long way!
It was a shame we didn’t have a better experience a the food looked amazing and the venue was beautiful.
I went to this restaurant in 2015. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to go back. Did not disappoint. My sister and I spent a weekend in NYC. I wanted to take her there. Was crowded walking in but everyone friendly. Tom was engaging and the wait staff were all amazing. Love the ambience in this restaurant! Great dinner and to die for cheesecake (on the expensive side but worth it!) The piano player added to a great evening as well. Highly recommend
Long wait despite reservation. Very touristy atmosphere. Food quality was average at best. Wait staff was excellent and did their best to get us out in time for our show since we were seated 35 minutes after our reserved time. Not really sure how this restaurant has so many positive reviews. Other diners (who did not have reservations) said they were told they’d have a 10 minute wait for a table when in actuality they waited an hour. If you have theater tickets (especially on a Fri or Sat night) we would advise arriving at least two hours in advance.
We got to the restaurant at 5:30 for a 6pm reservation. It was chaotic! People were at the bar and lined up next to the bar waiting for tables. I could barely make my way up to the manager to check in. At 6:10, we left to get dinner somewhere else because there were still people waiting for their 5:30 reservation.
I know Saturday nights are crazy, but this is the EXACT reason you make a reservation. We didn't know whether we would get seated and be able to eat dinner before our show, so we opted to try to get in somewhere else for dinner. I would NOT go back.
Don’t book this place. Even on Open table. We had a reservation for 6:00 before a show. And got there at 5:50. When we got there inside it was super crowded with people waiting for tables at 5:30 and 5:45. The host seating people( a guy) was rude and acted like he needed anxiety meds, he didn’t know what to do as people weren’t leaving their tables after they had finished eating so he had no place to seat people. This was the second time I booked a reservation and had to leave because I would miss my show. This restaurant needs to move people in and out and develop a policy for booking( perhaps 2 hr intervals). Open table needs to be advised that the restaurant overlooks. I’m done with this place. Unless you come and eat at 4:00 or after a show you’re not going to get in and get served in time for an 8;00 performance.. which in my case was right across the street. We waited and left at 6:15.... and the 5:30 people were still waiting to be seated. ridiculous!
Met my wife in NYC for a quick 3 day trip while she was in a business trip. We ended up eating here two nights! Food was amazing, staff was amazing and piano players( 2 of them) were amazing. What a great experience. Will definitely visit again! Delicious!!
Burrata mozzarella and tomato, very delicious, but overpriced. Lasagna good, but not good enough for
the price, sent the bolognese was sent back, something foreign was found in it. The couple of bites I had
was fine but not worth it, too expensive. Piano was so so. Should play different music. He played dopey songs for the place. Service was fine and did what they had to.
Overall it was fantastic. Came to celebrate my daughters 10th birthday and the service was incredible. They really made her feel special.
What a hidden gem, great food, fantastic atmosphere, excellent service. Over for the marathon so looking for great pasta and place to eat would highly recommend. The manager really looks after his customers and even when under pressure and running a little behind the complement Prosecco was a nice touch while we waited. Good humour, music on the piano what’s not to love about this place.
Amazing place with even better food! Highly recommend the Osso Bucco & Chicken Francaise - they were both outstanding! Tom - the GM was a wonderful host and exceptionally helpful with making a reservation. Will definitely go back.
This restaurant had really nice service but the wait was long, the food was not the greatest and the price was high. Overall we had a good time and the waiter even gave us Prosecco on the house for the long wait so the service was probably the best part about this restaurant.
Place was packed when we arrived, we were seated immediately. Our server was excellent and extremely knowledgeable of specials and menu items. They had a Pinot Noir special which was a great buy and excellent choice. Dinner was spectacular. This was our first time at DaMarino but will definitely come back
Although we had a very nice waiter that did a good job, the rest of our experience was terrible. My father and husband ordered the pasta with clam sauce which was gummy and had no flavor. My dad sent his back. My dish was rigatoni with spinach and chicken which had the smallest amount of chicken possible. I asked for more chicken, which they did, but the dish was sub par. Then we ordered one piece of cheesecake to celebrate my mom and daughters birthday which we didn’t know was $16.95 and again, not very good. And after waiting over 15 minutes for our coffees and cappuccinos, we were asked by the host to leave because they needed the table. After spending over $550 on an underrated restaurant, they had to nerve to ask us to move it along for the next group. The shame is, most people in the theater district will go there because of the proximity to the shows, but save your money. Grab a slice of pizza somewhere. You will be better off.
Fantastic food! Great atmosphere! Legit place for a romantic date.
Fabulous overall. 4 stars only because it was crowded. Seated immediately so reservation worked beautifully. Claudio, our server is terrific, and his assistant Diana is wonderful too. Live music - a piano player who also sings. Will return.
The food and the table service was fantastic! But thanks to overbooking (OpenTable's issue, according to Tom, the manager??), reservations are a guideline at best. So make your reservation, but be prepared, on a weekend, to wait an hour over your scheduled time. Again, fantastic food and table service, once you are seated! Oh, and the bartender lady deserves major kudos for serving the bar, the restaurant, and all the people who are unhappy about the wait!
Best meal I’ve ever had!! Food was incredible, drinks flowed all night and you’ll never find a better waite staff! Dine here and you will see why they are #1....
I have dined at Da Marino a half dozen times and generally have enjoyed the experience. But I doubt I will ever return. When I arrived for a 6:30 reservation, a throng of patrons were lined up three deep at the bar. Fighting my way to the maitre d, I was dismayed to learn they all were waiting for THEIR reservations. There were at least 15 names ahead of mine. I asked how they could seat and serve us all in time for an 8:00 curtain. I was told to wait, but there was no room other than to stand in the dining room, hovering over seated diners. The wait staff couldn’t navigate, so service was slow. I fought my way back to the maitre d to explain we would be leaving. No explanation or apology. Unacceptable.
I’m not sure why this place takes reservations. They were so overbooked, there were at least 8-10 parties waiting at the bar for their tables, 15-30 minutes after their reservation time, which is how long we lasted before we left. They told party after party as they checked in to “get a drink at the bar and they’d get their table ASAP, but they were running a bit behind”... literally (5) 6pm reservations in a row. This is a prime pre-theater dining spot, so you’d think they’d be more thoughtful about getting people in and out in a timely manner.
If you have plenty of time, the prices are decent for the area, and the food looked and smelled fantastic. And the vibe is quintessential theater district.. live piano music, crowded, energetic... BUT, if you’re trying to make it to a show, I do NOT recommend! You’re going to be wolfing down your food, if you ever get seated. (And from what I’ve read in other reviews, if you book an earlier reservation, they rush you out)
We would recommend not trying to do this restaurant before a show. The host was trying very hard to get all seated, however, we waited a full hour for our reserved table. Everyone else was in the same boat. The host seemed to really be doing his best but somehow they were very overbooked. We were seated for 30 minutes really rushing through what should have been a fun experience. We were told Open Table is overbooking this place, which is very small. Our first night in NYC was just not enjoyable due to this stress. We were 5 minutes early for our reservation. Just don't risk it, go somewhere else for a pre show dinner.
Our waiter was sooo amazing. I think his name was Vadim and we LOVED him!!! The only reason I knocked a star off was because of the bartender at the front.
Never miss DaMarino when visiting NYC; solid in every way. Dennis on the piano is always great, the food is flavorful and a huge variety on the menu. The atmosphere is great too with exposed brick and a quaint feel. Don't miss!
Food was bad tasty, the only good thing that has there is the very talented pianist girl
Always an amazing meal at DaMarino!
Da Marino NYC is simply amazing! Not only is the food unbelievable, in addition the atmosphere is just perfect. This is the ultimate New York dining experience!
This is my first negative review of a restaurant. I made reservations weeks in advance. My daughter came to the city and I wanted it to be a very special evening with a terrific dinner before heading to a Broadway show. When we arrived at the restaurant there was a line of more than 30 people waiting for their tables. Many with reservations forty five minutes before ours. We were all told by an obnoxious host that “someone” had accepted way too many reservations for a 75 seat place. When I gave him my name and reservation time he asked “when did you make this?”, when I told him it was weeks ago, he responded with the same excuse and added my name to the bottom of a long list.
Trust me...DO NOT go to this restaurant as part of a larger evening. They certainly don’t seem to care about any reservation...I am not sure why they even take them!
We were stuck without an alternative 90 minutes before the show started.
I would suggest that Open Table drop this restaurant...
Open Table overbooked the restaurant by more than 2x. We waited 45 minutes to be seated. Unacceptable
We stood in the very crowded area behind the bar along with others waiting for their 6:00pm reservations. Literally people were smashed against my body, no place for them to go. It was miserable. Everyone seemed to have a 6:00 reservation before a show. I get that they are busy but how about taking less reservations when you know you don't have a waiting area. We left along with 4 other parties at the same time and all of us went next door to Savino's. Everyone was angry, including the Maitre. Very disappointing!
Very disappointed in the fact that 6pm was overbooked
We sat 20 minutes after our reservation time but others were seated more than an hour
Manager said open table hAs too many seats for the restaurant like 160 instead of 75
We go to numerous restaurants and never saw this before for reservations in the theatre district
Regardless of food and service
We will not return
Very very sad
Never, ever, ever try to eat here before a show. (Or pre-show time even if you aren’t going to a show). Rating based solely on the fact that we had 5:45 reservations and at 6:40 we left and found somewhere else to eat to ensure we could make an 8pm show, as there were still two couples ahead of us to be seated. Manager indicated they can seat 75 and Opentable continues to allow 150 to book so they can get $. Who knows the real story,my biggest complaint is that he assured us repeatedly we would get seated in time to make an 8pm show. If he had been truthful we would have left sooner, saved ourselves the aggravation, and still has a nice dinner vs a quick bite. Other restaurants have figured this out, there are many better ways this could been handled including honesty, calling us to cancel, or remove themselves from Opentable if they can’t make it work.
In a recent visit to NY, this restaurant was recommended by our hotel so we booked through the open table app. When we arrived we were told open table overbooked and we would have to wait. It was small inside, very noisy and when seated we were put in a very corner table with little room to even move a chair. The food was very expensive for mediocre Italian food.
