As always, the service, food, and entire experience was 5 stars. We needed to be somewhere quickly and they got is in, seated, and fed within an hour. Thank you so much! I’ll be back on the 21st.
The only downside was the wait time. We had reservations for 5:15 and wasn’t seated till 6.
Food and service was amazing.
Had a 5:15 reservation. At 6:05 we were still not seated and were standing in a crowded aisle being jostled by wait staff, bartenders, bus boys, host, manger and other patrons. Had to leave by 6:45 to make our show so we bailed. Very disappointed.
Great food and service. Awesome live piano music. Very busy, small and tight space. Seated about 30 minutes after reservation time. Make sure you check in with host upon arrival after booking reservation on line. Very pleased with choice. Would recommend.
We made a reservation in advance of coming to New York for a special Anniversary dinner followed by a show when we arrived for a 7:30 reservation they told us that it would be at least one hour wait I told them that we had to be at the show for 9:00 p.m. They were so busy I felt very claustrophobic very small restaurant. The fact that we were not going to make the show forced us to look for another restaurant. I would not recommend this restaurant no matter how good their food is because New York is full of restaurants.
Booked reservation for anniversary dinner, and when we arrived they said there was over an hour wait. Had to try and make other last-minute arrangements.
We made a reservation, got there 5 minutes early, and once we made it through the crush of people trying to get in, were told there would be a wait. When we asked how long of a wait, we were told that they “didn’t really know. Could be 20 minutes, half an hour...” We made a reservation to avoid a wait. 5-10 minutes would have been tolerable; “I don’t know” is not. We had theatre tickets so had to leave and find dinner elsewhere, not an easy feat on a Friday night in the theatre district. Terrible way to treat repeat customers.
First the restaurant is mobbed, the entrance is at the bar and difficult to maneuver. The owner complained that open table over booked him, he had no tables when reservation made ( this was an early 5pm reservation). He acted as he was doing us a favor placing us in an alley area walled off from the restaurant looking at storage. Food was good, service seemed to be overflow as well as we had 4 different wait staff during the meal. Call the restaurant directly to dine there, maybe you will have the proper experience.
We returned to eat at Da Marino after finding the restaurant last year. We couldn’t wait to go back on our next visit. The Italian food is the real thing. The chief specials never disappoint. Our server was John, who was very attentive.
Check in before theater times chaotic. All worked out. Very crowded ... holiday time.
Food was good and service provided by waiter was quick and easy. Problem was getting a table. Even with a reservation, it took 30 minutes to get seated with the host continually asking for “just another minute” of waiting, even though there were open tables available. At no time did I or any of the other guests standing in the cramped space next to the bar waiting for a table get the impression that things were under control. When we did get seated, it was in the back next to a wall that had paint chips peeling off. I don’t think any of that got into the food, though.
I am not a fan of writing reviews however I would want to thank and appreciate the Outstanding services. One of the best services I have experienced. From Tom to the waiting staff to the bartenders. All of them were very nice and courteous. We came to celebrate my spouse wedding. We were surprised with throne chairs and cheesecake towards the end with a song. Generally restaurants places a candle however DaMarino wrote Happy Birthday on the plate with chocolate which was very sweet. Nice live music playing all classical. I highly recommend this restaurant for your celebrations.
My colleague and I chose DaMarino last minute after a long day of travel. We started with the antipasto, which was excellent. Fresh cuts of meat and cheese paired well together. Our entrees were outstanding. I had the Osso Bucco which was falling off the bone and tender as I’ve ever had. The risotto was tasty and tender as well. My colleague had the Chicken Francaise which was very well seasoned and surprisingly juicy. Our server did a great job taking care of u even though there was a very rowdy group of guest holding a celebration right behind our table. Not a big deal considering the holiday season. I’ll definitely be back.
The restaurant manager(or whatever he was) was horrible. We had 5;15 reservations which I’d had for a couple of weeks. Upon arrival, he proceeded to tell me that we would have to be out of there by 6:30 because he had a large party coming in. I told him that would be up to him and his service. He rushed us throughout the entire meal and even urged his waitress to rush us. It was totally disrespectful and made our experience less than charming.
Mother and daughter trip! Wonderful service and food. Great portions. Great service. Very nice live piano music. We had great company too with other guests around us! Fair price.
Great food and very helpful staff, would definitely recommend and revisit 👌
Way too noisy and crowded. No place to wait for reservation, which was not kept. Food quality looked mediocre, at best. Would not go back.
We had reservations at 6:00 and were seated about 6:45. Theatre tickets for 8:00. Tom explained that they were running behind but guaranteed we would make our play. He was right. The restaurant was exceedingly crowded, the noise level high but all were having a good time. We were a family of 5 and 3 meals were very good, 2 meals were just OK. Location was excellent. I would go again. Ambiance good.
Don’t trust open table reservations at this place. We were between broadway shows and made a 5:30 reservation. The host told us that we should not have made an open table reservation because “they over book him.” And told us he would do us a favor by honoring our reservation, but it would take a while. 45 minutes later, after hearing him tell this same story and turn people away a dozen times, we finally decided to eat at the bar because we had to get back to a show and we were lucky to get bar seats. They have no idea how to use open table to manage capacity. It’s insanely crowded and loud. And we paid over $200 for 3 people to eat at a crowded bar with drunk patrons right by the front door and bathroom. If you try to waste your time here, make a direct reservation. The bar tender who served us was great and was working her butt off. But the place is very full of itself and considers you lucky to get in with our without a reservation. Food was good, but not remarkable.
Too crowded and unorganized . Too many people.. seems like violation of fire codes
They overbook and don't honor reservations. What's worse, is how people are literally squeezed waiting in a narrow barroom. We left when we realized the sham and ate at the Palm, which was one of the best meals i've ever had.
Worst experience ever. Made our reservation 4 months ago for our trip from florida over thanksgiving weekend. Our reservation was for 6 pm and we were catching a show after. We got there and there was a huge crowd - we couldn’t even find our way to the check in desk. We heard people arguing with the host/manager how they had reservations too and the restaurant overbooked and didn’t honor these reservations. It was a fire hazard with all these people - and they didn’t have a table for us! We told the manager it was wrong and he didn’t care. He didn’t apologize or try to accommodate us. We left and went next door to Serafina - they were accommodating and helped us get in and out so we could make our show.
DaMarino was truly disappointing.
This is the SECOND time that the restaurant overbooked their weekend dinner seatings and then blamed it on open table! We were kept waiting for an hour past our reservation time. There was no where to stand- it was a complete fire hazard. MANY angry overbooked customers were yelling st the manager and storming out. After free Prosecco was handed out to calm everyone down, we EVENTUALLY got seated, but only had time for an appetizer and main course since we were now an HOUR behind our scheduled reservation and had to leave for the Theatre. While the food is good, the atmosphere is cramped and hostile- I would NOT go a third time.
We had reservations and were seated 45 minutes late, while being told several times only waiting for a couple more tables to clear (but never an estimated time). Table was first one on the right on the way in, just after the bar and up against the piano. We had to move the table forward/then back to get to the back chair. Table was on the main walk way in/out and out. Seat with back against walkway was constantly being bumped.
Exceptional food and service. We frequent often and they never disappoint. Best chicken parm ever!
They were not very accommodating. We waited for 45 minutes for a table of 3 and we had a reservation. Very tight squeeze so no real standing room. Being seated was absolutely awful. I asked for a different sauce for my chicken parm and it wasn’t possible to switch which made me think it wasn’t fresh. The food wasn’t very good.
I made this reservation a month ago I received several reminders to make sure we were there by 5:00 We all arrived on time but weren't seated until 5:30 We had show tickets and we understood that it takes time to serve 15 people. I was disappointed that they didn't honor the reservation. We felt rushed.
The food was good and I would try it again.
Superb pasta with vongole, good chianti, excellent welcome & service, first rate ambiance, with piano & vocal music. Very far from cheap ... price of a salad, for example, extortionate. But we had a lovely evening.
Great meal. Awesome service. Go when the piano player is there, he’s the best!
The food was very good but we were mislead about portion size, being told that the main course pasta we chose was a light meal, which it was not - it was quite large. That plus a starter for one that was too big for two made it a waste of food that we couldn't eat, which was even more of a shame because it was absolutely delicious. Another negative; we said we had to be at a show at a certain time and were still waiting for the main course about 15 minutes before we had to leave, until we asked where our meals were and they had to hurry them up for us.
It was my second visit to DaMarino and another wonderful experience. Great food, service and ambiance. Love this place.
They would not seat us. There were people there waiting for their reservations from an hour prior. The host was speaking poorly of Open Table. It was noisy and super crowded. We had to leave or we would have been late for the show we were going to see that evening. We went to Bocca di Bacco on 9th Ave and it was fantastic!
My husband and I were in New York for the weekend. I booked DiMarios for dinner before the 8pm Hadestown play. We had reservations for 6:15. We walked in at 6:10 and they couldn’t find our reservation anywhere. Showed them our reservation on my phone and were told that open table had overbooked them and messed them up. We were seated after about 30 mins and ordered immediately. Everyone was very nice and trying their best. Food was good. It was a very crowded and rushed dinner. But, it’s New York, so I guess that’s just how it goes! We made it out in time for our show. I will definitely call the restaurant next for reservations and not use Open Table.
Really great restaurant. Gets chaotic when busy but overall a great place
They sat us over 50 minutes after our reservation. Raced through 3 bites of dinner to make theater time.
Will tell everyone to avoid this restaurant.
I booked this restaurant approx a week before our booked date via open table after finding this place on trip advisor. I looked at venues close to the theatre area and found most were booked at that time of the evening. I came across this restaurant and thought we had struck gold with availability and with it so close to the theatre. I arrived 15 minutes before the booked time and I was told there was a couple before us waiting to be sat and we would be seated very soon. As we waited, lots more couples & groups came in to the narrow bar area and I soon realised that there were far too many people to meet the number of tables. We were lucky and managed to get seated 30 minutes after our booking time, albeit in a corridor area which in any other circumstances I would of refused to sit in, but given it was so close to the start of the theatre time I thought, let’s just get some food and get out of this place. as others stood next to us waiting had no choice but to leave and they would not of had enough time to eat and make the theatre. It was crazy in the place, hardly space to move and people were stood waiting watching over others eating. The food was of moderate quality and the waiting staff efficient. We ordered a starter and main each. The waiter turned up with my partners starter and I assume mine would follow, but they returned a few minutes later with two main meals. I informed them that I hadn’t received my starter of Mussels and sent the waitress back. Her waiter colleague returned 1 minute later with my main again and said there was no time to remake the main course & he again said they would bring the starter as soon as they could. I told him not to bother with the starter and ate the main to ensure we made the opening scene of our play. As I have said, the food was average,
If seems to me that they over-book and see what they can get away with. This isn’t a place I could recommend, especially at 5-30 to 6:30.
The food was definitely worth the wait on a busy Saturday night! They made sure we got seated and fed before our show. Marci was great on piano and kept the crowd singing along!
We had a pre-theater dinner reservation and when we showed up at 5:55 the line of people waiting was extremely long. The host was not nice at all and we ended up having to leave if we wanted to eat before our show.
Very nasty host!!!!
Vadim was awesome waiter food excellent can't wait to go Back!!
