Was exicted to visit this place, but we had the rudest waitress and was placed in what has to be the worst seating in the place. We had reservations and a party of 6. We were the first people to go in when they opened at 11:30 yesterday. There were many options to sit us but we were stuck in a little corner next to a broken out front wall next to plastic in the front and it was freezing. My daughter wanted a salad and asked the waitress what was in it and she said I dont know and we have a different chief... and literally mumbled most the time like she had no clue and was VERY reluctant to help. She has food allergies. The waitress looked like she hated being there and I watched her snarling most the time rolling her eyes etc... WTF. The food was ok.. I've had many better meals of this type of food.
Tom & his staff are AMAZING! Ask for the Sea Bass special, it was outstanding. Tom obviously mostly there for dinner except Monday & Tuesday nights. It would be a shame if you didn't visit
It's almost unfair to rate this place at all, since we never even made it inside to eat, but the vibe and first impressions were so incredibly negative and oppressive, that I feel obligated to say something. We arrived at the restaurant, with a dinner reservation, on a Saturday night, about 10 minutes early. I was told that our table wouldn't be ready until 6pm and were invited to sit at the bar. We opted not to and you have no idea how glad we are that we didn't. By the time we returned, their teeny tiny bar was SO EXTREMELY CROWDED, that we literally had to fight our way through to check in with the host. This time, he said that our table would be ready in a few minutes. We waited for 10 minutes, ducking waiters, watching the manager negotiate with an irate customer who wanted a "very specific" table, and staring at the host who was as friendly and approachable as a piece of toast. The energy in the room was so loud and frenetic, that I couldn't imagine any semblance of an enjoyable dining experience. Indeed, the more we waited, the more we wanted to leave. Not pleasant. Maybe the food is good, but I'll never go back. No way, no how.
We are probably the easiest going folks you could meet, so when I say this place was
Awful, it truly was. The waitress was nice, however the salad was taken away while I was still eating it, our main courses looked like someone dropped them and scooped them back up onto the plate, we were sitting in the laps of the people next to us. Overcrowded is an understatement even for NYC. I’ve eaten in so many restaurants over the last 5 decades in the city and have never seen anything like this. The maitre’d clearly wanted to get you out of there ASAP and so he did because we ran out of there and will NEVER go back!!! Yikes!!!
So many other places to enjoy in this wonderful city, but go see for yourself if ya like!! Good luck!
Stephanie was our server and she was awesome! Extremely knowledgeable about the menu and we both ordered their signature Godiva pasta in which she recommended. It was delicious. However, after Stephanie told us about the menu options we never saw her again. We had about 3 different servers which was fine, they were all great (or so i thought, you have a thief working for you) Just a bit confusing when you need to get a drink or place an order. Place was also homey inside, although tiny it was comfortable and the live piano and singer was a good touch.
What made me want to leave a ONE STAR on this restaurant was the fact that I left a tip amount on my card (as me and my friend split the bill). I just happened to look at my bank statement this morning and I guess Da Marino’s transaction just processed (we ate there Sunday night) and they changed the gratuity I left to $5 more! This isn’t about $5. It’s about the principle. That is STEALING. Stealing from paying customers who ate at your establishment. Needless to say, I will be calling shortly, that is unacceptable.
Outstanding. Great food, service and ambience.
And the piano and singing were amazing.
I would recommend DaMarino's. The food was delicious and the staff was terrific.
DON’T GO. Open Table should discontinue letting them be on its platform. Reservations for 6:15 and was told it would be 15 minutes. At 6:45 asked the status and they said 15 minutes again. Had a show at 8 so left. Save your money and go down the street.
The restaurant had an old-world feel to it. You feel like you’re in Italy not in the center of Manhattan. We had a 5:30 reservation but arrived early after seeing a broadway play and Tommy accommodated us by seating us immediately. Everything we ordered was delicious and the portions were filling. I will definitely come back again and recommend Da Marino to everyone I know looking to eat in the city!
Wonderful! Came for my Wife’s birthday and they sang with a delicious cheesecake. Very nice touch! Thank you!!!
Ambiance is quaint and Tuscan like in a indoor setting feeling like you are outdoors at night in Italy. Live pianist is a very nice touch. Table seating is tight and almost two small for our glasses and plates. Good food, very friendly staff. We will definitely visit again in the future!
I'd recommend it only for the pre-theatre goer. The food is fine, but the wine list is expensive and the house wines very limited. Also the seating is very tight.
Incredible food and atmosphere. Our waitress was very attentive, and Tom, the manager, was great. We felt like family. We can’t wait to come back
Food was very good. The burrata was exceptional.
The service was very good. The food was mediocre and pricey. If the food had been top notch I would not mind paying that price.
The food was excellent as always. The bread service was some of the best tasting bread we have had. The atmosphere and service was excellent. We make Da Marino a must stop for dinner every time we visit New York, for business and pleasure.
What a hot mess. Arrived 15 mins early for dinner reservation. Had to wait an hour to get seated. We ordered the second we sat down. Waited 45 mins for food to arrive. Had to have them box it up so that we could get to our show on time.
Can’t actually review a meal. Arrived @5:50 for a 6 pm reservation made the day before. Place was jammed. Took at least 5 minutes to squeeze through bar and find host who blamed open table for overbooking, directed us to jammed bar and pleaded patience. Had 8 pm theater tickets. Eventually managed to get a couple of pricy drinks but mob scene continued to overwhelm host. At 6:40, with host indicating we weren’t even close to head of line, we left to grab a burger at a nearby bar. Never before encountered anything close to this with open table reservations, but don’t think we missed much. Seemed like a theater district tourist trap.
I could not truly rate DaMarino as the restaurant overbooked the evening, so we had to leave as we had tickets for a show. I had looked forward to eating at the restaurant, but it was so overcrowded. Why accept reservations when you cannot possibly accommodate them?
Completely overpriced. It’s standard Italian food and it’s just ok. Wait staff pleasant and attentive. Doubt whether it meets fire code standards - a little scary from that point of view.
Fabulous! Food was outstanding BUT it was the personal touches of the manager Tom and the staff that made this a wonderful experience! It was my daughter’s 18th birthday celebration and Tom sang accompanied by the pianist! The decor gives you a feeling of being swept away. Highly recommend and we will be back!
Lunch time was quiet. Cute place. Service was very good. Great wine pour and had the chocolate pasta with shrimp! Would definitely recommend and would definitely go back!
Food was out of this world. We had a reservation at 7.30 but our table wasn’t ready until about 8. We didn’t mind though, we waited at the bar. Food was definitely worth the wait.
I would stay away from booking before or right after Theater times. We had 7:00 reservations and were seated at 7:45. Just due to the lingering of the folks that were eating prior to their respective shows. Saw a couple famous people there, that I wont mention, so who knows who you will run into. Definitely a local place. Service is excellent. Food is excellent.
We waited 50 minutes even though we had a reservation at 6. The manager was very nice and expedited the delivery of our food. We still felt very rushed because we had a theatre tickets fo 8:00 and wanted to get there with plenty of time.
Please do not eat at DaMarino. We arrived early for a six o’clock reservation. We we’re trying to eat before a play. We were not seated by 6:30. We were disrespected by the staff. They did not let us know that we would not be seated. They made no eye contact. Overall a strange restaurant with a creepy vibe. I would never recommend this restaurant. We left and walked into a restaurant next door called The Harrison We had a great meal and made the play on time. Do not eat at Da Marino.
The restaurant was busy/ crowded on a Saturday evening, however the service was outstanding, the food was excellent and we never felt rushed. Would definitely recommend DaMarino, and will return on my next visit to NYC!
It was Valentine’s Day. We had reservations for 8:45pm. We arrived at 8:30 to find a line of people 30 deep who had reservations but were still waiting to be seated. There was one couple we spoke to who had been waiting for 45 minutes. We left. On such a special night you would think they would be able to book tables correctly and have the organization to be able to manage the flow of people. Very disappointed.
